The Alternative Film Festival is a quarterly event that is committed to bringing filmmakers of all levels - even beginners - a chance at taking home a festival award. We are an IMDb eligible festival meaning filmmakers will be able to post their nominations and wins on their IMDb profiles.

We are the ALTERNATIVE FILM FESTIVAL - we are not your typical film awards! Our quarterly event is different - it is an awards event where we will be announcing the Winners of each of the many categories within Feature Films, Short Films and Super Short Films. WE SCREEN THE 6 BEST FILM FINALISTS FOR EACH QUARTER AT OUR QUARTERLY EVENT. All other Finalists (in many different categories) are in the running to win our IMDb-eligible awards.

Each category (feature, short and super short) will have the following awards available per quarter (Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter) all of which are IMDb eligible:

BEST POSTER - photography contest

BEST FILM - the quarterly winners will also be interviewed and their film promo posted on our website. They will also receive the Best Film Trophy!

AUDIENCE CHOICE AWARD - voted by the live screening audience (small gathering, invite-only, private free show - we dont charge admission)

More categories are added depending on the types of entries we receive!!!

Printable PDF certificates will be emailed to all winners.

AltFF accepts narrative, documentary, animation and experimental films.
Entry fees are non-refundable.
All films must be in English or have English subtitles.
No limit on number of submissions or production date.
All films must have an online screener.
Filmmakers retain the rights to their films.
Filmmakers are responsible for acquiring copyrights, licenses and releases for media used in their films.
Judges' decisions are final.

Submission categories are as follows:
Feature Films (40 minutes and over)
Short Films (5 to 40 minutes)
Super Short Films (1 to 5 minutes)
Posters (photography contest)

By submitting their film, filmmakers gives ALTFF the right to post their posters, trailers, website and social media links on our website.
