The Festival Internacional de Cine de León FICL, invites all filmmakers to participate in the Official Call for FICL 2023 from April 15 to July 15 of this year and can apply with feature films, short films and short documentary fiction, non-fiction or animation to be part of the Ninth consecutive edition to be held between 01 to 05 November of this year. Those selected may be part of the three competitive sections of the festival: International Talent, Local Talent and University Talent.
COMPETITIVE SECTIONS
International Talent
For the International Talent section, directors of Mexican or mixed nationality residing abroad and directors of non-Mexican nationality residing in Mexico or abroad may participate.
Local Talent
For the Local Talent section, directors of Mexican nationality residing and/or coming from the state of Guanajuato may participate,
The material to participate must have been filmed in the state of Guanajuato, or otherwise, contain 70% of the material filmed on location in at least one municipality in the state of Guanajuato.
University Talent
Filmmakers enrolled in any university in the 32 states of the Mexican Republic may participate, proving their validity with an official identification from the school of origin.
*Only one film material per person will be received, i.e., a person may enter his or her material in only one category of the festival, whatever it may be.
Duration
Feature Film No less than 70 minutes and no more than 120 minutes (including credits).
Documentary Short no shorter than 10 minutes and no longer than 20 minutes (including credits).
Short film no shorter than 2 minutes and no longer than 15 minutes (including credits).
No teasers, trailers and/or video clips will be accepted.
Genre, Thematic and Classification
Material of any film genre will be admitted, including docu-fiction for the Short Documentary category and animation for any of the other categories.
The subject matter is free in nature.
Only A, AA and B15 rated material will be admitted.
No material containing political propaganda or propaganda of political and social movements will be admitted.
In the case of animation, the material must include at least one Mexican talent in the three parts of the production if participating in the International Talent category.
Language and Subtitles
Material from any language, dialect or tongue will be accepted, as long as English and Spanish subtitles are provided.
Subtitles must be submitted with the material in SRT or WebVTT format.
For material with foreign language (non-Spanish) audio, English and Spanish subtitles are required.
For material with Spanish audio, English subtitles are required.
Format
Any film format is eligible as long as it is larger than 1080p (Full HD).
Material shot with professional and/or semi-professional cameras is eligible.
Material shot with smartphones will not be accepted.
Production Dates
Any material produced or completed after January 01, 2022 will be eligible to participate.
