The Memorable Film Festival is a short films festival dedicated to showing and promoting the creation and dissemination of short films about Alzheimer's disease and its effects on patients and families, as well as its social interest.

The festival is organized by the CIEN Foundation, the Alzheimer Centre of the Queen Sofia Foundation.

First Prize: “Neuronita de oro” and € 2,000. It will screen a showing of the winning short film in a shorts session at FICAL (The Almería International Film Festival)

Second Prize: “Neuronita de plata” and € 1,500

Third prize: “Neuronita de bronce” and € 750

Memorables Film Festival 2024 (short films about Alzheimer's disease) announces the rules and regulations for its 6ª edition

1. The Festival
The "Memorables Film Festival" is a film festival and competition dedicated to showcase and promote the creation and dissemination of short films about Alzheimer's disease and its effects on patients and their families, as well as its social interest.

The "Memorables Film Festival" is organised by the CIEN Foundation (Centre for Research on Neurological Diseases), Queen Sofia Foundation Alzheimer Centre.
The CIEN Foundation presents the "Memorables Film Festival" as a film festival with the purpose of giving visibility to Alzheimer's disease and how it affects different aspects of our lives. Also, the short film contest will help to promote the creation and creativity of audiovisual content that add value to the dissemination of Alzheimer's disease.
Within the Spanish cultural and audiovisual framework, there are two other festivals that deal in some way with issues related to the brain. From the perspective of the "Memorables Film Festival", the aim will be to bring human value to Alzheimer's disease. The purpose will be to show how it affects people who live with, suffer from or know the effects of Alzheimer's and what the emotional impact is, trying to shed light on it in a positive way.

The festival is aimed at anyone interested and resident in Spain. In addition to the official short film competition, there will be different activities around the official theme of the festival, including talks, colloquiums, exhibitions and sessions with experts in the field, as well as family members or people who have directly or indirectly experienced Alzheimer's disease.

2. Participation. Admission criteria.

1. Entry to the "Memorables Film Festival" is free of charge. The genre must be fiction and/or documentary on the subject of Alzheimer's disease in any of its dimensions: the effect on patients' lives, scientific, medical or social aspects.

2. The jury will value the cinematographic quality of the short films, as well as the quality of the message conveyed in relation to the theme (Alzheimer's) and its capacity to raise awareness in society of the problem of this disease.

3. Only one short film per participant will be accepted and the works must be original. The competition reserves the right not to accept short films that do not meet all the requirements or those that do not meet the criteria established by the organisers.

4. The contest is open to Spanish or foreign filmmakers residing in Spain. The works must have been made between 1 September 2023 and 30 September 2024.

5. When submitting the works to the competition, a form must be filled in with the author's details: name and surname, address and contact telephone number, scanned ID card and a brief biographical note (in the text box). A technical and artistic file of the short film must also be provided, listing all the crew involved in the film and their roles.

6. Video or animation works must be created in digital format; with a final file size of maximum 250 MB and a window width of 1024x576 px. In addition, the following minimum technical characteristics: mp4 format, aspect ratio 16:9, video codec H264, audio codec: AAC, video bitrate 1500 kbps and audio bitrate: 96 kbps.

7. In the case of short films with dialogue or voice over, they will be accepted in any of the official languages of Spain, as long as they are subtitled in Spanish.

8. The short films in the official section may not be longer than thirteen minutes (including the opening and closing credits).

9. Each short film will be registered in the name of the natural person who appears on the entry form, who will be the beneficiary of any prize that may be awarded. The organisation assumes that this person owns the rights to the work submitted, and therefore does not assume any responsibility in this respect on the part of the contestants.

10. Depending on the number of works received, there may be a pre-selection of finalists, who will have priority when it comes to screenings during the Festival programme.

3. Programming.
All competing films are subject to the same selection and evaluation criteria.
The programme of the "Memorables Film Festival" will be made up of an official section of short films, which will compete for the first, second and third prizes, including the opening and closing credits.
The organisers will hold the Festival over a sufficient number of days, depending on the number of films to be screened in the official section. In addition, there will be talks and colloquiums and an awards ceremony.

i. First Prize
Memorable Statuette and a prize of 2.000€.
ii. Second Prize
Memorable Statuette and a prize of 1.500€.
iii. Third Prize
Memorable Statuette and a prize of 750€.

5. The programme of the "Memorables Film Festival" will be made up of an official section of short films, which will compete for the first, second and third prizes, including the opening and closing credits.

 The award ceremony of the "Memorables Film Festival" will take place in Madrid, Spain during the month of November 2023.

6. Entry Method
Entries may be submitted

a) Physically: by sending a hard disk in an envelope, stating on it "Memorables Film Festival 2023", and enclosing inside a document with title, technical and artistic specifications, to the following address: c/ Valderrebollo 5, Madrid.

b) Telematically: through the CIEN Foundation website using a form provided for this purpose. The telematic submission will be made through Vimeo with download option and access password, with a WeTransfer/Dropbox, preferably in Full HD quality (1920x1080), or through Festhome.

The deadline for receipt of entries is 15 October 2024, at 23:59.

7. Selection Committee
A rigorous jury made up of: members of the Carlos III Institute of Health, the Queen Sofia Foundation, the CIEN Foundation and CEAFA, as well as professionals from the audiovisual media, actors, neurology experts, psychologists and members of other institutions.

By entering the competition, participants waive any challenge or action against these rules. Furthermore, the contestants also accept the use of their work for promotional purposes of the Festival and the Foundation. The jury's decision will be announced publicly at the awards ceremony during the festival.

The prize-giving ceremony will be held in person or by delegation of the prize-winner. In the event of unexcused absence at the gala and not having delegated the representation, the prize will not be awarded to the winner, and the amount will be added to the following year's prize fund.
