Kat's Backyard Film Fest is one installment of Backyard Shenanigans, an annual summer series of interactive art experiences hosted in a backyard setting that cultivates community & creative connections. This is Backyard Shenanigans' first film festival and the event will open with an open mic.

This project is funded by the BICA Generator Fund.

All genres/forms accepted. Seeking narratives, documentaries, music videos, animation, and experimental works.

Film entries should not exceed 45 minutes.

All submissions must have been completed within the last five years.


The festival has the right to use promotional material from the official selections. Please submit a trailer and/or poster after your film for promotion.

The filmmaker retains ownership rights of their work.

Works using generative AI will not be accepted. If there is AI usage, it must be declared at time of submission and exclusively used as a supporting tool for auxiliary production (such as transcribing, transcoding, automation, audio treatment, etc)

Due to the 50th year anniversary of Buffalo's Juneteenth Festival Celebration, priority will be given to Black Buffalo-based filmmakers. All other filmmakers are encouraged to still apply.
