Axolotl Film Festival of Mexico City with Cactus Films invite Mexican and international filmmakers residing in and outside the country to participate in its second edition to be be held from the 9th to the 13th of November, 2016 in the windows of different shops on the main streets of the Historical Center of Mexico City.

The shop windows are natural screens, generally disregarded, ready to present and recreate our lives and experiences in Mexico City. Commercial establishments are no longer meeting places for citizens and, conversely, are spaces that separate us. We believe that cinema can generate and promote a sense of community among the residents and the visitors of the city.

All participating short film and video need to reference, in their subject matter, characters, settings and/ or storyline, to Mexico City. The short films could have been produced in Mexico City, in other states or abroad.

The winning short film will be awarded a production package from Cactus Films. The package which includes a professional camera with tripod, memory cards and optics, a lighting kit, and a sound kit with mixer, microphones and boom for four days of shooting, to produce a short film in Mexico City.

- The registration of the short films can be made through Festhome.com.

- The authors may be nationals, foreigners residing in Mexico or international filmmakers. Each participant can submit a maximum of two short films.

- Short films do NOT need to be premieres and may have been shown at other festivals or venues.

- The short films can be documentaries, animations, or fictions, we also welcome works of video art, video dance and video installations.

- It is recommended that films and audiovisual works reference any of the following topics:

- The familiar and the strange city
- The city as a database or a museum
- The global and the local city
- The migrant and the fixed city
- The city as a game or as bureaucracy
- The isolated city and the city where we meet
- The old and the modern city
- The city that is a dream or a nightmare
- The city of desire and the conformist city
- The city of work and the city of everyday life
- The show city and the committed city.

- The production date is free, it should only be specified in the data sheet.

- The films need to have a maximum duration of 15 minutes.

- The short films in languages ​​other than Spanish must be subtitled in Spanish.

- All submitted films will go through a selection process, thus the reception of the work does not imply its inclusion in the official program.

- The selection committee will choose participants will consist of prestigious and multi-award-winning filmmakers of Mexican cinema.

- The winning short film will be awarded a production package from Cactus Films. - The short films and audiovisual works can be sent until July 15th, 2016.

- The selected filmmakers will be informed in the last week of August.

The films need to have optimal quality standards in image and sound.

- Also selected authors will need to provide:

a) Two images of the film to be posted on the festival website and festival programs.
b) A synopsis for the festival program.
c) Technical film sheet of the film
d) A short biography of the director with a photograph.
