Now in its seventh year, Chagford Film Festival is going from strength to strength. A unique and vibrant film festival attracting award-winning industry talent from all over the country to its beautiful Dartmoor setting.

*The Festival*

Previous guest speakers have included Jennifer Saunders, David Sproxton (Oscar-winning co-founder of Aardman Animations), Alan Lee (Oscar-winning art director for Lord of the Rings, also a festival patron) and Kevin MacDonald (BAFTA and Oscar-winning director).

The festival has become a destination for film buffs and enthusiasts wanting to watch films, expand their knowledge with Q&As and panel discussions, meet special guests and participate in workshops and talks. At least one Oscar winner is in attendance every year!

Boasting several exclusives and premieres, including ‘Land of Songs’ in 2016 and ‘A Dartmoor Killing’ in 2015. The workshops and talks coverer a broad range of filmmaking topics and practical workshops.

As well as being a traditional film festival focused on screening films of all shapes and sizes, Chagford Film Festival also has more than a sniff of Secret Cinema about it. It is famous for its quirky pop-up events and a notoriously anarchic closing day street spectacular that takes over the town centre.

*Supporting local filmmakers*

Chagford Film Festival is proud to support local talent as well as international film makers. This year we will award a 'Home Grown' prize for the best film submitted from a Devon-based film maker. This will be selected from all the entries in all categories.

*Judges*

We have lined up a selection of high calibre judges for this year’s competition, including award-winning directors, producers, cinematographers, documentary-makers and animators. Each category winner will receive a 'Chagford Globe’ and a laurel.

All selected films will be presented with a laurel (in digital format) to use on your film and in marketing materials.

The winner in each category will be announced at the gala awards ceremony which takes place on the evening of Friday 29th September 2017.

Each winner will be presented with a 'Chagford Globe'.

A special 'Local Talent' award will be given to one film written, directed or produced by someone based in Devon.

*The Festival*

The 7th Chagford Film Festival takes place in various venues in and around Chagford from Wednesday 27th to Saturday 30th September 2017.

The screenings of the official selections for each category will take place throughout the day on Friday 29th September 2017.

The gala awards ceremony takes place in the evening of Friday 29th September. The official selections will be read out, and the winner of each category will be announced during this event.

*Awards*

A laurel will be provided in electronic form for the official selections in each category.

The winner of each category will be presented with a ‘Chagford Globe’ award and winning laurel.

*Judges*

All entries will initially be judged by members of the 7th Chagford Film Festival organising committee and the programming team. comprising award-winning directors, producers and writers as well as the revered Globe Inn landlady Mary.

The official selection for each category will be judged by a specially invited panel of judges and one winner for each category will be chosen. The judges consist of working and respected industry talent.

The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence can be entered into regarding their decisions.

*Publicity*

The entrant will allow usage of clips from the film for promotional use online, on television, radio, in print and at preview screenings and other live events.

For marketing and publicity purposes, entries selected may be requested to supply marketing materials, high resolution stills from the film and a high resolution photograph of the film's director or stars. These materials may be forwarded on to media and press organisations.

*Eligibility*

You must be authorised to submit your film for consideration including permission from a distributor or sales agent representing the film and must have obtained necessary permissions for the inclusion of copyrighted music and/or images within the film. With your submission, you confirm that you possess all rights necessary for the screening of the submitted film at the Chagford Film Festival.

To be considered for the Local Talent award, the director and/or producer must be based in the country of Devon, UK.

Films must be submitted into one of the categories: documentary, short film, animation, music video.

A special ‘Home Grown’ award will be given to an entry where the writer, producer or director are based within the county of Devon, UK.

We welcome and encourage submissions from across the world. All entries must be either in English or subtitled in English. Non-English entries submitted without subtitles are not eligible.

The festival does not require any premiere status but note that this may come into consideration during the selection process. If your film will be a premiere, please note this as part of your submission.

*Entries, fees and refunds*

Refunds cannot be given once an entry has been submitted.

A separate entry form and entry fee is required for each film submitted.

Participants are not entitled to claim rental or other fees for the screenings of their films at the festival.

The festival organisers will contact selected entries by phone or email.

A film that has been selected to screen may subsequently be removed from the schedule prior to the event for the following reasons:

i. Any unresolved dispute as to the film’s ownership or permissions causing potential problems.
ii. Falsification of any information on the entry form.
iii. Any reasonable grounds for concern over the film’s screening as determined by the festival organisers.

All entrants are required to provide contact details as part of the submission process. This information will be used by Chagford Film Festival for contacting you regarding your entry and for sending you further publicity about this and future festivals.

Chagford Film Festival does not share, pass on or sell contact details to any other organisations or businesses.

*Terms and Conditions*

These terms and conditions can be updated at any time by the organisers. Any updates will apply to submissions already received as well as future submissions.

As part of your submission you will be asked if you have read and agreed with the Terms and Conditions laid out here. By agreeing to proceed with your submission you are agreeing to these Terms and Conditions and your application can then be processed. Entry of a film is binding and implies acceptance of these regulations.

In the event of disagreement concerning the interpretation of the regulations, the interpretation of the festival will take precedence.

Failure to comply with these Terms and Conditions may result in the submission being disqualified.
