National Short Film Competition of the Montilla Microcinema Festival

BASES VIII NATIONAL SHORT FILM COMPETITION OF THE MONTILLA FILM FESTIVAL

The production company Imprevisible Films and the Association of Cinema and Wine announce the national short film competition on the occasion of the VIII EDITION OF THE MONTILLA FILM FESTIVAL

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

All those who hold legal control of the works submitted to the competition may participate.

The person or entity (or their representative) who signs the short film submission will be considered by the organization as the sole valid interlocutor for any notification made and as the only party responsible towards other individuals or companies that have participated in the production.

Short films must have been produced after January 1, 2023.
Each author may submit as many works as they wish.

Only Spanish productions or co-productions may participate; those whose language is not Spanish must submit their works with subtitles in this language for screening.

Authors shall be responsible for the rights of their works.

Short films may be of any theme.

The maximum duration will be 15 minutes.

The selected films must be sent for screening before September 30, 2026 through Festhome. The video file (mov, mpeg 4) in Full HD (1920 x 1080), with H264 codec. STR subtitles.

SUBMISSION PERIOD

Participants must submit:

Completed entry form on Festhome

Link for viewing the short film available until the end of the selection process.

Together with your film on Festhome you will have to complete the form on Festhome, which will include additional material of the short film you wish to send us, brief curriculum of the author, synopsis of the work, trailers, stills from the short film, etc.

The deadline for submitting short films is August 25, 2026.

The short films submitted to the competition may be used by the Association of Cinema and Wine, the organizing entity of the MONTILLA FILM FESTIVAL, in future activities and screenings deemed appropriate. In addition, the additional materials of the selected short films may be used to promote the VIII EDITION OF THE MONTILLA FESTIVAL.

SUBMISSION OF SHORT FILMS:
The submission of short films may be carried out as follows: through the digital platform FESTHOME

SELECTION:
From all the short films received, a committee appointed by the Organization will select the works that will be screened at the festival.

The result of the selection will be made public through the festival’s closing gala, on OCTOBER 17, 2026 in Montilla.

The decision of the selection committee is final.
The 10 selected short films will be screened during the Montilla FILM Festival, which will take place on October 14, 15, 16 and 17, 2026.

AWARDS:

The jury will make a selection of 10 short films which will be the ones chosen for screenings during the festival. From these 10 short films the winners of the competition will be chosen.

It is mandatory that the author of the selected works attend the screening of their short film during the festival in order to be eligible for some of the awards.

On October 17, the Jury will announce the awards of the short film competition:

FIRST PRIZE, endowed with €1,000

SECOND PRIZE, endowed with €600

THIRD PRIZE, endowed with €300

If the jury considers it appropriate, it may declare one or more prizes void.
The jury’s decision will be final.

ACCEPTANCE AND PAYMENT OF THE AWARDS:

After the conclusion of the event, the Festival will contact the award winners by email to request the documentation required to manage the payment of the prize. The winners must issue an invoice in favor of the organizing entity, considering the applicable taxes. Once the necessary documentation has been received and processed, the payment of the prize will be made within a period not exceeding six months from the date of the Festival.

ARCHIVE / MEDIA LIBRARY:
The short films received will become part of the Festival’s audiovisual archive, intended for non-profit audiovisual dissemination, always of a promotional, cultural and/or educational nature.

The Festival will inform participants before scheduling the screening of their works in non-official sections of the Festival, accepting the decision of the latter.

ACCEPTANCE OF THE RULES
Submission implies acceptance of these rules as well as the decisions of the Organization and the selection committee. The organization will decide on unforeseen cases that may arise and are not covered by these rules.
