The Kuira Border Film Festival is a space of encounter and reflection that seeks to promote dialogue, social conscience, and citizen participation through cinema.
Its first edition, to be realized in April 2026, proposes to heal collectively the border from the gaze of cinema, memory, and community.
Slogan: “Riká Neechí Nawésari – Heal Together the Border”
Main headquarters: Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua
Modality: Itinerant – Community screenings in different points of the city.
The selected works will receive:
-Official recognition from the festival.
-Diffusion in local media and allied platforms.
-Possibility of participating in itinerant screenings and training activities.
Kuira Border Film Festival 2026
1. Presentation
The Kuira Border Film Festival is a space of encounter and reflection that seeks to promote dialogue, social conscience and citizen participation through cinema.
Its first edition, to be realized in April 2026, proposes to heal collectively the border from the gaze of cinema, memory and the community.2. Thematic axes
The works must address any of the following axes:
- Kórima: solidarity and collective resistance.
- Sipáachi: migration, identity and belonging.
- Chérame: urban resilience and social justice.
3. Categories of participation
- Short film (up to 30 minutes).
- Feature film: movies of more than 60 minutes.
4. Who can participate
Filmmakers, collectives, students and independent national or international directors may participate, with works that reflect the social, cultural or environmental reality of the borders.
Productions made or set in the north of Mexico and the south of the United States will be prioritized.
5. Technical requirements
- Maximum duration: 90 minutes.
- Accepted formats: .mp4, .mov (Full HD or superior).
- Mandatory subtitles in Spanish *only in case of movies recorded in a language different from Spanish.
- Maximum two works per participant.
6. Registration period
From January 13 to February 28, 2026.
The official selection will be announced on March 7, 2026.
7. Sending of materials
The registration will be realized through Festhome or through the form available at: www.kuirafestival.com/convocatoria2026 (link to be confirmed)
Each participant must attach:
- Download or viewing link of the work.
-Synopsis (maximum 150 words).
-Complete technical sheet.
-2 photographs of the work and 1 of the director.
-Brief biographical review (maximum 100 words).
8. Selection and exhibition
The selected works will form part of the Official Exhibition Kuira 2026, which will tour different cultural spaces, universities and neighborhoods of Ciudad Juárez.
The curatorial committee will value the originality, social pertinence, narrative and aesthetic proposal of each work.
9. Recognitions
The selected works will receive:
-Official recognition from the festival.
-Diffusion in local media and allied platforms.
-Possibility of participating in itinerant screenings and training activities.
