Le Festival International du Film Ethnographique du Québec est un festival gratuit qui a lieu simultanément à Montréal (du 28 Mars au 2 Avril 2019) et à Québec (dates à venir). Le FIFEQ est animé par la volonté de promouvoir le cinéma ethnographique au grand public. Unique en son genre au Canada, le festival vise à mettre en valeur l'être humain dans sa diversité en offrant une plateforme pour l'expression d'identités individuelles, collectives et culturelles distinctes. La sélection de films d'ici et d'ailleurs offre une occasion de réflexion, de dialogue et de rapprochement interculturel où tous.tes sont invité.e.s à la découverte de l'altérité.

The International Festival of Ethnographic Film of Québec is a free festival that takes place in Montréal (March 28 to April 2,2019) and in Québec (Dates to come). FIFEQ is driven by the desire to promote ethnographic cinema to the general public. Unique in Canada, the festival aims to highlight the human being in its diversity by providing a platform for the expression of distinct individuality as well as collective and cultural identities. The selection of films from Canada and abroad offers an opportunity for reflection, dialogue and intercultural exchange where all are invited to discover "otherness".

Les conditions d’admissibilité :

- L’œuvre doit avoir été produite après le 1er janvier 2017

- FIFEQ-MTL et FIFEQ-QC offrent l’exclusivité au cinéma ethnographique ou à caractère ethnographique d’auteur.

- Les œuvres de fiction, d’animation ou expérimentales doivent OBLIGATOIREMENT être à caractère ethnographique.

- Tout type de sujet est accepté, cependant les films de propagande, à caractère sexuel, ou discriminatoire seront REFUSÉES.

- Les œuvres déjà refusées au FIFEQ (MTL et QC) ne peuvent être soumises de nouveau.

- Le FIFEQ accepte les soumissions des types d’œuvres suivantes : Courts (moins de 30 min), moyens ( 31-59 min) et longs métrages ( 60 min et plus).

- Si la langue originale n’est ni le français, ni l’anglais, l’œuvre doit être sous titrée en français ou en anglais.

2- Frais d’inscription : La soumission des œuvres au festival est GRATUITE, par ailleurs les réalisateurs, producteurs et maisons de distributions s’engagent à leur tour à ne pas exiger des frais de diffusion lors du festival.

3- Confirmation des œuvres sélectionnées : La personne responsable de la soumission sera avisée de la sélection ou du refus de l’œuvre au plus tard fin janvier 2019.

4- Quelques questions au sujet de l’œuvre ethnographique:

- Dans quelles circonstances avez vous été amené à réaliser ce projet cinématographique?

- Quels est la durée d’immersion et de réalisation?

-Avez vous fait participer les protagonistes à la réalisation de votre film et de quelle manière?

- Comment considérez vous la présence de la caméra dans votre travail et dans votre relation avec les protagonistes?

- Avez vous montré votre film aux protagonistes? Quelles ont été les réactions?

1- The eligibility conditions for 2019 submissions are:

- The cinematographic work must have been produced after January 1, 2017
- FIFEQ-MTL and FIFEQ-QC offer exclusivity to INDEPENDENT works, ethnographic films
- Fiction, animation or experimental works MUST be of an ethnographic nature.
- Any type of subject is accepted, however the propaganda films, of a sexual nature, or
discriminatory will be REFUSED
- Works already rejected by FIFEQ (MTL and QC) can not be resubmitted.
- The FIFEQ accepts submissions for the following types of work: Short (less than 30 min), Medium (31-59 min) and Long feature (60 min and over).
- If the original language is either French nor English, the work must be subtitled in English or French.

2- Registration fees: The submission of the works to the festival is FREE, and directors, producers and distribution companies may not charge FIFEQ for the screening.

3- Confirmation of Selected Works: The person responsible for the submission will be notified of the selection or rejection of the work by the end of January 2019.

4- Some questions about the ethnographic work:

-What lead you to making this movie and exploring this subject?

-How much time have you been working on this particular subject?

-Have you involved the protagonists in the making of your film and if so, in what way?

- How do you consider the presence of the camera in your work and in your relationship with the protagonists?

- Have you shown your film to the protagonists? What were their reactions?
