The Bujaraloz Short Film Competition is a film festival in the heart of the Los Monegros region. The first edition took place on 9 December 2008, organised by the cultural association ‘Monegrinos Amigos del Séptimo Arte’, whose aim is to promote culture in rural areas, whilst, through the Seventh Art, raising the profile of our town and, more broadly, the entire Los Monegros region.

10. CATEGORIES AND AWARDS:
A/- BEST NATIONAL FICTION SHORT FILM: the winning short film will receive a cash prize of €750
B/- BEST NATIONAL ANIMATED SHORT FILM: the winning short film will receive a cash prize of €500 and a trophy
C/- BEST PERFORMANCE: Intended to recognise the individual performance of an actor or actress in their role, whether in a leading or supporting role. All performers are eligible for this award, regardless of the category in which the short film is entered. The winner will receive a trophy and a cash prize of €300.
D/- AWARD FOR BEST PROMOTIONAL FILM TRAILER: This category is open to all film trailers of any genre (medium-length films, feature films and documentaries), with a duration of no more than 3 minutes. The jury will assess both the ability to summarise the plot and the skill in engaging the viewer and generating interest in the film as a whole. Technical aspects such as editing, sound and scene transitions will also be taken into account. The organisers will select a shortlist of entries, and the winner will receive a trophy and a cash prize of €250.
E/-AWARD FOR THE BEST ARAGONESE SHORT FILM (FICTION, ANIMATION OR DOCUMENTARY); the winning short film will receive a trophy and a cash prize of €400. To be eligible for this prize, the director or producer of the short film must prove its Aragonese origin by providing: a National Identity Card (DNI), a certificate of residence, or the Tax Identification Number (CIF) of the production company.
F/- AUDIENCE AWARD FOR THE BEST ARAGONESE SHORT FILM, which will be awarded from among the Aragonese entries selected by the jury. These films will be screened during the festival programme and the audience will decide the winning film through their votes. The winner will receive a trophy and a cash prize of €300.
G/-“MIGUEL CARRERAS FOUNDATION. A RURAL PERSPECTIVE” AWARD: This award aims to highlight stories that explore rural areas from a human perspective, showcasing their landscapes, culture, traditions, challenges and, above all, the people who bring our villages to life.
Short films entered in this category will be eligible for this award, regardless of whether they are also entered in other sections of the competition (Fiction, Aragón, Animation or others).
Particular emphasis will be placed on entries that stand out for their connection to the rural world, the sensitivity with which they portray their protagonists, the way they highlight the identity and roots of the villages, as well as the originality, authenticity and sensitivity in the way their stories are told.
This category will have its own selection within the festival’s Official Selection.
The winning short film will be chosen directly by the organisers of the Bujaraloz Short Film Festival in conjunction with the Miguel Carreras Foundation.
Prize money: 300 euros.
H/-LOCAL CATEGORY: In order to maintain our impartiality in the awarding of prizes, it has been decided that this category will be assessed and judged by lecturers and/or students of Audiovisual Communication at San Jorge University.
First Prize: 100€.
NOTE: All prizes are subject to deductions as determined by current legislation.
“IN MONEGROS, WE FILM”
A section of the competition aimed at publicising and promoting audiovisual works filmed in our region, ranging from films to adverts, not forgetting music videos by both national and international artists. This section is for informational purposes only and does not carry a cash prize.
“ARAGÓN TV AWARD”
Aragón Televisión will award the “Aragón TV Award” in accordance with the following criteria:
• All works selected for the competition are eligible.
• The award will be decided by a vote of the Aragón TV panel.
• Prize money: 900 euros in return for the non-exclusive broadcasting rights to the audiovisual work.
• The broadcasting rights for Aragón TV will be subject to the following terms:
• Non-exclusive broadcast of the award-winning audiovisual work on Aragón TV’s digital channels for a period of one year, starting from the date the broadcaster approves the handover of materials.
• Non-exclusive broadcast of one screening of the award-winning audiovisual work on Aragón TV’s DTT channel. The DTT broadcast will take place during the one-year period in which the work is made available on the broadcaster’s digital platform.
• It is an essential requirement to hold the exclusive exploitation rights to the audiovisual work.
• Acceptance of the prize entails the delivery of the audiovisual work in accordance with the technical requirements established by the broadcaster.
• To process the Aragón TV prize, the film festival organisers must put the winner in contact with the broadcaster’s Department of New Audiovisual Projects.
• The deadline for submitting the materials shall be four months from the date of signing the contract with Aragón TV (regardless of the broadcast date). Should this deadline pass without the materials having been submitted, the “Aragón TV Prize” shall be deemed void for all purposes.
“SAN JORGE UNIVERSITY YOUTH JURY AWARD FOR BEST DIRECTOR UNDER 35”.
This award, organised by the University’s Bachelor’s Degree in Audiovisual Communication, is an open category open to all directors who, as of 9 October 2026, have not yet reached the age of 35 and who submit their work in any of the festival’s categories. At least three of the directors whose works are highest-ranked (even if they are not part of the official selection. If there are more works directed by those under 35 within the selection, all of them will be considered candidates for this award). The award consists of a statuette
This award is the sole responsibility of San Jorge University; therefore, the organisers of the Bujaraloz Short Film Festival accept no responsibility for either the judging or the awarding of this category.
13. The Bujaraloz Short Film Festival collaborates with the Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to shortlist candidates for the Goya Awards in the category of Best National Fiction and Animation Short Film. Short films selected for the festival’s Official Selection are eligible to enter. Furthermore, they must meet the requirements set out in the Academy’s rules for the Goya Awards for Short Films.
14. The Festival has also been selected by EGEDA to shortlist candidates for the José María Forqué Film Awards for Best Short Film; consequently, the winning short film will be eligible for this shortlist, provided it meets the requirements set out in the rules of those awards.
15. The Festival is also a qualifying event for the Fugaz Awards; accordingly, the short film that wins first prize will gain direct entry to the Fugaz shortlist of finalists, provided it is entered for those awards and complies with the rules of the relevant edition of the Fugaz Awards.
RULES FOR THE 19TH EDITION OF THE BUJARALOZ SHORT FILM COMPETITION 2026
1. All participants must provide proof of residence in Spain by submitting a photocopy of their DNI or NIE.
2. Entries must be in Spanish or, failing that, subtitled in Spanish.
3. The duration of the short film must not exceed 25 minutes.
4. Each participant may enter as many entries as they wish, submitting each one separately.
5. Entries must have been produced after 1 January 2025 and must not have been submitted to previous editions of this competition.
6. The organisers reserve the right to accept for the competition those entries they deem appropriate, rejecting any that, due to their content or subject matter, might be offensive to the viewer.
7. Entries must be in the organisers’ possession by 23:59 on 9 October 2026.
8. SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES:

9. The organising association will select the best entries from among those submitted to form the Official Selection. 9. La Asociación organizadora seleccionará, de entre los cortos presentados, los mejores trabajos para conformar la Sección Oficial.
Esos trabajos serán proyectados durante el Festival de Cine, optando así a los premios de la edición. Los cortometrajes quedarán en poder de la organización, formando parte de su archivo videográfico.
Pudiendo ser exhibidos, sin ánimo de lucro, en actividades paralelas al certamen cuando éste lo considere oportuno y siempre previa comunicación al director o productor de la obra, quienes podrán decidir no participar en dicha exhibición . Decisión que excluirá la proyección del cortometraje en la programación.
