After the success of our first two editions, we are happy to announce the call for submissions to the 3rd Edition of IMPACTE! Human Rights Film Festival of Catalonia, which will take place during the following dates:

● March 16 to 19, 2023: In-person
● March 20 to April 2, 2023: Online

The Festival will be headquartered in Barcelona and will run simultaneously in other cities of Catalonia — Girona, Granollers, Lleida, Reus and La Seu d'Urgell.

Call for submissions: from September 5 to December 18, 2022.


Films

We are looking for stories that speak out against injustice and human rights violations around the world, films that combine rigorous investigation with narrative and visual treatment capable of impacting wide audiences.

We are interested in films that are critical of the world and situations of injustice, but we also value a fighting spirit and ideas for change — community support, solidarity, cooperation.

Any topic will be accepted as long as it is related to traditional or emerging Human Rights, Global Justice, and Culture for Peace.

We would also like to receive films aimed at children and young people.

Other topics will not be considered.

Feature films will receive two honorific awards by a specialized jury, while the Award for Short Films will be chosen by online public vote:

● IMPACTE! Award to Best Feature Film
● IMPACTE! Award to Human Value
● IMPACTE! Award to Best Short Film

All participants — feature and short films — will receive an official diploma, as well as the corresponding official laurel of IMPACTE! Human Rights Film Festival of Catalonia.

Technical requirements

The following formats are accepted:
● Fiction feature films, minimum running time of 75 minutes
● Documentary films, minimum running time of 50 minutes
● Short films of any genre, between 5 and 30 minutes

Short films of any genre will be considered as a complement to the screening of feature films in movie theaters and to the parallel activities during the Onsite Version, and will also be available for watching on our website during the Online Version.

Films must have been shot after 1/6/2021 and not have been screened in Catalonia in movie theaters or TV, nor be available online nor on VOD or similar.

Films without a Spanish or Catalan version must have English or Spanish subtitles in order to be eligible for selection.

The Festival will subtitle all non-Spanish speaking films to Catalan for the screening in movie theaters.

Films selected must ensure a minimum resolution for screening of Full HD 1920x1080.

Films must be submitted by whoever legally holds their property rights.

In addition to those of exhibition, rights to duplicate video files will be given up in order to supply DCPs for the festival venues and video files for the online version, as well as to edit and use fragments and materials of the film for promotional purposes.

Films will be submitted through the festival online platforms Festhome and FilmFreeway, according to their respective forms and conditions.


Submission fees
● €5 for short films (up to 30 minutes)
● €8 for documentary feature films (more than 50 minutes)
● €10 for fiction feature films (more than 75 minutes)

No screening fee will be paid.

The selected films will fill up a formal agreement with IMPACTE! Human Rights Film Festival of Catalonia on the technical and legal details indicated in these rules, and others.

The Catalan or Spanish version of the selected films will become part of the Mediatheque of IMPACTE! Human Rights Film Festival of Catalonia for its possible subsequent exhibition in educational, pedagogical, awareness-raising, and promotion of human rights traveling or online screenings in Catalonia, free of charge for the audience and without commercial purposes.

Whoever submits the films authorizes the data provided in the submission to be incorporated into the database of Impacte Association. Film and Human Rights, the entity which organizes IMPACTE! Human Rights Film Festival of Catalonia.

This information will be treated confidentially and in accordance with the provisions of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament on the protection of general data. The owners of personal data may exercise their rights of access, rectification, cancellation, opposition, portability, and final deletion of the information provided to the person or entity responsible for the data processing.
