2022-23 JUNIOR SHORT FILM CALL FOR ENTRIES
OPEN TO CHILDREN AGED UNDER 13 YEARS OLD, FAMILIES AND SCHOOLS
We kindly ask all interested parties to read the Participation Rules carefully before submitting their material. Thanks in advance.
This Call for Entries is open to short films built up entirely from abstract imagery and sound. No representation! Only Dots & Lines as themselves. In its JUNIOR version, Punto y Raya invites children aged under 13 years old to focus on the beauty and creative possibilities of Audiovisual Art in its purest state: Form, Colour, Motion, Sound.
CATEGORIES · MINI: up to 7 years old (included)
· MEDIUM: 8, 9 & 10 years old
· MAXI: 11 & 12 years old * If there are mixed-age groups, the work will participate in the category belonging to the oldest team member.
Participation is FREE and the submissions must be made by a responsible adult acting on the young artists' behalf. Just REGISTER ONLINE and in your USER ACCOUNT you will find the FORMS to register ARTISTS (individuals or groups), INSTITUTIONS (the school / venue that hosted the production of the work, if applicable) and FILMS.
The DEADLINE is May 1st, 2023.

The fifth edition of Punto y Raya JUNIOR will take place in June 2023 in Wroclaw, Poland.
REQUIREMENTS
· The artists must be less than 13 years of age.
· The films must feature ONLY ABSTRACT IMAGERY, avoiding direct representation.
· Children can use any technique they want: drawing, video composition, cgi, scratch, op·art, stop·motion, camera·less...
· The Soundtrack cannot feature any words, in any language. If they're using a song, this must be instrumental or feature non·narrative voices [that is, no lyrics!]. We kindly encourge the children to produce their own original soundtrack.
· We invite teachers & parents to register part of the creative process behind the work, as it can be very inspiring for other children. Interviews, testimonies, they'll be most welcome for our 'Making of PyR Junior 2023' video. Thank you in advance for this extra effort :)
· Our preferred formats are .MOV | .MP4. Please, use none or high quality compression whenever possible.
· Maximum running time is 6 minutes.
· Opening and/or Closing Credits are welcome.
· Films must have been produced after 2019 (inclusive).
· We kindly request the responsible adults to enter the film/s in FULL HD / 1080p (1920 x 1080 / progressive scan).
· Our preferred formats are .MOV | .MP4. Please, use none or high quality compression whenever possible.
ELIGIBILITY
Participation is open to children and institutions working with children under 13 years old around the globe.
· APPRAISEMENT CRITERIA
· The intrinsic relationship between the Visual and the Sound tracks, and the quality and depth of the exploration of such relationship.
· The pictorial expressivity of the visuals, in its use of colour/B&W, form and movement.
· The work and exploration in the soundtrack composition.
· The concept’s originality; how far and deep does the author take it, independently of whether s/he is exploring pure conceptual form, aesthetical expression and/or narrative.
· SELECTION
· Each responsible adult can submit any number of works produced by children, as long as they meet our selection criteria.
· Punto y Raya Festival will devise two non-competitive sections from the received material: an OFFICIAL section and a PARALLEL one. All received works that meet our eligibility criteria will be featured at the festival in either of these sections. The works will also be included in the PyRTV platform, under the JUNIOR header. The selection will be announced by email to all registered responsible adults.
· Stills of the selected works and the texts entered during the submission process will be published in our information sheets, website and PyRTV online Catalogue. Accordingly, responsible adults are kindly requested to help the young artists prepare the texts carefully, and to submit the images in high resolution.
· The organisation will also devise teasers for TV and internet broadcasting, featuring excerpts from the selected films. These trailers are strictly to promote the event.
SPECIAL MENTIONS
Although the JUNIOR edition is of non-competitive nature, the audience will vote for the films which, in their opinion, better meet the following criteria:
- Most surprising work
- Most funny / amusing work
- Work with the best original soundtrack
- Work with the best colour explorations and compositions
- Work with the best shapes or characters
- Work with the best textures or technique
These Special Mentions will be specified on our website and the artists will be notified through their responsible adults accordingly.
ENTRY RIGHTS
By participating in this call, the young artists and their resonsible adults convey the non-exclusive rights to screen the material at the Festival.
The organisers of Punto y Raya Festival desire to make the results of the competition accessible to as large an audience as possible. To achieve this, a selection under the title "The Best of PyR JUNIOR 2023" will be screened at some of the venues in our international platform. By participating in this Call for Entries, the young artists and their responsible adults waive their non-exclusive rights to exhibit the works in this context.
ACCEPTANCE OF THE RULES
Submitting the film/s to this call entails the acceptance of these terms and conditions, as well as the interpretation and decisions of the festival organisation, selection committee, and audience. Any issues unforeseen in these rules will be sorted out by the festival organisers.
By taking part in our call, participants confirm being the owners of any license, copyrights and image/sound rights. MAD and all other institutions involved decline all legal responsibility for the films and their content.
