The national-regional Festival "Corto Cortismo" of Miguelturra (Ciudad Real), aims to promote short films as a means of audiovisual expression, contributing to their recognition, dissemination and appreciation as an essential means of transmitting culture. Considering it at all times CINEMA with capital letters and taking this format as a fundamental and essential part of CINEMA, we encourage you all to participate in it, as a platform for the exhibition of good work, which is surely being done by many people who He loves CINEMA as a profession and as one of the means of projection of Culture.

Our Festival presents a double modality of participation: regional and national, this, in turn, divided into the section of adult fiction short films, and the modality of children-family animation short films.

The regional modality will host all those works that come to us from people or teams that, in some way, have links with the region of Castilla-La Mancha and have been carried out in the last year.

For its part, the national modality will exhibit those works that are presented and that have been made in the last two years and have not been presented in previous editions of this Festival.

NATIONAL DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION RULES

The National Documentary Competition’s final phase will take place from November 19 to 22, 2026. Participation is open to short films involving production, direction, and/or technical crew from Spain. In other words, individuals may participate either independently or as part of any of these groups.

Submitted works must be original and may cover any documentary subject matter. Works that were finalists or prize-winners in previous editions of "Corto Cortismo" are ineligible for the competition.

Production of the works must have been completed after October 1, 2025.

PARTICIPATION

Participation may be carried out by following these steps:
• Sending the work on DVD or Blu-Ray, or using the platforms listed below that allow for proper online viewing; a download option must be provided if the work is selected for the screening phase.
• Each work must not exceed 29 minutes in duration.
• Works must be accompanied by the following identifying information, presented as a data sheet:
• Short film title.
• Technical specifications.
• duration.
• language.
• Name of the director, producer, and/or technical crew.
• Address.
• Contact telephone number.
• Email address.
• Submission of two still images (frames) from the competing short film in JPG format, along with the film's poster (if applicable).
• If sent by regular mail, the work must be properly protected—at a minimum, within its appropriate case—and the exterior must be labeled with two still images from the short film (on the same side or on both sides).
• Works may be submitted from August 10, 2026, until 12:00 midnight on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

Short films submitted for selection will remain in the possession of the Festival organization unless reclaimed by the author. Shipping costs to the festival are the responsibility of the participant, while return shipping costs are covered by the Festival organization.

Short films with original dialogue in a language other than Spanish must be subtitled in Spanish; otherwise, they will be rejected.


SELECTION

Works that ultimately compete in the final phase will be selected by the Festival's Official Technical Jury. A screening copy must be provided for all short films selected for the semi-final phase.

The Organization may propose including a work in a section other than the one originally entered.
The Official Technical Jury will be composed of film industry professionals and individuals with expertise in culture, media, and audiovisual arts.

The Organization will determine the screening dates and order, committing to screen the films solely within the context of the Festival, with the exception of promotional events linked to the Festival's organization and sponsors.

The winning short film will be determined by a popular vote among attendees at the various scheduled screenings. The Award for Best National Fiction Short Film will go to the film receiving the most support after applying a vote-weighting system based on attendance.

Rights holders of short films winning an award or honorable mention in any category agree to grant reproduction rights for the production of a promotional DVD or for promotional screenings of the Festival, provided these are free of charge and non-profit.

Authorization from the authors (whether material or intellectual creators) of the selected works is implied throughout the Festival's screening phase; neither the Miguelturra City Council nor the Cinefórum Miguelturra Cultural Association shall incur any contractual obligations toward the authors or any collecting societies regarding the works.

CLOSING GALA AND awards

The awards will be presented at the final closing gala, to be held at the Teatro-Cine Paz or CERE in Miguelturra on December 19, 2026, starting at 6:00 PM. Attendance by the winner—or a representative or team member of the winning short film—is mandatory in order to receive the cash prize.

• CALATRAVA CULTURAL PARK AWARD FOR BEST NATIONAL DOCUMENTARY SHORT FILM: €450 and a commemorative festival trophy, awarded to the best national documentary short film.

All cash prizes are subject to applicable personal income tax (IRPF) withholdings as required by law.

Submitted works must be original and may cover any fiction theme. Works that were finalists or award winners in previous editions of "Corto Cortismo" are ineligible for the competition.

Production on the works must have been completed after October 1, 2025.

• Sending the work on DVD or Blu-Ray, or using the platforms listed below that allow for proper online viewing; a download option must be provided if the work is selected for the screening phase.

CLOSING GALA AND awards

The awards will be presented at the final closing gala, which will take place at the Teatro-Cine Paz or CERE in Miguelturra on December 19, starting at 6:00 PM. This detail will be communicated well in advance. Attendance by the winner—or a representative or team member from the winning short film—is a mandatory requirement to receive the cash prize.

• CORTO CORTISMO Award: €600 and a commemorative festival trophy, awarded to the best fiction short film as voted by the audience.

• SPECIAL JURY Award: €300 and a commemorative festival trophy, awarded to the short film selected by the Festival Jury based on its technical cinematic qualities. ENTRIES FROM ALL OTHER FESTIVAL CATEGORIES ARE ALSO ELIGIBLE FOR THIS AWARD.

• SPECIAL AWARD FOR BEST FEMALE DIRECTION: €600 and a commemorative festival trophy, awarded to the short film deemed by the Festival Jury to feature the best female direction. ENTRIES FROM ALL OTHER FESTIVAL CATEGORIES ARE ALSO ELIGIBLE FOR THIS AWARD.

• SPECIAL SOCIAL COMMITMENT Award: €300 and a commemorative festival trophy, awarded to the short film selected by the Festival Jury for presenting a work that reflects the values ​​of engagement and solidarity associated with the award. ENTRIES FROM ALL OTHER FESTIVAL CATEGORIES ARE ALSO ELIGIBLE FOR THIS AWARD.

ANIMATION SECTION RULES

The Animation Competition’s final phase will take place from November 19 to 22, 2026. Participation is open to short films involving production, direction, and/or technical crew from Spain. In other words, individuals may participate either independently or as part of any of these groups.
Only one short film per producer, director, or technical team will advance to the final competition phase.

Submitted works must be original and may cover any fictional or documentary theme. Works that were finalists or award winners in previous editions of "Corto Cortismo" are ineligible for the competition.

The purpose of this section is to cater to child and family audiences; Therefore, submitted works focused on adult themes will be assigned to a different section of the festival at the organization's discretion.

Production of the works must have been completed after January 1, 2025.

PARTICIPATION

Participation may be arranged by following these steps:

• Sending the work on DVD or Blu-Ray, or using the platforms listed below that allow for proper online viewing; a download option must be provided if the work is selected for the screening phase.
• Each work must not exceed 20 minutes in duration.
• Works must be accompanied by the following identifying information, presented as a data sheet:
• Short film title.
• Technical specifications.

• Name of the director, producer, and/or technical team.
• Address.
• Contact telephone number.
• Email.
• Submission of two still images (frames) from the short film in JPG format, along with its poster (if available).

If sent via standard mail, the entry must be properly protected—at least within a suitable case—and clearly identified on the outside with two film stills (on the same side or on both sides).

• Entries may be submitted from August 10, 2026, until 11:59 PM (midnight) on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

This jury may propose entering a work in a category other than the one originally selected or declare the competition void if an insufficient number of entries is received to hold the event properly.

The official technical jury will be composed of film industry professionals and individuals with expertise in culture, journalism, and audiovisual media.

The Organization will determine the screening dates and order, committing to screening the films exclusively within the scope of the Festival, with the exception of promotional events. The winning short film will be determined by a direct vote from the audience attending screenings of the films, which are aimed at children and families.

The rights holders of short films that win an award or receive an honorable mention in any category agree to grant reproduction rights for the production of a promotional DVD or for promotional screenings of the festival, in all cases free of charge and on a non-profit basis.

Submission implies authorization from the authors or rights holders for the festival to screen the selected works during the event. Neither the Miguelturra City Council nor the Cinefórum Miguelturra Cultural Association assumes any contractual obligations toward the work's creator (material or intellectual) or any rights management society.

The management of the “Corto Cortismo” Festival will verify the connection of the submitted works to the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha.

Only one short film per producer, director, or technical crew will be accepted for the competition.

Submitted works must be original and may cover any fictional or documentary theme. Works that were finalists or prize-winners in previous editions of “Corto Cortismo” are ineligible for the competition.

Production of the works must have been completed after October 1, 2025.

PARTICIPATION

• Sending the work on DVD or Blu-Ray, or using the platforms listed below that allow for proper online viewing; a download option must be provided if the work is selected for the screening phase.

The Organization will determine the screening dates and order, committing to screen the films solely within the context of the Festival, with the exception of Festival promotional events.

The winning short film will be determined through a two-stage voting process. A public vote among attendees will identify the three short films receiving the most votes from the audience. From among these entries, the Festival's official technical jury will select the winning short film.
Additionally, following review by the Official Technical Jury, works demonstrating a higher level of professionalism will be selected separately from amateur films and documentaries; the latter two categories will be eligible for their own special awards, distinct from the more professional short films entered in the competition.

Rights holders of short films that win an award or receive a mention in any category agree to grant reproduction rights for the production of a promotional DVD or for promotional screenings of the Festival, in all cases on a free, non-profit basis.

Submission implies authorization from the authors or rights holders for the festival to screen the selected works during the event. Neither the Miguelturra City Council nor the Cinefórum Miguelturra Cultural Association assumes any contractual obligations toward the work's creator (material or intellectual) or any rights management organization.

All cash prizes are subject to the applicable personal income tax (IRPF) withholding as required by law.

The four main award categories are mutually exclusive and cannot be combined with runner-up awards, unless the Technical Jury rules otherwise in a duly justified, exceptional case. No film may compete for more than two runner-up awards simultaneously. The festival organizers reserve the right to declare any award category void if the jury deems it appropriate.
