VI Fouciño Awards: 2026 Call for Submissions Guidelines
The Premios Fouciño Association opens the call for submissions for short films to participate in the VI Edition of the Fouciño Awards, which will take place on October 23, 24, and 25, 2026.
These awards were established with the objective of rewarding the artistic, creative, and technical skills of students, as well as anyone interested in audiovisual creation, with participation divided into two categories. In this way, the competition seeks to promote cinema as a means of expression in society, especially that of an amateur or semi-professional nature. Another objective pursued by the Fouciño Awards is to increase the presence of the Galician language on the web.
To participate in this call, the guidelines are detailed below:
1. Participants
Anyone who wishes to participate may do so, regardless of their age. Participants can be natural or legal persons, as well as groups of natural or legal persons, public or private, who, even lacking legal personality, can create an audiovisual piece. In the latter case, a single representative or proxy for the group must be appointed, with sufficient powers to fulfill the obligations that may correspond to the group. In this case, this must be expressly stated in the application.
Two categories are established:
Category for Schools: Where all students up to 18 years of age can participate through their educational center. This includes public and private schools in any of the following cycles: preschool, primary, secondary, and baccalaureate (vocational training and university students are excluded).
Open Category: Where all natural or legal persons can participate, both individually and collectively. This also includes students who wish to submit pieces independently from their school.
Note: In either of the two categories, if the participants are minors, it is essential to submit the consent of parents or legal guardians by completing the authorization attached to this document (Annex I).
2. Audiovisual Pieces
The short films submitted to the competition must be works produced in the years 2025-2026.
The language of the audiovisual piece must be in Galician or subtitled in Galician.
The duration of each short film:
Up to 10 minutes in the school category.
Up to 15 minutes in the general category.
Stories must be original, self-created, or based on popular or literary works. If the short film is based on a literary work, the relevant authorizations regarding copyright must be accredited.
Short films already submitted in previous editions will not be accepted.
Short films in music video format will not be accepted.
Authors are solely responsible for the content of the submitted pieces. In the case of minors, responsibility will fall upon the legal representative of the minor.
Short films must be delivered in .mov or .mp4 format (H.264 codec), 1920x1080 or 1280x720 resolution, maximum bitrate of 20,000 kbps, and AAC audio. The jury reserves the right to reject a short film due to poor image and/or sound quality.
The organization will not provide any type of equipment for the completion of the pieces.
The use of tools and content generation with artificial intelligence is permitted as long as it does not exceed 20% of the footage.
All participating short films must have the necessary authorizations and copyright assignments from authors and other holders of pre-existing and original works incorporated within them. In this sense, participants guarantee that the short films do not infringe upon any exploitation rights, rights to honor, privacy, and self-image, intellectual and/or industrial property rights, or any other rights of third parties, and that they do not violate current legislation.
3. Procedure, Registration, and Documentation
These awards will be granted through a competitive process, in which the participants defined in section 1 may submit as many short films as they wish. Under no circumstances may the same piece receive more than one award.
Registration for the competition will be open from March 2, 2026, to June 30, 2026. The call will accept short films until 23:59h on June 30.
Registration is free of charge and must be done through the competition's website by completing a form and the corresponding authorizations.
In the section of the form corresponding to the link of the work, access must be added to view the work on the platform where it is hosted; this link must remain available until the end of the current edition of the festival.
Once registration is complete, the natural person who registered the work will receive a confirmation email (check the spam folder). For any questions, you can contact: premiosfoucino@gmail.com.
The registration form for the work must clearly specify who the legal representative of the work is. In the event of winning a cash prize for the best short film in each category, the legal representative will be the person to whom the corresponding amount will be transferred. Any payment made to the legal representative designated in the registration form will release the Association from liability if the payment should have been made to another person.
Likewise, the author or legal representative of the short film agrees to present works where the images and music are original or, where applicable, have the necessary permission to use them, which must be attached if requested by the organization. The assigned legal representative is responsible for compliance with these guidelines and the regulations applicable to their activity.
Required Documentation to Participate:
Registration form and the documentation required within it.
Registration sheet for the short film and promotional material.
Audiovisual piece or link to download the content (it is important that the link is available for viewing at any time).
Along with the registration sheets (Annexes I and II), a declaration of compliance must be provided according to Annex III.
It is mandatory to present the documentation and data requested in all the previous sections, as well as, if applicable, those indicated below.
Documentation for Finalists:
Finalists must also provide the following documentation, which will be submitted later when they are notified that they are a finalist:
Bank proof of the account number held by the beneficiary of the award.
Certificate of being up to date with tax and Social Security obligations, or authorization for the Zas Town Council to consult the data, after filling out and signing the form for such authorization (Annex IV).
Note: In the event of not being up to date, they will lose their status as beneficiaries of the awards.
Notification and Selection Conditions:
Works selected for the official competition will receive a private notification from the Fouciño Awards in the weeks prior to the festival, so they will know before it is made public. The legal representatives of the works agree not to make it public until the festival itself does so. Non-compliance with this point will be grounds for exclusion from the competition. Should this happen, the disqualified work would be replaced in the competition by the first short film listed in the internal pre-selection as the first reserve.
Selected works will be screened within the programming of the Fouciño Awards, which will take place on October 24, 2026.
The organization reserves the right to use up to 10% of the running time of each selected piece for promotional use for the festival and the works themselves.
Winning works may be screened in their entirety at the event and later in promotional acts for the Fouciño Awards. These screenings will always be for cultural purposes, never for commercial gain. Acceptance of these guidelines includes the assignment to the Association of a non-exclusive right of distribution, reproduction, and public communication for the purposes described, with no other use permitted and no other rights assigned.
If, in the interval between the selection process of works and the dates of the festival, any producer or director receives an express conviction for any crime classified as gender violence, they will automatically be excluded by the organization from the section in which they were selected. The Association reserves the right to apply this same guideline to those convicted by a final judgment for any other crime that may damage the public image of the festival.
Once the participation period has ended (from March 2 to June 30, 2026, at 00:00h), the organization will verify compliance with the requirements established in these guidelines. Through a resolution, a provisional list of the submitted short films participating in the contest will be approved. In the case of applications missing documentation, they will have a period of 5 calendar days to remedy the existing deficiencies. After this period, the final list of participating audiovisual pieces will be published, granting a period of two calendar days for claims. If it is not necessary to request documentation, the provisional and final lists will be published without needing the 5 calendar days to elapse.
4. Selection of Finalists, Jury, and Awards
The jury for the Fouciño Awards will consist of professionals from the fields of cinema, audiovisuals, music, communication, and culture. All members will be announced before the start of the festival, and their decision will be final. For the valid constitution of the jury, a minimum presence of three members will be required.
For the Audience Award, voting will be carried out using ballots deposited in ballot boxes during the festival. The deadline for voting will be 35 minutes from the end of the last screening session; after that time, the voting system in the ballot boxes will close.
Awards may be left vacant if the jury so decides. The jury may establish special mentions as it deems appropriate.
List of Awards (Gross Amounts):
- General Category: €1,000
- School Category: €500
- Audience Award – General Category: €150
- Audience Award – School Category: €150
The corresponding withholdings required by current law will be applied to the prizes at the appropriate time.
The organization will under no circumstances cover commissions for wire transfers to non-European current accounts for the awards granted; therefore, transfers will only be made to European current accounts.
Awards will only be granted if there is a minimum of three short films participating in the competition. Otherwise, the organization reserves the right to declare the contest vacant.
Each participating piece cannot receive more than one award or mention.
5. Screenings
The screening of the finalist short films selected for the VI Fouciño Awards will take place on October 24, 2026, within the framework of the festival, which will also feature outdoor concerts and other parallel activities. During the festival, there will be a slot for the award ceremony.
In the event that any date or schedule is modified, it will be communicated through the website and the social networks of the competition.
The venue for the screenings will be the village of Baio, in the municipality of Zas.
Participation in this call implies acceptance of these guidelines.
