Merhaba!

Since every hello is filled with hope, we have said our every hello with hope. Even though we have left a difficult year behind, Hello, a hopeful Hello to everyone!

We have been through a difficult year where sexism and conservatism has threatened our lives more and more. One more year has passed where it got harder and sometimes actually impossible to enjoy even our rights such as divorce and abortion and where ‘family’ has been made to become a ‘fetish’ transcending the independent existence of women. Furthermore, it has been a year where we have even lost hundreds of women who got murdered just because they wanted to leave that violent and oppressive family and get a divorce… In these very years, where the severest results of the transition from obedience to uprising are being suffered by women, they still did not give up their rights, resistance and hopes. Thus, if we are all together able to say that our body, life, work, decisions and rights are ours, then we are hopeful that we can also overcome these difficult years!

After a difficult year, the festival that relies on no other support than the solidarity of women says Hello for the 12th time! We are saying that, If a handful of women can overcome all the difficulties of organizing an independent festival with women and for women, there is still hope and hence we keep sharing our efforts, resistance, hopes and dreams.

Our festival has always been one without a competition: our motto has been that ‘women don’t need competition but solidarity and to stand together’ for the past 10 years. There still is no competition in our festival but there is a solidarity award: Purple Camera Promising Woman Film Maker Award! Actually we have been hesitant in giving awards for many many years. But now we wanted to give this award with an intent to show our solidarity and to stand together with the women film makers who are willing to make films and are at the beginning of their film making careers. As far as our means let us, we will give this award to the directors of films which create a space for:

- The representations of women as non-passive, non-traditional and non-sexist,

- The subjecthood, subjectivity, resistance, action and dreams of women who are trapped in the cage of conservative and patriarchal oppression.

In this festival, as always, you will be able to watch films in several different sections: in the Women’s Cinema section you will be able to watch films made last year; in our theme sections Our Body is Ours and A Purse of her Own, films which will accompany us in our struggle to overcome the difficulties of the year we have been through; and in the Sex-ual-ity section you will be able to watch films on gender issues.
