PARTICIPATION BASES

SHORT FILMS, DOCUMENTS AND FEATURE FILMS

Short films, documentaries and feature films that meet each and every one of the following bases may be submitted:

REQUIREMENTS FOR SHORT FILMS AND DOCUMENTS ELIGIBLE FOR THE SOM CINEMA AWARDS

Specific Bases

• Works completed after July 1, 2024, produced or co-produced by audiovisual companies and/or producers with headquarters or residence in Catalonia, the Valencian Community, the Balearic Islands, Andorra, Northern Catalonia, the Franja de Ponent and the city of Alghero, with a minimum percentage of 51% for short films and 50% for documentaries, will be accepted for evaluation by the selection committee. Works in which the participation of producers from the aforementioned territories is exclusively financial and/or that do not reflect an effective technical and artistic participation of people from the aforementioned territories will not be considered.
• Any work with a final copy in any language will be accepted.
• The duration of the short films may not exceed 20’.
• Productions with a final copy in a vehicular language other than Catalan or Spanish will, however, be subtitled in one of these languages.
• They must not have been commercially screened in cinemas for general distribution, broadcast on general television, distributed on DVD, BLU RAY or any other video format for the sale or rental market or broadcast through any mass distribution channel that would lead the selection committee to consider the film as a premiere. Both short films and documentaries cannot have been previously exhibited or screened in the city of Lleida.
• The previous point is exempted from its exhibition or participation in other festivals, cycles or territorial presentations in the rest of Catalonia or the state, as long as it has been carried out without the participation of distribution companies.

• The theme of participation is free, but the festival management will recommend not selecting those works that are disrespectful to any culture, social group or collective, according to its criteria. Those themes that promote hatred between peoples, xenophobia, discrimination due to sexual orientation, religious belief, political tendency or any other assumption that violates freedom of expression and thought will be especially avoided.

• For those works that have been financed through micro-patronage campaigns or similar, the organization will provide its promoters, if applicable, with the possibility of holding exclusive screenings for patrons.

Categories and Awards

• One category is established for the fiction short film and two for documentaries divided into short documentary, lasting up to 30’ and feature documentary, lasting over 30’.
• The following awards are established:

1. Award for the best fiction short film.

2. Award for the best documentary short film.

3. Award for the best documentary feature film.

• The jury may award as many special mentions as it deems appropriate, as long as it justifies the reason why a non-awarded work stands out.

Registration and Deadlines

To consider a production as registered, it is necessary to register the production on the SOM CINEMA page of the FESTHOME platform, identified and authorized by the legitimate owner, production company or companies, independent producer or producers, who will ultimately be the ones who will represent the work at the festival and will apply for the award or designate who will do so.

• The deadline for submitting entries will be July 3, 2025

• The demonstration of fraudulent use of any of the works or any fragment thereof, whether visual or audio, that does not legitimately belong to the person or company that has registered it, will be grounds for invalidation at any time during the process, even subsequently. The Festival reserves the right to demand the reinstatement of a prize and to claim the relevant responsibilities.

Juries

• A jury will be formed for the documentary categories and another for the fiction categories.
• The juries will be made up of a minimum of three people.
• One of the members of each jury will act as president and will have a casting vote in the event of a tie-breaker.
• It is the responsibility of the presidents of the juries, or a delegated member thereof, to publicly read the minutes, which will, however, be signed by all its members.
• The selection of these juries is the responsibility of the organization and will be made up of people from the world of culture, cinema or audiovisual and communication.
• The composition of the juries will be made public prior to the start of the event. Any subsequent changes will be communicated through the same media in which they were made public.
• The selected films will be part of the programming of the FESTIVAL SOM CINEMA of Lleida and will comply with the exhibition conditions of the festival. The award ceremony for the winning work will take place during the closing ceremony of the FESTIVAL in Lleida, which will be held in October 2025, with the attendance of the author, awarded producer or person designated by the production company.
• The awarded film is obliged to incorporate in the exhibition credits and/or presentation of the film the name of the award and the corresponding logo.
• The Festival organization is exempted, towards third parties, from any responsibility in the case of plagiarism or improper use of the works.
• Participation in this Award implies acceptance of its rules and the decision of the Jury, which will be final.

FORMATS AND SCREENINGS FOR ALL CATEGORIES

• The projection format is DCP. BLU RAY and DIGITAL FILE projection formats may be accepted, depending on the venue's option.
• The productions selected for competition will be screened within the framework of the SOM CINEMA FESTIVAL in Lleida,
• The screening copies will be sent within the deadlines requested by the organization. The person or company that has registered is responsible for sending them.
• The organization is responsible for returning the copies and will do so to the address
required by the person or company that has registered, within the established deadlines. Only copies in memory of DCP and BLU RAY will be returned.

REQUIREMENTS FOR FEATURE FILMS ELIGIBLE FOR THE SOM CINEMA AWARD FOR THE BEST FICTION FEATURE FILM.

Award intended for fiction feature films of independent production, by auteur and/or first works made by authors and/or producers, that promote alternative, emerging cinema and new talents.

Specific Rules

1. Fiction feature films of independent production, by auteur and first works made by authors and/or producers, that promote alternative, emerging cinema and new talents may compete for the Award; that meet the following conditions:

• Fiction feature films made by authors, producers and/or audiovisual companies with headquarters or residence in Catalonia, the Valencian Community, the Balearic Islands, Andorra, Northern Catalonia, the Franja de Ponent and the city of Alghero in the minimum percentage of 51%. Works in which the participation of producers from the aforementioned territories is exclusively financial and/or does not reflect an effective technical and artistic participation of people from the aforementioned territories will not be considered.
• The entire production process must have been completed after July 1, 2024.
• Exceptional circumstances affecting filming times, post-production and exhibition availability will be taken into account.
• Films that have begun their festival run after the indicated date may also be admitted, although, obviously, their production has been developed previously.
• Participating films must not have been broadcast on general television, distributed on DVD, BLU RAY or in any video format for the sales or rental market or broadcast through any mass distribution channel that would lead the selection committee to consider the film as ineligible. If it has already been commercially released, it must not have been released in the Lleida region before the festival.
• Films that have participated in other festivals, cycles or territorial presentations in the rest of Catalonia or the State may also be selected, as long as they have been made without the participation of distribution companies.
• The theme of participation is free, but works that are disrespectful to any culture, social group or collective will be excluded. Especially those themes that promote hatred between peoples, xenophobia, discrimination due to sexual orientation, religious belief, political tendency or any other assumption that violates freedom of expression and thought will be avoided.

2. A single and indivisible prize of 2,000 euros is established, subject to tax withholdings as established by law.
3. The jury will also award a special prize to another of the participating films for its values ​​and content that it considers to be outstanding.

4. Participants are responsible for complying with the legal provisions regarding intellectual property and protection of image rights. Demonstration of fraudulent use of any of the works or any fragment thereof, whether visual or sound, that does not legitimately belong to the person or company that has registered it, will be grounds for invalidation at any time during the process, even subsequently.

• The organization reserves the right to demand the return of a prize and to claim the relevant responsibilities.

Registration and deadlines

5. 6. The copies will not be used in their entirety for public dissemination outside the dates and spaces established by the Festival, unless the organization wants to hold a promotional event before or after and, in this case, the Festival will communicate this to its legitimate owner, who must expressly authorize it in writing.

7. THE SOM CINEMA FESTIVAL of Lleida may make one or more online broadcasts of the film and only during the days of the Festival within the framework of the online version of the same, always with the agreement of the owners thereof.

• The deadline for submitting entries will be July 3, 2025.
• Once registered, the films will be assessed by a selection committee that will determine the conformity of their participation and submit them to the evaluation of the award jury.

The Jury

8. The Jury will be made up of a minimum of three people and will be formed by people from the world of performing arts, cinema or audiovisual. The Jury will assess the artistic, interpretative, script, production and editing quality of the selected works. The Jury's resolution, prior notification after notification to the winner, it will be made public and can later be consulted on the SOM CINEMA website.
• The selected films will be part of the SOM CINEMA FESTIVAL Lleida program and will comply with the festival's exhibition conditions. The award ceremony for the winning work will take place during the closing ceremony of the FESTIVAL in Lleida, which will be held in October 2025, with the attendance of the author, awarded producer or person designated by the production company.
• The awarded film is obliged to incorporate the name of the award and the corresponding logo in the exhibition credits and/or presentation of the film.
• The Festival organization is exempted, towards third parties, from any liability in the case of plagiarism or improper use of the works.
• Participation in this Award implies acceptance of its rules and the Jury's decision, which will be final.

MATERIALS FOR ALL CATEGORIES

9. Registrations must be accompanied by the following material:

• Short films: 4 photographs of the production in JPEG format. Trailer sending download link.

• Documentaries: 4 photographs of the production, 1 of the director and poster, all in JPEG format and a brief professional review of the director. Trailer sending download link.

• Feature films: 4 photos of the production, 1 of the director and poster, all in JPEG format and a brief professional review by the director. Trailer sending download link.

SELECTION FOR ALL CATEGORIES

• The Festival management will appoint a selection committee to assess which works will be selected for the different categories of the Official Competitive Section.
• This committee will have a minimum of three members.
• The committee's decision, once validated by the management, will be final.
• The Festival organization will communicate the selection committee's decision to those registered.
• The organization will request a copy in the corresponding format from those selected.

ADDITIONAL CLAUSE

• The organization reserves the right to modify these rules at any time if it deems it necessary for reasons of force majeure, with the commitment not to alter the fairness and transparency of the process.
