THE CULTURE DEPARTMENT OF GUADALCANAL TOWN COUNCIL (SEVILLE) IS ORGANISING THE 8TH EDITION OF THE GUADALCANAL EN CORTO SHORT FILM FESTIVAL, ENTITLED ‘SMILE, PLEASE’, WHICH WILL TAKE PLACE FROM 22 TO 24 OCTOBER 2026.

Cash Prizes: 3,000€

AWARDS OF THE 8TH EDITION

● GOLDEN FRAME Award for Spanish comedy short films, consisting of a statuette and €1,000.

● ANDALUSIAN SPARKLE Award for Andalusian comedy short films, consisting of a statuette and €800.

● HONORARY RENDER Award for animated short films, consisting of a statuette and €500.

● CAPTIVATING SPARK Award for the short film most voted for by the audience, consisting of a statuette and €200.

● BEST FEMALE PERFORMANCE Award, consisting of a statuette.

● BEST MALE PERFORMANCE Award, consisting of a statuette.

● Award for BEST AMATEUR SHORT FILM FROM THE PROVINCE OF SEVILLE, consisting of a statuette and €300.

This award is dedicated to all films shot within the province of Seville. The location of the filming must be included in the required information (section F). IMPORTANT! Participating short films cannot have been submitted to other festivals.

● Award for BEST AMATEUR SHORT FILM FROM GUADALCANAL, consisting of a statuette and €200.

This award is dedicated to all films shot in Guadalcanal. Only filmmakers of short films submitted in this category may be minors.

Their short film must include authorization signed by a parent or legal guardian.

RULES

VIII SHORT FILM FESTIVAL GUADALCANAL EN CORTO “Smile, please”

1. THEME AND ELIGIBILITY
The festival focuses on the following themes:

Comedy

Animation

Conditions:

Short films must be of Spanish nationality.

Exception: Animated short films may be international, provided they include Spanish subtitles.

2. language
Short films may be silent or with sound.

The main language must be Spanish.

Films in other languages must include Spanish subtitles (mandatory).

3. RIGHTS
The organization assumes that participants:

Hold all screening and promotional rights for their works.

Release the festival from any legal responsibility regarding infringement of these rights.

4. JURY
The jury will be appointed by the organization.

Its decision will be final and binding.

The jury may:

Declare awards void.

Resolve any issues not covered in these rules.

5. TECHNICAL QUALITY
The organization reserves the right to reject submissions that do not meet minimum standards of:

Image quality

Sound quality

6. ORIGINALITY
Short films submitted must not have been presented in previous editions of this festival.

7. CONFLICT OF INTEREST
Films related to members of the organization or jury will not be accepted.

8. SCREENING RIGHTS
Selected short films may be screened:

In cultural activities organized by the Guadalcanal Town Council.

On a non-profit basis.

Including: Promotion of future editions and screenings in nearby towns.

9. FESTIVAL DATES
Dates: October 22–24, 2026

Venue: Municipal Cinema–Theatre of Guadalcanal

Public screenings with free admission.

PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
A. PRODUCTION DATE
Completed after January 1, 2025.

B. duration
Maximum 15 minutes (including credits).

C. PARTICIPANTS

Must be over 18 years old.

Must hold Spanish nationality.

Participation may be individual or collective.

D. SUBMISSION deadline
From May 1 to June 30, 2026 (inclusive).

E. SUBMISSION METHODS

G. SELECTION PROCESS

A pre-selection will be carried out.

Selected filmmakers must submit a screening copy and film poster within 15 days of notification.

Submission via: SwissTransfer or similar platforms / Email.

H. TECHNICAL FORMAT

Video: .MPEG, .MP4, .MOV (H264)

Audio: 48 kHz, 16-bit

CLARIFICATION NOTE
Due to organizational and scheduling needs, the festival registration platforms will open on May 1, 2026, to ensure the smooth running of the event and facilitate participation.

However, please note that final approval of the rules may not occur until May 5, 2026. Therefore, registrations submitted between May 1 and 7 will be subject to the final approval of these rules and may be subject to adjustments or modifications. The organizers will communicate any relevant changes as soon as possible through official channels.
