The International Film Festival with Alternative Media (FICMA) seeks to promote and disseminate the creation of quality films and audiovisual projects made with new digital narratives and new technologies such as smartphones, tablets, drones, GoPro cameras, dsrl cameras, among others, as well as creative and innovative techniques.

The Sixth Edition of FICMA will be held from December 7 to 11, 2021 in Mexico City.

The official FICMA prize consists of a printed or digital certificate, as well as in-kind prizes in some categories from our sponsors, which will be disclosed on the social networks and official website.

The festival reserves the right to award honorable mentions to the works it deems worthy of them.

The submission and participation of a film or project implies full acceptance of the terms, conditions and rules of the festival.

RULES AND TERMS

Entries will be open from April 5 and will close on July 31 with no possibility of prolongation.

It is planned to make the festival in a mixed way, with presential and online screenings, but depending on the conditions in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the way the films are screened could change.

The films and projects in a language other than Spanish will require subtitles in Spanish or english, with a few exceptions in some categories that do not require them.

The work selected for the Official Selection and Official Competition must be subtitled in Spanish, with the exception of the categories that do not require it, they will be given a reasonable amount of time to subtitle them, and the filmmakers will also be given the option of subtitling service by the festival, the cost of which will depend on the project in question, this will be reviewed with the participant via email.

National and foreign filmmakers with films and projects produced between 2019, 2020 and 2021 will be able to participate.

Films and projects submitted in all categories must be created with devices such as smartphones, tablets, Action Cameras, drones, DSLR cameras, Blackmagic pocket, Osmo, as well as other alternative and original techniques.

Films and projects created with Red One, Scarlet X, Epic, Arri Alexa, Sony f6, 35mm, 16mm or any professional or conventional film camera will not be accepted.

The films and projects must clearly specify what devices or creative means were used to create them, proving it by means of photos, stills or videos (Behind the scenes).


CATEGORIES


INTERNATIONAL SECTION.


Fiction Short Film: Productions with a minimum length of 1 minute and a maximum of 30 minutes including credits, with spanish subtitles. Free theme.

Documentary Short Film: Productions with a minimum length of 1 minute and a maximum running time of 30 minutes including credits, with spanish subtitles. Free theme.

Digital Animation Short Film: Productions created with digital animation methods or non-conventional creative media, with a minimum length of 1 minute and a maximum of 30 minutes including credits, with spanish subtitles. Free theme.

Experimental Short Film: Projects created with non-conventional and/or abstract narrative methods seeking expression through the use of new symbolism and alternative resources to express concepts and experiences that comply with the festival's requirements of not using professional cameras (video dance, performance and filmed theater will not be accepted), with a minimum length of 1 minute and a maximum of 30 minutes including credits, with spanish subtitles. Free theme.

Transmedia: Transmedia storytelling projects that have at least 3 communication platforms and one of them must be audiovisual media such as feature film, short film, video game, webseries, book, comic, etc., that comply with the rules of transmedia, the project description will be delivered in a PDF document containing what is necessary to describe the work, attaching viewing or links to the audiovisual part and files on the FESTHOME platform. In spanish or english subtitles. Free theme.

Webseries: Internet series, only one episode or pilot will be accepted where it is considered to best describe and represent the web series storyline.In spanish or english subtitles. Free theme.

Zoom Narratives or videocalls: Audiovisual or creative projects created through online communication platforms such as zoom, Meet, Streamyard, Skype, Hangouts, Whatsapp, etc., with a minimum length of 10 and maximum 90 minutes, including credits, with a free theme.In spanish or english subtitles.

Nano-films: Projects with audiovisual narrative of short duration (maximum 45 seconds) made with applications such as TikTok, Instagram Stories and Reels, Facebook Stories and similar applications, with a free theme.In spanish or english subtitles.

MEXICAN SECTION


Mexican Fiction Short Film: Mexican films with a minimum of 1 minute and a maximum of 30 minutes including credits, free theme.

Mexican Documentary Short Film: Mexican films with a minimum of 1 minute and a maximum of 30 minutes including credits, free theme.

Mexican University Short Film (Documentary or Fiction): Mexican productions made by students of cinematography, Communication Sciences or related careers as long as they can prove it with a document that proves they are part of the university enrollment and/or are supported by the same university, with a minimum of 1 minute and a maximum of 30 minutes including credits, free theme.


CONDITIONS AND REGISTRATION FEES


Submission period will begin on April 5 and will close on July 31 with no possibility of prolongation.
Once the call for entries closes, in September and October a pre-selection will be made. The FICMA team will contact the pre-selected filmmakers via e-mail (an e-mail address that is checked frequently is required) to request the missing material and information regarding the requirements of this call for entries.

If there is no response from the pre-selected filmmakers within 2 weeks, the project will be automatically disqualified.

In April and May submissions will be free of charge for the International and Mexican sections, from June 1 a $8 USD late registration fee will be charged and $10 USD for the registration extension from July 1.

Filmmakers will be able to register and pay the fees for their projects through the FESTHOME platform, where it is mandatory to have the download option for viewing with a link and password.
The format for viewing and downloading is MP4 1920 x 1080 full HD WITHOUT WATERMARK, with the best quality that your device or camera allows, physical copies will not be accepted.

Participants may submit one or more works in all categories, there is no limit to the number of projects to be submitted.
Advertising spots and corporate or government videos will not be accepted.
Once a work has been entered in the festival and subsequently chosen for the official selection, the project will become part of the Sixth Edition of FICMA 2021, and cannot be withdrawn or cancelled from the final program.

It is mandatory that participants submit digital press kits containing stills of the work (300 dpi, in jpg or png format), photo of the Director (300 dpi, in jpg or png format), poster of the film, production photos (300 Dpi, in jpg or png format) trailer (optional), on the FESTHOME platform where the material can be downloaded.

SELECTION AND EXHIBITION:


The organizing committee will evaluate the films and projects and choose the best of them in the different categories of the festival and will select those that will make up the Official and competition selection of FICMA 2021 and reserves the right to schedule the order, date and way of exhibition (online or on-site screenings) of the selected films.
The festival will not pay for exhibition rights of the works submitted in the official selection or in competition.
To create the selection, the committee will evaluate the works taking into account the production values of the work (script, direction, photography, editing, image quality), devices used to record, use of alternative technologies, creativity and originality.

The filmmakers who register the work are credited as the authors of the work and holders of the moral and patrimonial rights of the same, the filmmakers agree to release FICMA from any responsibility for any possible claim of copyright that could be generated by third parties.
The work selected for the official selection will be part of FICMA's video library, which will be used only for cultural and artistic purposes.

The results of the official selection will be published on November 8 on the festival's digital platforms and social networks. Those selected will be notified by e-mail.

The festival will be able to use fragments of the work for promotion and diffusion of the festival.

The works of the official selection will be part of traveling exhibitions and film cycles in exhibition agreements with other festivals, institutions and digital platforms with the proper security.

JURY AND awards

The jury will be made up of professionals from the film, culture and technology industries and its decision will be final.

The winners of the different categories in competition and honorable mentions will be announced on the last day of the festival at the closing ceremony and through e-mail, the festival's website and social networks.

Jury members may not submit entries in the different categories in competition at the festival.

No member of FICMA may be part of the jury or compete in the festival.

The official FICMA prize consists of a printed or digital certificate, as well as in-kind prizes in some categories from our sponsors, which will be disclosed on the social networks and official website.
The festival reserves the right to award honorable mentions to the works it deems worthy of them.

The submission and participation of a work implies full acceptance of the terms, conditions and rules of the festival.
