MIRANCHURITO FEST 2027 — Stories Beyond Borders, Cinema That Connects Communities

Pupiales, Nariño, Colombia | International Short Film Festival

Some stories begin in a small town and end up speaking to the world. Others travel from distant places and find a new way to be heard within a community.

MIRANCHURITO FEST was created to celebrate that encounter.

Based in Pupiales, Nariño, Colombia, our International Film Festival welcomes independent filmmakers, emerging talents, and creative voices from around the world who use cinema to explore identity, question reality, move audiences, and change the way we see one another.

We are looking for films with something to say. Stories that surprise us through their perspective, sensitivity, visual language, or ability to bring us closer to different realities. Whether you are taking your first steps in filmmaking or continuing an established creative journey, we want to discover new voices and celebrate the many ways stories can be told.

A Space for New Perspectives

MIRANCHURITO FEST welcomes fiction, documentary, and animation short films, with national and international categories and distinctions for debut works. We invite filmmakers exploring personal, social, experimental, cultural, and fantastic worlds, as well as those pushing the boundaries of cinematic storytelling.

We believe cinema does not end when the credits roll. It lives on in the conversations it inspires, the people it brings together, and the questions it leaves behind.

The Papialpa Statuette: Recognition with Identity

The Papialpa Statuette is the distinctive symbol of MIRANCHURITO FEST. It represents the festival’s commitment to authentic stories, creativity, and the value of voices that deserve to be heard.

Winning films will receive the award corresponding to their category and official festival recognition. Participants will receive a certificate of participation, subject to the terms of the call for entries.

Participation is about more than competing for an award. It is an opportunity to share your work with a cultural initiative seeking to bring cinema closer to the community and recognize the diversity of the people who make it possible.

Why Submit Your Film?

An international film festival rooted in Pupiales, Nariño, Colombia.

Categories for national and international short films.

Your Story Deserves to Be Seen

If you have a film that invites audiences to see the world differently, a story that deserves to reach new viewers, or a voice just beginning to find its way, we want to discover your work.

Submit through Festhome and become part of MIRANCHURITO FEST 2027.

MIRANCHURITO FEST — The world tells stories. We create a place for them to meet.

Winning at MIRANCHURITO FEST means being recognized by a community that celebrates cinematic art with passion, commitment, and respect for diverse storytelling.

Each awarded film will receive the “Papialpa” statue, the official symbol of the festival, representing creative spirit, narrative strength, and the ancestral power behind stories that deserve to be told.

The following distinctions will be granted by the official jury:

Best National Fiction Short Film

Best National Documentary Short Film

Best International Fiction Short Film

Best International Documentary Short Film

Best Animated Short Film

Best One-Minute Film (Filminuto)

Emerging Talent Award – Debut Film (Ópera Prima)

The Papialpa Statue is more than just an award — it is a symbol of creative identity, narrative resilience, and artistic value, bestowed upon works that stand out for their language, impact, and authenticity.

8. Competition Categories

The organizing committee reserves the right to reassign a film to a different category if it better aligns with the festival’s curatorial criteria.

The decisions of the jury and the selection committee are final, non-negotiable, and not subject to appeal.

11. Exhibition and Promotional Use Authorization

• Screen the film in in-person and/or virtual sessions during the festival.
