VerSonar – Music in Film Festival.

VerSonar celebrates the power of music in cinema. We invite short, medium, and feature-length films in categories such as music video, fiction, documentary, and biopic, offering space for new perspectives and promoting local identity.

The selected works will be presented in official screenings and a variety of festival-related activities.

VerSonar is a meeting point for creators and audiences, where music and image intertwine to tell stories that can be both felt and heard.

VerSonar Guidelines
I International Music in Film Festival

I. Objectives

The First VerSonar Festival aims to promote and showcase audiovisual works in which music plays a central role, providing a meeting space for filmmakers, musicians, and audiences, with a special emphasis on the promotion of new perspectives and local identity.

II. Categories and Formats

Audiovisual Formats
Short Films – 2 to 19 minutes, credits included.
Medium-Length Films – 20 to 49 minutes, credits included.
Feature-Length Films – 50 minutes or longer, credits included.
Music Videos – Open duration.

Genres
Fiction
Documentary
Biopic

Note: Genres may be applied to any format, with the exception of music videos, which are considered an independent format.

III. Submission

- Submissions must be made exclusively through the Festhome platform, from November 17 to December 22.
- The call is open to filmmakers of any nationality.
- Eligible works must have been produced on or after January 1, 2023.
- Each participant may submit more than one work, provided all requirements are met.
- Works must be submitted in their original version. If the original language is not Spanish, Spanish subtitles are required.

IV. Special Call – Local Section

- Los Ríos and La Araucanía Regions, Chile (Non-competitive)-

- Versonar presents a Special Call for audiovisual works connected to the Los Ríos and La Araucanía Regions, Chile, to be screened in a program exclusively dedicated to works from these territories.

- Eligible works include documentary, fiction, and biopic films, in short, medium-length, feature, and music video formats, where music or the sonic universe plays a relevant role.

- For this first edition, there is no restriction on the year of production.

- This section is non-competitive.

V. Selection

- The selection of works will be carried out by the VerSonar Festival Programming Committee.
- The committee’s decisions are final and not subject to appeal.
- Selected works will be notified through the Festhome platform and by email, and announced on the festival’s official website and social media channels.

VI. Exhibition of Selected Works

- Selection implies the express authorization for the exhibition of the work within the framework of the VerSonar Festival.
- This authorization is non-exclusive, with all rights remaining with the authors or producers.
This authorization includes:
- Screening in official festival programs.
- Use of excerpts (up to 3 minutes) and images for festival promotion purposes.
- The festival may organize touring screenings or exhibitions associated with other activities, subject to prior notification to the rights holders, who may accept or decline participation.
- Any other use must have the express written authorization of the rights holder.

VII. General Conditions

- Participation in the festival implies full acceptance of these guidelines.
- Participants guarantee that they hold the exhibition rights to the submitted works.
- The festival is not responsible for any claims arising from copyright or intellectual property issues.
- Any situation not covered by these guidelines will be resolved by the festival organization.
