The Blanes - Costa Brava International Film Festival is an international film festival that presents documentaries, fiction and animation, short and feature films, series and video art. It consists of international competitive sections, non-competitive sections and parallel activities. All the films that make up the different sections will be selected by the Festival's programming committee.
The following prizes are established:

CONDITIONS FOR FILM ENTRIES - 2024 EDITION
The Blanes - Costa Brava International Film Festival is an international film festival that presents documentaries, fiction and animation, short and feature films, series and video art. It consists of international competitive sections, non-competitive sections and parallel activities.
All the films that make up the different sections will be selected by the Festival's programming committee.
The 1st edition of the Blanes - Costa Brava International Film Festival will be held in May 2024.
The following rules govern the nomination of films for the Official Competitive Sections:
• The Official Section - Short Films brings together a selection of the best and most recent international short films presented in competition.
• The Official Selection - Feature Films brings together a selection of the best and most recent international feature films presented in competition.
• The guest country section brings together films from this year's guest country.
1. General registration requirements
deadlines:
Registration deadline: 30 March 2024
Notification: All participants will be notified of the selection by 22 April 2024.
Submission of materials and project copies: Before 30 April 2024
Final selection: Final selection and screening schedules will be notified by 1 May 2024.
Nominees for the awards: Nominees for each award will be notified by 18 May 2024.
1.1 The films participating in the Official Sections will be selected by the Festival programmers. Their decision is final.
1.2 The organisation will preferably inform applicants of the selected films by e-mail and publish it on the Festival's website.
Admission criteria:
1.3 In all three sections, the films submitted must meet the following conditions:
- produced after 1 January 2020
- not previously distributed or marketed in the La Selva region
The Festival management reserves the right to schedule, exceptionally, films that do not meet these requirements, always out of competition.
1.4 The valid procedures for submitting a film to the Festival are: by registering on the online platform www.festhome.com. Submissions of DVDs or other physical and/or digital formats will be accepted at the following address: Blanes - Festival Internacional de Cinema de la Costa Brava - Ajuntament de Blanes - Passeig de Dintre 29, 17300 Blanes (Girona).
1.5 Films must be presented in their original language and have subtitles in Catalan and Spanish. If the film is in a language other than Catalan or Spanish, the festival will assume the costs of translation and subtitling, but will not be entitled to remuneration in the form of screening rights. subtitles must be provided in srt.

2.2 None of the financial awards can be declared null or awarded jointly (ex aequo).
2.3 The cash prizes are subject to the Spanish Income Tax (IRPF) legislation in force for Spanish productions and on the basis of international double taxation agreements for foreign films, the latter being responsible for the payment of the corresponding taxes.
2.4 Receipt of the financial award is contingent upon the director's attendance at the award ceremony. Trophies can only be collected in person and will not be sent by post.
2.5 All decisions made by the Festival and the jury are final. The registration and participation of a film in the Festival implies full acceptance of these rules. Any doubts that may arise and that are not resolved in these rules will be resolved by the Festival Organising Committee.
3. Remuneration of films
3.1 Fiction and animation feature films (>60'): The Festival will establish a variable remuneration for all fiction and animation feature films selected for competition. The amounts will be determined according to criteria such as quality, market demand and other relevant factors. It is the obligation of the production companies to provide the corresponding invoices to the Festival Organisation in order to process the payment of these amounts. These amounts will be paid after attendance at the festival. No payment will be made without the required invoice or after the end of the current year.
3.2 Selected films (short films, documentaries and feature films): At the discretion of the Festival, travel expenses and 1 double night's accommodation will be covered for selected films up to a maximum of €150 if they are presented to the audience. To receive payment, it is essential to attend the day of the screening of your film. The amount will be paid after attending the festival upon presentation of the corresponding invoice.
3.3 Award-winning films (short films, documentaries and feature films): The organisation will cover travel expenses and 1 double night's accommodation for the Nominated Films up to a maximum of €150. In order to receive the payment, it is essential to attend the awards Ceremony, which will be held on Sunday 18 May.
3.4 All these amounts will be paid after the festival has taken place. The amounts will also be paid to the person who has entered the film in the festival, who is recognised as having the legal authority to participate in the festival and who assumes that all parties involved (distributor, producer, director or filmmaker... ) are aware of this participation.
3.5 In the case of non-Spanish produced films, invoices will be issued without VAT and the payment of taxes will be the responsibility of the issuer.
4. How to register a film
4.1 The accepted procedures for submitting a film to the Festival are: through the platform www.Festhome.com or by post.
• Registration on the Festhome platform, which includes a technical package, promotional material and an online link. Participants must ensure that their YouTube, Vimeo or other passwords do not expire or change until the end of the Festival.
• Entries by post or by hand, must include the entry form, a technical sheet, promotional material and a physical support with the film. It must be sent to Blanes - Festival Internacional de Cinema de la Costa Brava - Ajuntament de Blanes - Passeig de Dintre 29, 17300 Blanes (Girona).
Unreleased films wishing to premiere at the Festival, whether they are considered international or national premieres, must expressly notify the Festival by e-mail.
4.2 The Festival accepts submissions of films with rough cuts for consideration by the programmers. At the time of entry, it must be clearly stated that this is a non-final edit of the film. The organisers will contact the entrant and/or the person who submitted the entry directly to request a final and/or definitive version of the film if necessary.
4.3 The participant assures that the film submitted is original and is not subject to contracts, assignments or licenses to third parties of copyright or intellectual property or other rights, except for the author's own rights.
4.4 Only applications that arrive on time will be accepted and incomplete applications will not be considered.
5. Selection process, requirements and authorisations
Selection process
5.1 The selection for the different sections of the festival will be made by the organisers. The result will be published on the festival website and social media before 22 April 2024. Applicants for the selected films will receive a confirmation email and the festival rules and regulations.
5.2 A maximum of 50 short films will be selected for screening and competition within the festival.
5.3 A maximum of 10 feature films will be selected, including fiction, animation and documentaries.
5.4 This selection will be made without distinction of theme and will include the proposals of the invited culture. The aim is to offer a diverse and quality representation of national and international contemporary cinema.
5.5 A professional jury will deliberate on the Festival's nominees and awards, and will nominate a maximum of 5 nominees for each award.
Formats
5.6 Selected films must have a screening copy available in the following formats: FullHD digital copy or Blu-ray. The Festival will not accept copies that do not meet the minimum screening conditions.
Screening venues
5.7 The selected films will be screened in person during the festival at the Teatre Municipal de Blanes and at other venues decided by the organisers. The organisers reserve the right to rotate the screenings.
5.8 Exceptionally, participating films may also be screened in geo-blocked streaming for a limited period of time via the festival's online channel and under conditions to be agreed with the service provider.
Authorisations, liability and publicity
5.9 Participants exempt the Festival Organisation from any responsibility derived from plagiarism or any transgression of current legislation that they may incur. The films will be presented by a person who holds the rights to them or who represents them. The person submitting the films to the competition will be responsible for the payment of the royalties generated by their work.
5.10 The prize-winners undertake to include a mention of the prize-winner in subsequent broadcasts of the film. Furthermore, they authorise the organisation to use extracts (less than 1') and photographs for the promotion and publicity of the Festival in all physical and digital media, including social networks.
5.11 All the films received will become part of the video documentary collection of the Blanes - Costa Brava International Film Festival, which will in no case return any of the copies to their authors. By registering for the event, the selected participants authorise the Organisation to reproduce their films during the Festival, as well as during the "El Dia Més Curt" day and in travelling sessions of the festival a total of 3 times. No film will be screened more than 3 times without the owner's consent.
Selected films may not, under any circumstances, be unilaterally withdrawn from the competition by the person or production company that has entered the film in the festival once the selection has been notified by the festival, and must comply with the requirements of the section in which they participate until their presentation at the Festival. The Festival will recognise the signatory of this inscription as the sole interlocutor to negotiate all aspects related to the participation of the film in the competition and as the sole responsible before other companies or persons who may have participated in the production of the film.
