The Alimenterre festival raises awareness of food and agriculture issues and questions our ways of cultivating the land and living on it.
It offers screenings followed by debates, meetings, workshops and concerts with specialists from the world of agriculture, filmmakers, experts from the North and the South, as well as people involved in initiatives for healthy, sustainable and resilient agricultural and food systems.
It takes place over 5 days in mid-October in Belgium (Brussels and 6 cities in Wallonia) before touring West Africa (Senegal, DRC, Burkina Faso).
It is organised by SOS Faim, an international solidarity NGO active since 1964 in the food and environmental transition in Africa and Latin America. The NGO supports family farming, which has enormous potential to meet the challenges of food security, social equity and environmental sustainability.
Cash Prizes: 2,000€
Alimenterre Prize: €2000
PROGRAMMING CHOICES
- The Alimenterre festival aims to present works on the themes of food, agriculture, agro-ecological transition (with a particular focus on youth, international solidarity, gender equity).
- The programming committee wishes to give priority to works which, through their formal and aesthetic choices, propose a reflection, an invitation to change one's outlook, alternatives or courses of action.
- The programme is open to all film genres: documentaries, animated films, educational films, fiction. Promotional and institutional films will not be considered.
- The proposed films must have a duration of :
- up to 30' for short films
- between 31' and 60' for medium-length films
- more than 60' for feature films (with priority given to films not exceeding 90' in order to allow for debate)
- Films must have been produced after 1 January 2019. The Festival will give priority to unreleased films, but this is not a prerequisite.
- Having French subtitles is a serious advantage.
SELECTION PROCESS
The films will be chosen by a selection committee which will ensure that the applications are in perfect conformity with the Festival's philosophy. The selected films will be screened at the Alimenterre Festival in Brussels but may also be screened at various decentralised events in Wallonia (Namur, Liège, Ottignies-Louvain-La-Neuve, Charleroi, Arlon, Mons, etc.) as well as at international events in Africa.
The selection committee will inform the selected candidates by e-mail.
If the film is selected, the producer, or any other authorised person, undertakes to send :
- A screening copy of the film in perfect condition and in high definition (DCP or Blu-ray or HD link)
- Promotional material (HQ photos of the film, director's bio, trailer, awards list, posters, etc.).
The documents and the copy of the film will be sent at the expense of the candidates who renounce any recourse against the organisers.
The Festival team will contact the distributor, producer or any other authorised person to determine the amount of the broadcasting rights.
