Festival start: 19 June 2026      Festival end: 21 June 2026

RURÉFILOS, International Film and Rural World Festival is a multidisciplinary meeting point in which, through audiovisual language, a space is provided for debate and creative reflection on the past, present and future of the rural world.

The RURÉFILOS Awards Ceremony will take place within the framework of the Festival.

Among the fifteen finalist short films selected, a First Prize is established per category (fiction, documentary and amateur).

The First Prize in the Fiction and Documentary categories will consist of an exclusive work of art, created by renowned artists for the occasion, a diploma and local products courtesy of the sponsors.

The First Prize in the Amateur category will consist of technical audiovisual material.

Likewise, and during the screenings, voting by attendees will be facilitated, establishing a Special Audience Award that will consist of a voucher to enjoy a leisure experience in the area.

In the event that the short film selected by the public coincides with the short films awarded by the jury, the Special Audience Award would be awarded to the short film next in obtaining points.

None of the prizes may be declared void or awarded ex aequo. The jury's decisions will be final.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR RURÉFILOS

Producers or filmmakers of any nationality who own the rights to the works they submit are eligible to participate. Short films created with AI will not be accepted.

There are three categories for participation:

1. Fiction: Short films whose main theme, setting, or story content features the rural environment and/or small rural communities as significant elements, and which address, in some way, the approaches expressed in the objectives section.

2. Documentary: Short films whose main theme addresses any aspect related to the rural environment from a perspective of culture, development, and sustainability, incorporating one or more of the approaches expressed in the objectives section.

3. Local Filmmaking: Short films with a rural theme, with a maximum duration of 5 minutes, produced by individuals or groups (associations, town councils, groups of friends, etc.) from municipalities in the province of Burgos with a population of less than 12,000 inhabitants. Each municipality may submit only one short film.

OBJECTIVES

The dissemination, conservation, defense, and future projection of the tangible and intangible heritage of the rural world in all its manifestations.

The visibility of initiatives, projects, and narratives that are committed to the development and sustainability of rural areas, respecting, promoting, and valuing their cultural heritage and that of their creators.

The empowerment of people in their role as storytellers, facilitating their connection with their own poetic resources to express their experiences and their relationship with the environment. The value of the image as a universal language.

Intergenerational exchange and horizontal participation in a necessary and essential debate about the future of the rural world.

The revitalization of the rural environment through the celebration of this initiative, uncommon in small communities, which can represent "a window to the world" for the population or association of municipalities that ultimately wishes to host it.
The affirmation of the transformative power of creativity.

LANGUAGES

Short films may be in any language, provided they include Spanish subtitles.

PRODUCTION DATE AND LENGTH

Submitted short films must have been produced after January 1, 2024. The length of submissions to categories 1 and 2, fiction and documentary, may not exceed 30 minutes. Submissions to category 3 may not exceed 5 minutes.

REGISTRATION

Registration will be done through the platform www.festhome.com. It will be necessary to complete the corresponding registration form and upload the short film file for pre-selection.

Registration and submission period for short films:
From March 16 to May 3, 2026.

SELECTION

From all the short films received, the jury will select fifteen finalists, five from each category (documentary, fiction, and Claqueta Vecina).

The festival organizers will contact the filmmakers to request, if necessary, a high-quality version of their short film for screening. Short films in the Claqueta Vecina category will be subject to special consideration.

The selected short films will be screened during the Festival's scheduled activities, which are planned for June 19-21, 2026.

The Short Film Festival Awards Ceremony will take place as part of the Festival's activities.

The filmmakers/producers, or their representative, of the winning short films who reside within 150 km of the festival venue must attend the Festival; otherwise, the short film will be disqualified. This clause does not apply to international short films or those from other parts of Spain.

Submitting a short film to the competition implies acceptance of these rules.

The winning short films and their creators will be announced to the media.

JURY

The jury will be composed of a combination of local figures and professionals from the arts and film industry, selected by the festival directors.

MARIANO DÍEZ TOBAR AWARDS

A First Prize will be awarded in each category (fiction, documentary, and Claqueta Vecina) among the selected short films.

Additionally, during the screenings, audience voting will be facilitated, and a Special Audience Award will be given to the short films competing in the Documentary and Fiction categories.

In keeping with the desire to promote the richness and diversity of the rural world, the awards will be closely linked to the various artistic and cultural expressions of the region, and may be artistic, gastronomic, artisanal, experiential, or other in nature, as deemed relevant and aligned with the spirit of the festival.

In the event that the short film selected by the audience coincides with the short films awarded by the jury, the Audience Choice Award will be given to the short film with the next highest score.

None of the awards may be declared void or awarded jointly. The jury's decisions are final.

ACCEPTANCE OF THE RULES

Participation in this Festival implies acceptance of all sections of these rules, as well as the resolution, by the organizers, of any unforeseen issues.

COMMITMENT TO PARTICIPATION

The person submitting the work to the Festival declares that they are authorized by the production company to provide a copy of the film and accepts the rules of the competition.
