International Otherness Film Festival
National and international official selection in competition 2024
The International Otherness Film Festival endeavors to cultivate audiovisual artistic expression and facilitate the development of young individuals on their path to professionalism, primarily by providing a platform that encompasses educational opportunities, recognition, and creative inspiration for individuals interested in the field of cinematographic arts.
Our aim is to shed light on the diverse backgrounds and experiences of young people from across the globe, thereby inspiring emerging artists to utilize their creative voices in narrating their unique stories.
- Production companies, Universities, Producers, Directors, Film students, Communications students, Individuals associated with relevant careers, General public.
The convocation will remain open from Feb to June, 2024.
The primary focus of the convocation is to cater to university students, filmmakers, and audiovisual artists within the Mexican territory, as well as individuals residing anywhere in the country.
Awards:
The screening and award ceremony will be held on September 1, 2024, as part of the FICOT closing ceremony.
Winners in the official national and international categories will receive digital recognition, a statuette, and the prestigious FICOT laurels. Additionally, there will be an exciting surprise prize from our sponsors.

How to Participate:
To participate, please follow the instructions below:
- Project registration should be completed through the application form provided on the Festhome platform.
- Registration is entirely free and is open from the beginning to the conclusion of the convocation period.
- Short films, employing any technique, are eligible for participation, provided that the author possesses the rights to the work.
- The project must have been produced between January 2020 and the closing date of this call. Previous participation in other exhibitions, contests, and festivals is permissible.
- Registration is open to individuals of all nationalities, irrespective of their residency status in Mexico.
The registration process for the contest will be conducted solely online, adhering to the following specifications:
1. Projects must be submitted electronically through a password-protected viewing link provided in the registration form. The password should be included within the same form.
2. Films that are in a language other than Spanish must include Spanish subtitles.
Selection Process:
The selection of the winning projects will be conducted by a jury comprising esteemed experts with a notable background in the field of cinema. The names of the jury members will be announced on the FICOT website following the conclusion of the convocation for entries.
The official selection of the festival will be screened at the University of Guanajuato and will also be available for online viewing on the festival's website during the festival period and for an additional week (with the authorization of the project's author).
The official selection of the festival will be announced on Monday, August 14, 2023, through the festival's website and FICOT's social media platforms. This announcement will be accompanied by an image and a technical data sheet of the selected project.
The festival organizers will directly contact the selected individuals to provide further instructions regarding the submission of materials.
If the director of a selected short film is in attendance, they will have the opportunity to participate in Q&A sessions following the screening.
Participants are responsible for covering any travel and accommodation expenses that may arise. For inquiries and coordination with our partners, please communicate such expenses through the designated email address.
Following the conclusion of the festival, a certificate of participation will be sent to all participants.
By participating in this contest, it is implied that the participants accept the rules and regulations.
The exhibition rights of the resulting short films will be held by the International Otherness Film Festival and its producing team as co-producers. Both FICOT and the team reserve the right to exhibit and promote the films at any given time.

• All short films may participate, in any technique, as long as the author owns the rights to the work presented.
• The work in the competition must have been produced between January 2021 and the closing date of this call. It is allowed to have participated in other festivals, exhibitions and competitions.
• All people may register regardless of their nationality, whether or not they reside in Mexican territory.
