FRONTERA SUR, International Non-Fiction Film Festival, is a non-competitive event that exhibits a set of cinematographic, Chilean, Latin American and worldwide works related to the concept of non-fiction cinema.
The sixth edition of the FRONTERA SUR Festival will take place from May 14 to 18, 2024, in the Concepción city, Biobío Region, southern Chile.
FRONTERA SUR, 6th INTERNATIONAL NON_FICTION FILM FESTIVAL
REGULATIONS
1_ FRONTERA SUR, International Non_Fiction Film Festival, is a non-competitive event that exhibits a set of cinematographic, Chilean, Latin American and worldwide works related to the concept of non-fiction cinema.
2_ The sixth edition of FRONTERA SUR festival will be held in May 2024, in Concepción city, Biobío Region, southern Chile.
3_ Films about any subject and of any duration will be considered, as long as they are included in the category of non-fiction cinema. This category includes documentaries and also other film works which are in a less defined ground, between fiction and documentary, between narrative and experimental, exploring new ways of aesthetics and narratives that not suit within the commercial circuit. It is about a cinema of author, border cinema, independent, risked and innovative.
4_ In order to a film to be considered at the festival program, it is necessary to be inscribed by the owner of the copyrights.
5_ Only films completed on or after January 1st 2021, which haven’t previously been shown on television channels or distributed on Blu-ray or DVD, are accepted. Preference will be given to works that haven’t previously been exhibited in the Biobío region cinemas.
6_ The films must express the point of view and the artistic intention of the authors. Reports will not be considered, neither propaganda or institutional films. Neither will be accepted those films that were already postulated to previous festival versions.
7_ When registering a film at FRONTERA SUR Festival, the participant authorizes its exhibition, online and in person, without limit of functions in the context of the festival (may 2024), renouncing all economic retribution for that concept. In addition, the film will become part of the Video Library of FRONTERA SUR, for non-profit educational and cultural purposes. The owner of the film will retain the copyrights of the same. In the case that the festival decides to schedule new screenings the owner will be informed with due anticipation.
8_ The films will be screen in original Spanish version (or subtitled in Spanish) in theaters in the Concepción city and on the festival’s digital platform, and will be available for viewing in Chile and also throughout Latin America, depending on the decision of each participant. The registered films whose language is different from Spanish must have a subtitled copy in Spanish. The festival will take care for translating dialogue lists and/or subtitling films only in very exceptional situations.
9_ The registration period extends from August 8 to September 10, 2023. Chilean films on the post-production stage at the close of this call may register a preliminary cut. In case of being selected the festival will determine the deadline of the final cut.

11_ The festival doesn’t accept shipments through download platforms with an expiration date as WeTransfer, nor from private storage services like Dropbox or others.
12_ The official selection will be publicly announced in April 2024. The selected participants must send the exhibition copy of the film no later than December 20th. The sending cost will be borne by the person who inscribed the film and the return will be paid by the festival.
13_ The exhibition formats are: Digital file (H264 or Apple ProRes) and DCP (only exceptionally).
14_ The festival can use still images or fragments of up to three minutes of the films of the official selection in any of its printed, electronic or audiovisual publications.
15_ The festival organization is not responsible for the content of the works. The participants declare to be the owners or have the copyright of all the visual and sound material included in them. The responsibility for any claim by third parties will be exclusively of the participant who presents the work.
16_ The registration in FRONTERA SUR Festival implies the acceptance of the present conditions in these regulations.
17_ After invitation acceptance in one of the festival sections, the film will not be able to be retired.
18_ The organization of FRONTERA SUR has the right to modify the dates, modality and other elements of the festival that are not covered in these regulations, if there are circumstances that warrant it.
