OBJECTIVE
To contribute to the recognition, appreciation, and respect for diverse cultures and the full exercise of the rights of Indigenous nations and peoples, Afro-descendant communities, and Mother Earth—including the right to communication—within a framework of genuine interculturality and as a contribution to social transformation for "living well" (*vivir bien* or *buen vivir*).
CRITERIA
The Anaconda Award in Guatemala seeks to foster local processes centered on self-determined communication as a tool for defending rights and denouncing rights violations and the persecution of defenders of Mother Earth and natural resources, as well as to build capacity for reporting and advocacy within this sphere. In this context, it will address local needs and requirements to establish or strengthen these capacities through education and training processes, alongside initiatives for reflection, exchange, and networking.
It also aims to promote reflection, debate, dissemination, and awareness regarding the rights of Indigenous peoples and Afro-descendant communities. This serves to foster recognition, appreciation, and respect for plurality—ensuring the full exercise of the right to communication and self-determined filmmaking—while opposing racism and all forms of discrimination.
It may also serve as a platform to denounce violations and raise awareness regarding women's rights, striving toward a world free from all forms of violence against women, adolescent girls, and female children.
In its 11th edition, the award is open to various production genres and all themes concerning the realities, rights, and cultures of Indigenous peoples and Afro-descendant communities.
