1. The Fundación Obra Social de Castilla y León (FUNDOS), Canal Saber and the Muestra de Cine Internacional de Palencia (MCIP) are announcing the first edition of their ‘Microsaberes’ competition.
2. The competition is open to the participation of documentary short films whose central theme is some of the social challenges present in the territory of Castilla y León. The microdocumentaries presented must be freely inspired by this motto.
3. All producers and directors who present nationally produced films may participate.
4. Those interested in participating may submit an unlimited number of works or short films to the competition.
5. The works may not exceed 3 minutes in length under any circumstances.
6. The works may be submitted in any of the following audiovisual formats: 3GP, 3GPP, MP4, MPG, FLV, MKW, MOV and AVI. The quality of the works may not be less than HD720P. The organization recommends, however, a quality of FHD1080P to facilitate its projection and viewing in the theater.
7. Each participant may send their material and upload their short films on the Festhome website from October 14 to December 15, 2024, both inclusive, no material will be admitted to the competition outside of these dates. When registering the microdocumentary for the competition, the following information must be provided: name and surname, contact telephone number and email, as well as completing the attached form (Annex 1) to send it (with the subject MICROSABERES) to the following email: muestradecinepalencia@gmail.com.
8. Those selected will be asked for a high-quality copy of the documentary short film for temporary hosting on the Fundos website. They will be required to send it before January 7, 2025.
9. If the microdocumentary is filmed in a language other than Spanish, it must have Spanish subtitles.
10. The authors are responsible for the legal use of third-party materials in the creation of the submitted works (music or any other type of resource).
11. All works submitted to the competition may be viewed through a special section created on CanalSaber.es and voted on within the time limits established in these rules on the FUNDOS YouTube Channel (@fundoscyl) that the FUNDOS organization will enable for this purpose.
12. The FUNDOS YouTube Channel (@fundoscyl) will be open for public voting from January 15 to February 3, 2025, both inclusive.
13. The organization reserves the right to disqualify from the competition those works about which there are doubts regarding the use of fraudulent practices to obtain votes (through the use of bot programs or systems to automate or semi-automate the voting processes or any other irregularities that alter the nature of the competition).
14. The jury's decision will be made on Friday, February 28, 2025. The presentation of the winners and the award ceremony will take place at the closing gala of the 34th Edition of the MCIP, which will be held at the Ortega Cinema in Palencia on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
15. Participants agree to the reproduction and dissemination of the short films or parts thereof for informational, educational or promotional purposes related to the Competition.
16. Awards. A jury formed by FUNDOS and the MCIP will view the works and, after assessing the different technical, narrative and interpretive aspects of the short films in the competition, will award the 'Microsaberes' Jury Prize for Best Microdocumentary, worth 2,000 euros. All the works submitted to the competition will also be eligible for the 'Microsaberes' Audience Prize for Best Microdocumentary, for which voting will be carried out through the YouTube channel that Canal Saber will have. The total number of “likes” received by each of the pieces in the competition will be counted as votes for this purpose. This prize awarded by the public will have a value of 1,000 euros. In this case, both prizes are compatible and cumulative.
17. The winning short films may be viewed in a movie theater at the closing session of the 34th edition of the MCIP.
18. All communication related to these rules can be found on the websites www.palenciamcip.com and www.canalsaber.es. All dissemination of these rules and other information will be carried out through the social networks of the MCIP, Canal Saber and FUNDOS. For any other information or queries: muestradecinepalencia@gmail.com.
19. The winning works grant the organization the right to project them —always for exclusively cultural and non-commercial purposes— throughout the year following the celebration of the Festival in the various extraordinary activities that are held outside the official week. These screenings will always be free to the public.
20. All works submitted to the competition may be viewed through a special section created on CanalSaber.es for four months from the awards ceremony.
21. The Jury and the organization reserve the right to modify the rules or declare the competition void if they deem it appropriate for justified reasons. Participation in the competition implies acceptance of all its rules.
