RULES GOVERNING THE 15th EDITION OF THE IBAFF – MURCIA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

FIRST. – Festival presentation, editorial line and purpose of the call

The Murcia International Film Festival Ibn Arabi International Film Festival (hereinafter, the IBAFF Festival) is an initiative of the City Council of Murcia, created in 2010, and named after the great Sufi thinker Ibn Arabi, philosopher, poet, and traveler born in Murcia in the 12th century.

These regulations are intended to govern the call for entries to the IBAFF Festival and the awards to be granted.

SECOND. – Awards

The awards to be granted in the 15th edition of the IBAFF Festival will be the following:

Official Section
Only films participating in this section will be eligible for cash prizes, which are as follows:

Best Feature Film in the Official Section: €10,000

Best Short Film in the Official Section: €6,000

Cash prizes may not be awarded ex-aequo, nor may they be shared.

The cash prizes will be paid by bank transfer, after deduction of the relevant taxes and withholdings in accordance with current legislation.

Special Mentions: the Jury may grant one single Special Mention per category.

2. Other Sections

Additionally, the IBAFF may grant the following recognitions, without financial remuneration:

Audience Award, granted to a work in the Official Selection. Murcian or predominantly Murcian productions that may participate in the Official Section are excluded from this award.

IBAFF Young Award, granted by a Jury composed of secondary or university students from the Region of Murcia.

Honorary Award, granted to a particularly relevant cultural or cinematographic figure or institution.

Arrebato Award, granted (if applicable) to a filmmaker, film, professional or institution related to the editorial line of the IBAFF Festival.

Panorama Murcia 1200 Award, granted to Murcian short films selected for this section.

THIRD. – Requirements for participating works

Films may be entered in the following categories, depending on their duration:

Feature Film: over 60 minutes.

Short Film: under 30 minutes.

Films between 30 and 60 minutes may also participate, but will be included in one or the other section at the discretion of the Selection Committee, which will inform the interested parties in advance.

The subject matter is free.

Films of all genres may participate (excluding advertising and corporate films).

Only films produced after January 1, 2024 may participate.

Films may be shot in any language. Regardless of the original language, all films must include Spanish subtitles.

FOURTH. – Assignment of screening rights

Screening rights of each work will be granted for its public exhibition during the IBAFF Festival and possible public preview screenings prior to the Festival.

Films selected for the official sections of the festival may be included in the “IBAFF Young” section, where a selection is shown to secondary school audiences in order to promote alternative cinema among new audiences. For this reason, the right to carry out a one-time streaming through the platform chosen by the Festival will be granted.

To promote the IBAFF Festival in the media, the Festival reserves the right to use excerpts of the works not exceeding 3 minutes.

All selected films must provide a copy for the IBAFF Festival audiovisual archive.

In the case of award-winning works, the IBAFF Festival also reserves the right to use them for non-profit promotional events, showcases, forums, festivals and other activities, with prior notice to the producers.

FIFTH. – Submission of works

Submission period
The submission period runs from September 26, 2025 to September 30, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.

Submission procedure
Participants must complete the online entry form available on the website festhome.es, included as Annex II to these regulations.

Submission is free of charge.

In the entry form, a private link and access key for viewing the film (Vimeo or other permanent link) must be provided. THE LINK MUST REMAIN ACTIVE UNTIL THE END OF THE IBAFF FESTIVAL.

SIXTH. – Selection

The Selection Committee will be composed of two members, appointed by the Murcia International Film Festival IBAFF.

The Committee may require candidates to provide additional information, correct deficiencies in the submitted documentation, or provide a copy of the work in its original format in order to assess whether the screening quality meets the festival’s requirements.

Selected Works
The Selection Committee will determine the works that will participate in the IBAFF Festival, to be held from October 10 to 18, 2025.

The selection will place special emphasis on works that combine radicality, formal rigor and narrative exploration beyond conventional cinematic forms.

The list of selected films for the 15th Edition will be announced at a press conference, together with the program and parallel activities, and/or published on the IBAFF Festival website.

Selected films may not be withdrawn from the IBAFF Festival program, nor may they be publicly screened in the Region of Murcia prior to their official presentation at the IBAFF Festival.

The Festival must also be provided with the necessary promotional materials (stills, synopsis, director’s notes, excerpts, and promotional poster). In addition, a copy of the film must be provided for exhibition in DCP, Blu-Ray, or digital file format.
