Ànima Jove, Festival Internacional de Curtmetratges d’Animació d’Altafulla is a festival dedicated to contemporary animation cinema, connecting international audiovisual creation with its local cultural context.

The festival showcases a selection of national and international animated short films that reflect the narrative, aesthetic and thematic diversity of contemporary animation.

Beyond film screenings, the festival creates a meeting space for audiences, filmmakers and industry professionals, and promotes activities related to education, cultural reflection and digital culture.

The festival takes place in Altafulla (Catalonia – Spain) and is part of a broader cultural project aimed at bringing contemporary animation to new audiences while strengthening the local creative ecosystem.

The 4th edition of the festival will take place from November 27 to November 29, 2026.

One Audience Award will be given in each section, accompanied by a certificate.

Ànima Jove, Festival Internacional de Curtmetratges d’Animació d’Altafulla is a festival dedicated to contemporary animation cinema, connecting international audiovisual creation with the local territory and fostering encounters between audiences, creators and industry professionals.

The 4th edition of the festival will take place from November 27 to November 29, 2026, in Altafulla (Catalonia, Spain).

The call for animation short films will be open from March 20 to June 10, 2026.

The festival features several official sections dedicated to contemporary animation, including student, national, and international fiction, documentary, children’s and youth sections, and horror night.

REGULATIONS ÀNIMA JOVE 2026

1. Introduction

Ànima Jove, Festival Internacional de Curtmetratges d’Animació d’Altafulla is a festival dedicated to contemporary animation cinema, aiming to give visibility to animation as an artistic language and to connect the local territory with international audiovisual creation.

Organized by the Ànima Jove Association, the festival creates a meeting space for audiences, creators and professionals in the field, and forms part of a broader cultural ecosystem that promotes initiatives related to animation, digital culture, training and professional development.

The 4th edition of the festival will take place from November 27 to November 29, 2026, in Altafulla (Catalonia, Spain).

2. Call for entries

The call for animation short films will be open from March 20 to June 10, 2026.

Submissions must be made exclusively through the Festhome platform.

Films may be submitted by directors, producers or distributors.

Each participant may submit an unlimited number of films, provided they comply with these guidelines.

Once the submission has been completed, the film may not be withdrawn from the competition.

3. Eligibility Requirements

Submitted films must meet the following conditions:

● Films must have been produced after July 1, 2024.
● Films must have a minimum duration of 2 minutes and a maximum duration of 15 minutes.
● Films must be primarily animated, with animation representing at least 75% of the total runtime.
● All animation techniques are accepted, including 2D, 3D, stop motion, experimental animation, or hybrid techniques.

The festival prioritizes works that explore the narrative, aesthetic and expressive possibilities of contemporary animation cinema.

4. Official Sections

Submitted films may be selected for the following official sections of the festival:

● Student Fiction: Short films created within educational contexts by students of film, animation or creative disciplines.
● National Fiction: Short films produced in Spain.
● International Fiction: Short films produced outside Spain.
● Documentary: Animated short films exploring stories based on real events, historical memory or social issues.
● Children’s Section: Short films aimed at children and family audiences (0–12 years old).
● Youth Section: Short films aimed at young and teenage audiences (12–16 years old).
● Horror Night: A special session dedicated to animated horror and fantasy short films.

The festival reserves the right to assign each film to the section it considers most appropriate within its program and also to reorganize, modify or cancel any of the official sections depending on programming needs or on the number and characteristics of the submitted films.

5. Selection

The official selection will be made by the festival’s programming team from among all submitted films.

Selected filmmakers will be notified by email.

Selected films must provide a high-definition digital screening copy (HD) in QuickTime or MP4 format.

6. Subtitles

Selected films must include English subtitles.

Subtitles must be provided in a separate .srt file, not embedded in the video file.

7. Awards

Audience Awards

The festival audience will vote for the films screened in each official section.

One Audience Award will be given in each section, accompanied by a certificate.

Jury Award

A professional jury will grant one single award among all films in the official selection.

Ànima Jove Jury Award

Prize: €200 and the festival trophy..

8. Jury Award Ceremony

The festival encourages the presence of filmmakers and film teams as part of its mission to create a meeting space between audiences and professionals.

To receive the Ànima Jove Jury Award, at least one representative of the winning film must be present at the festival in the case of national productions. The festival will provide accommodation for this representative during the festival.

If no representative of the winning film is present at the closing ceremony, the jury will decide a new winning film.

If the winning film is international, the festival will also invite one representative of the film. If this person is unable to attend, the festival will send the trophy to the film’s representative.

In this case, the festival will request a short video message from the winner, which may be screened during the festival.

9. Use of Artificial Intelligence

Films that use artificial intelligence tools in their creative process may be accepted provided that these technologies are used only as an auxiliary tool within the creative process.

Films generated primarily through artificial intelligence systems will not be accepted.

Participants must declare the use of artificial intelligence tools at any stage of the project (scriptwriting, image creation, animation, voice or post-production) during the submission process.

The organization reserves the right to evaluate the nature of this use during the selection process and may disqualify the film if the nature of such use is unclear or does not comply with these guidelines.

10. Screening Rights

By submitting a film, participants authorize the screening of selected films during the festival and in activities related to it.

Participation in the festival does not imply payment of screening fees.

Films may also be included in cultural outreach programs associated with the festival, such as the traveling screenings of Ànima en ruta, always for non-commercial cultural purposes.

The festival will inform the rights holders in advance of any screenings related to these programs.

11. Promotion

Participants authorize the use of images, excerpts and promotional materials from the selected films for the festival’s communication and promotional activities.

Such use will be exclusively for informational and promotional purposes related to the festival.

12. Copyright Responsibility

The person or entity submitting the film declares that they hold all necessary rights to the images, music and other materials included in the film.

The festival assumes no responsibility for claims related to copyright infringement.

13. Acceptance of Regulations

Submitting a film to the festival implies full acceptance of these rules and regulations.

The festival organization reserves the right to interpret and resolve any situation not covered by these guidelines.
