XIII CortoGijón Festival

The Gijón Short Film Festival arises in 2015 as a parallel section within the Aula 18 National Short Film Contest in the delivery After the disappearance of emblematic festival three of the programmers decide to maintain their essence by transferring the festival to Gijón. It is in the second edition that of 2016, where the festival moves to the municipal centers of the city to develop a festival with an eye on short films and music. Names like Marilia, Pablo Und Destruktion, Marem Ladson, Tiger and Diamond, David Feito… confirm the high level musical that lives the festival and its local and regional look.

In 2020 Laboral City of Culture joins with a new screen inside CortoGijón thus amplifying collaborations between all cultural entities in the region started in 2017 with the Mirada Ficx section in collaboration with the Gijón Film Festival.

RULES AND REGULATIONS: 13th CortoGijón Festival 2027

1. Validity.These rules and regulations apply to all participants in the CortoGijón Festival 2027, which will take place from Friday, 26 February to Saturday, 5 March 2027.

2. Submissions
•Submission period opens: 2 October 2026.
•Deadline for submitting films: 22 January 2027.

3. Eligibility
•Each filmmaker may submit an unlimited number of films.
•Films must have been completed after 1 January 2026 and must not exceed 30 minutes in length.
•Films submitted to the Documentary Section, Official Section and Conexiones Section must not have previously premiered or been publicly screened in Asturias.

4. Originality and Rights
•All submitted works must be original.
•Participants guarantee that they own the necessary intellectual property rights or have obtained the appropriate authorisation from the relevant rights holders.
•Participants also guarantee that they have obtained the necessary image rights and permissions from all persons appearing in the submitted works.

5. Legal Responsibility
•The participant submitting the work shall be solely responsible for any breach relating to authorship or intellectual property rights.
•The Festival organisation shall not be liable for any legal disputes relating to the authorship or rights of the submitted works.

6. Ineligible Works
•Works that have participated in previous editions of the CortoGijón Festival will not be accepted.

7. Festival Sections
7.1. Official Section: National competition for fiction short films.
7.2. Documentary Section: National competition for documentary short films.
7.3. Asturias Section: Competition for short films made by Asturian filmmakers.*
7.4. Muestrona: Section for emerging Asturian filmmakers.
7.5. Conexiones: Showcase of Ibero-American short films.

* Asturian filmmakers are defined as filmmakers born in Asturias or who have been resident in Asturias for more than four years.

8. Awards
8.1. Official Section Award: €500
8.2. Documentary Section Award: €500
8.3. Best Asturian Short Film Award: €500
8.4. Best Muestrona Short Film Award: €300
8.5. Awards will be paid by bank transfer within a maximum period of six months following the awards ceremony.

9. Submission of Films
•Films may be submitted exclusively through Festhome.

10. Selection Notification
•Selected filmmakers will be notified by email two weeks before the beginning of the Festival.
•Selected filmmakers will be required to provide a digital screening copy of the film, as well as the necessary promotional materials.
•Spanish subtitles will be required when the original language of the film is not Spanish.

11. Content of the Films
•The Festival organisation reserves the right to determine whether any content may contravene applicable regulations or the conditions of exhibition.
•The organisation reserves the right to exclude films that do not comply with these rules, fail to meet the required submission formats, or exceed the maximum permitted running time.
•If a selected film fails to provide the required screening copy or ultimately fails to meet the eligibility requirements, the Festival may request that the film be withdrawn from the programme.

12. Archiving and Use of Films
12.1. Submitted films will be archived by the Festival and may be used for non-commercial purposes.
12.2. The decision of the jury shall be final and not subject to appeal.

13. Reproduction and Promotional Rights
Participants grant the Festival the right to reproduce all or part of their films for promotional, non-commercial purposes.
Films may be included in activities associated with the Festival, such as:

Hornada de Cortos.
Puertas Film Festival.
MUSOC.

14. Acceptance of the Rules
Submission of a film implies full acceptance of these rules and regulations.

15. Amendments
The Festival organisation reserves the right to amend these rules. Any amendment will be published through the same communication channels and, in particular, will not affect rights already acquired or substantially alter the conditions of participation once the submission deadline has closed, except where justified by exceptional circumstances.
