The Festival of Otherness provides space for authors’ voices that express their perspective on a world that could be.

Inclusion, sustainability, and youth are the transversal focus of the festival, with the aim of developing spaces that encourage critical thinking, dialogue, and community participation, while caring for the cultural and environmental context we inhabit.
The call will be open from March 16 to June 12, 2026.

Who are we calling?:

We invite production companies, distributors, filmmakers, students, collectives, emerging creators, and visual artists, especially young people from Mexico and around the world, to submit their works to the 2026 national and international short film competition.

Awards:

The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, August 29, 2026. Winners in each category will receive:

• A surprise prize from the festival sponsors.

• An official FICOT 2026 statuette*

• Digital recognition and official laurels.

Competition Categories:

• Mexican Short Film
• International Short Film
• Mexican and International Animated Short Film
• “Guanajuato is Cinema” Short Film
• Experimental Short Film/Music Video

Submission guidelines:

* Registration is free for Mexican categories and will be carried out via FestHome.

* All short films completed from January 2024 onwards are eligible

* All techniques and genres are accepted

* The short film must not exceed 20 minutes in duration

* The short film may have been screened at other festivals

* Works must include Spanish subtitles if the original language is different

* Applicants must hold all exhibition rights for their work


Process and selection:

* Submissions will be evaluated by a jury with experience in film, culture, and education

* The Official Selection will be announced on August 3, 2026, on our social media and website

* Selected works will be screened during the festival in physical venues and digital platforms

* Selected directors may participate in Q&A sessions within the framework of the festival


General conditions:

By submitting, participants accept these guidelines and authorize the screening of their short film within the festival. FICOT reserves the right to program works out of competition.
