The Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival (hereinafter Yubari Fanta) is held in Yubari, Hokkaido, and is organized and managed by the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival Executive Committee.
This film festival focuses on science fiction, horror, fantasy, adventure, action, thriller, animation, and other fantastic films rich in imagination and entertainment.
The purpose of Yubari Fanta is to provide a space for citizens, filmmakers, and audiences to connect and interact, discovering and nurturing new talent, promoting cultural exchange, and fostering mutual understanding between countries worldwide through cinema.
1. The organizers will award trophies to outstanding works selected by the Fantastic Yubari Competition Jury from among the nominated works.
2. The organizers will award trophies to the outstanding works selected by the International Short Film Competition Jury from the nominated works.
3. The organizers will award trophies to the outstanding works selected by the Animation and AI Competition Jury from among the nominated works.

The Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival Volunteer Group (hereinafter referred to as the "Volunteer Group") has established the following application terms and conditions for the competition to be held at the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival 2025 (hereinafter referred to as the "Film Festival").

Objectives:
To strengthen ties with the local community while preserving the essence of the film festival, to hold an international competition, to award outstanding works and outstanding filmmakers, and to nurture the talent of the future film industry.
Application RequirementsWorks
are being accepted in the Fantastic Yubari Competition Division (feature film division including foreign and Japanese works), the International Short Film Competition Division (short film division including foreign and Japanese works), and the Animation/AI Competition Division (foreign and Japanese works).
*Works over 60 minutes in length will be placed in the feature film division, and works under 30 minutes in length will be placed in the short film division (there is no distinction between long and short films in the Animation/AI Division).
1. Fantastic Yubari Competition (Works over 60 minutes long)
The saved format must be mp4 (H.264) data (submission of digital screening materials is required when nominating).
24p, 30p, interlace OK
The data volume of the work must be within 25GB (bitrate is at your discretion).
The work must be completed on or after January 1, 2024.
The film must not have been submitted to this festival before.
This is the film's Japan premiere, and its first screening in Japan will be at the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival.
2. International Short Film Competition (films under 30 minutes long)
The saved format must be mp4 (H.264) data (submission of digital screening materials is required when nominating).
24p, 30p, interlace OK
The data volume of the work must be within 25GB (bitrate is at your discretion).
The work must be completed on or after January 1, 2024.
The film must not have been submitted to this festival before.
This is the film's Japan premiere, and its first screening in Japan will be at the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival.
3. Animation/AI Competition
The saved format must be mp4 (H.264) data (submission of digital screening materials is required when nominating).
24p, 30p, interlace OK
The data volume of the work must be within 25GB (bitrate is at your discretion).
The work must be completed on or after January 1, 2024.
The film must not have been submitted to this festival before.
This is the film's Japan premiere, and its first screening in Japan will be at the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival.
If any doubt arises as to whether the above conditions are met, the final decision will be made by a volunteer group.
Judging and Announcement
1. Nomination Selection Committee
The selection committee appointed by the Volunteer Group will select works worthy of being nominated from among the submitted works. After the nominees have been decided, the applicants of the works will be notified promptly, and the results will be officially announced at a press conference hosted by the Volunteer Group (scheduled for September 2025).
*The results of the selection will be notified only to applicants who have passed the nomination selection committee by the end of August 2025.
2. Final Judging
The judging committee, consisting of judges appointed by the Volunteer Association, will select the works that qualify for each award from among the nominated works. The final judging results (announcement of each award) will be announced at the awards ceremony.
Prize
1. The organizers will award trophies to outstanding works selected by the Fantastic Yubari Competition Jury from among the nominated works.
2. The organizers will award trophies to the outstanding works selected by the International Short Film Competition Jury from the nominated works.
3. The organizers will award trophies to the outstanding works selected by the Animation and AI Competition Jury from among the nominated works.
Entry acceptance starts: March 10th
1. Variable
entry fee system (early bird discount) *The following prices include tax.
For submissions by April 10th, the fee is 5,500 yen/$36 for feature films, 4,400 yen/$29 for short films and animations (deadline for submission of work materials is April 10th)
For submissions by May 10th, feature films will cost 7,700 yen/$50, short films and animations will cost 6,600 yen/$43 (submission deadline for work materials is May 10th)
If submitted by June 10th, feature films will cost 9,900 yen/$64, short films and animations will cost 8,800 yen/$57 (deadline for submitting work materials is June 10th)
*The condition is that the submission of the work materials has been completed.
If the work materials have not been submitted by the deadline, the entry will be invalid. Please note that we will not be able to refund your entry. Please note that cancellations are not possible after the entry fee has been paid.
2. Application materials for judging
a. Entry form
We will send an entry form to all applicants by email. Please fill in the necessary information on the entry form and submit it. However, applications for overseas films must be submitted via the external site Festhome (online).
b. Work materials
Please enter the URL of the online screener (limited release on Vimeo or YouTube) in the entry form. If the language is other than Japanese, please submit the screener with english or Japanese subtitles and the text data of the work (dialogue) in Word.
3. Return of materials
As a general rule, submitted materials will not be returned. Materials will be deleted and destroyed immediately after the end of the film festival.
4. Rights Processing
Please make sure that all rights, including music copyright, video copyright, and other rights, are cleared before submitting your work. If these rights are not cleared, the festival and its volunteers will not be held responsible for any disputes that may arise as a result.
5. Screenings outside of the Competition
Films that were not nominated for the Competition may be screened at special screenings related to the festival. In such cases, the secretariat will contact you separately.
If the film is selected as a nominee (officially screened film)
1. Submission of materials
Applicants whose works have been nominated must submit the following materials a, b, c to the festival secretariat.
Digital mp4 (H.264) for screening, either 24P or 30P interlaced material OK (bit rate is up to you. Data capacity 25GB or less). Upload data via Gigafile (please consult if Gigafile is not possible)

2. subtitles
In principle, we encourage exhibitors to provide subtitles. (If the language is english, Japanese subtitles will be provided, if the language is Japanese, english subtitles will be provided, otherwise Japanese and english subtitles will be provided.) If you are unable to do so, please consult with the organizers.
3. Regarding poster display and flyer distribution,
there will be a display area set up at the venue. Please carry out these activities yourself.
Things to Know
Applicants for the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival 2025 competition are deemed to have fully understood and accepted all of the entry terms and conditions. If any information provided on the entry form is false or contains significant errors, the submission may be excluded from nomination and the secretariat may charge for any expenses incurred.
