The Culture Department of the Guadalcanal City Council (Seville) announces the V Edition of the GUADALCANAL EN CORTO Short Film Festival 'Smile, please', which will be held from October 26 to 28, 2023.

The contest will award the following prizes in the "Classic" mode:

● Guadalcanal Short Film Award “Sonría por favor” for the best short film endowed with a statuette and €1,000.

● Guadalcanal Short Film Award “Sonría por favor” for the second best short film with a statuette and €500.

● Canal Sur Radio y Televisión Award for Andalusian audiovisual creation, symbolized by the bronze statuette “El dilema”, which will be viewed on public television Andalusian, according to the agreement signed with the winner. It will also have a prize of €300 and a statuette from the Guadalcanal City Council.

● Award for Best Animated Short with a statuette and €500.

● Audience Award for the best short film voted by the audience, endowed with a statuette and €200.

● Best Female Performance Mention endowed with a statuette.

● Best Male Performance Mention endowed with a statuette.


1. The theme of the Guadalcanal en Corto festival is comedy and animation. All short films must be of Spanish nationality, except for animated ones, which may be international as long as they are subtitled in Spanish.

2. The short films can be silent or with incorporated sound, being Spanish the language
used. Short films in a language other than Spanish must contain Mandatory subtitles in Spanish.

3. The organization assumes that the owners of the short films presented hold all the rights of exhibition and promotion of the works and material they represent, and declines any responsibility regarding the infringement of this rule.

4. The Jury will be made up of a group of people decided by the organization; their verdict will be final, being able to leave the award void if they consider it appropriate and decide on any doubt not provided for in the bases.

5. The decisions of both the Selection Committee and the Official Jury will be final.

6. The organization reserves the right to reject a work due to poor image and/or sound quality.

7. The short films presented may not have been presented in previous editions of this same festival.

8. The short films presented cannot be related to any organizing or jury member of the event.

9. The short films that are selected in the V Guadalcanal Short Film Competition may be exhibited within the cultural and non-profit activities organized by the Culture Department of the Guadalcanal City Council, such as, for example,
the presentation of future festivals and the exhibition of the finalist shorts in neighboring towns.

10. The Guadalcanal Short Film Competition will take place from October 26 to 28, 2023 with the screening of the selected short films, in public and free sessions that will take place in the Cinema – Municipal Theater of Guadalcanal.

In this fifth celebration of the festival, two modalities of presentation to the event are carried out, the classic modality and the Guadalcanal modality.

The participation details of each option are explained below.

SHORT 'Smile, please', to be held from October 26 to 28,

A. The characteristics of the short films must comply with point 1 and 2 of these bases.
In addition, the completion date of the short film must be after January 1, 2022.

B. The duration of the short films may not exceed 20 minutes including the credits.

C. Participation in the short film festival is open to all filmmakers over 18 years of age, both individually and collectively, provided they have Spanish nationality.

D. The deadline for delivery of works begins on May 10, 2023 and ends on July 31, 2023 (both inclusive).

E. Short films may be sent through the following means:
● Distribution platforms: Festhome
● Ordinary mail or courier, sending the material to the following address:
Guadalcanal City Council Area of ​​Culture IV Guadalcanal Contest in Short.
Plaza de España, 1 - 41390 Guadalcanal (Seville)
Delivery at the Guadalcanal Town Hall Registry, from 09:00 to 13:00 hours from Monday to Friday in a sealed envelope that, in addition to the work, will contain the data referred to in point F.

F. In all shipments, the data of the author/s, a photocopy of the DNI or similar will be clearly stated; technical sheet, filmography of the author, the poster of the short film and a brief synopsis of it.
Send in digital format or through the aforementioned Distribution Platforms.

G. The organization will make a prior selection. Once this is finished, the authors will be notified and they must send a screening copy of the selected short films together with a trailer or teaser of the same that must be sent before September 7, 2023 by Wetransfer or other platforms to for screening in the official section.

H. The obligatory presentation formats will be: .MPEG or .MP4. .MOV (H264 compression)
and in 48khz 16 bit audio.
