Originating as a competitive forum for student films, it is now a recognized platform for expression of both young artists and experienced professionals. Among the oldest in the Balkans, it is the only professional short film festival in Bulgaria.

IN THE PALACE ISFF is a Goya Awards qualifying festival and an Academy Awards®/OSCAR® qualifying festival for shorts in the categories of Best Animation, Best Fiction, Best Documentary, and Best National Film. The Viña del Mar International Film Festival
is a municipal event that dates back to 1963. It is the oldest in the country and the second oldest in Latin America.

It was founded as an initiative of filmmaker and physician Aldo Francia and the Viña del Mar Film Club. It was the birthplace of the New Latin American Cinema and the New Chilean Cinema.
