Filhos da Curta, an initiative of the Teatro Amador de Sandim that aims to promote Portuguese Independent Cinema in the short film format, regardless of genre. The festival aims to give an opportunity to new filmmakers to show their works and meet colleagues from the seventh art.

The Festival will take place on May 24, 2025, at the Teatro Amador de Sandim, in Vila Nova de Gaia, as part of FEST'ARTE 2025.

REGULAMENTO FILHOS DA CURTA 2025 [FILHOS DA CURTA 2025 REGULATIONS]

1 - Introduction

1.1 - Filhos da Curta will take place on May 24, 2025, at the Teatro Amador de Sandim, in Sandim, Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal.

1.2 - Filhos da Curta is organized by the Teatro Amador de Sandim (TAS), based at Rua Teatro Amador 202, Sandim, Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, as part of FEST’ARTE 2025.

1.3 - Filhos da Curta has as its main objectives:

● To promote national independent cinematographic production;

● To promote the exchange of experiences among the festival participants;

● To offer a quality cultural initiative accessible to everyone.

2 - Dates and Deadlines

2.1 - Applications will be admitted between January 24, 2025, and April 24, 2025.

2.2 - All submitted viewing links/screeners must be available until May 24, 2025.

2.3 - Selected participants will be notified by May 1, 2025, by email or telephone.

2.4 - The selected short films will be screened a single time at the Filhos da Curta Festival, in a session to take place on May 24, 2025.

2.5 - The awards will be delivered on May 24, 2025, immediately after the screening. If the winner or representative is not present, Filhos da Curta will subsequently get in touch to send the award by December 31, 2025.

3 - Eligibility

3.1 - Short films with a maximum duration of 15 minutes.

3.2 - Each director can submit more than one short film, however only one short film will be selected per director.

3.3 - Short films in competition completed after January 1, 2022 (inclusive).

3.4 - We accept works of fiction, animation, documentary, and non-narrative experimental cinema.

3.5 - Presence at the festival will not be a mandatory factor, but it will be preferred.

3.6 - Submissions to the festival do not discriminate against themes, genres, ethnicities, religions and/or will not have any limitation beyond those mentioned in the previous points. All submissions will be evaluated with the same rigor and dedication.

3.6 - Submissions that do not comply with these requirements will be automatically considered invalid and the Organization reserves the right not to communicate the disqualification to the candidate.

4 - Submissions

4.1 - Participants must fill out the following form to make the submission:

4.2 - The deadline for sending the film, exhibition and promotional materials will be notified by email.

4.3 - Problems with submissions must be communicated to the email: filhosdacurtatas@gmail.com

5 - Jury / Awards

5.1 - Filhos da Curta will have a single short film competition.

5.2 - After the screening, two awards will be attributed - “Best Short Film” and “Audience Award”.

5.3 - Immediately after the screening of the films, voting ballots will be distributed in order to decide the “Audience Award”.

5.4 - Immediately after the screening of the films, the jury will select the winner of the “Best Short Film” award.

5.5 - The jury will be revealed on a date to be defined by the organization.

5.6 - The jury has the right to attribute honorary awards or not to award any film, if it judges that they do not fulfill the necessary requirements.

5.7 - The jury is sovereign and will take into consideration originality, sound, image, photography, direction, and acting.

6 - Rights

6.1 - The participant agrees to grant authorization for the use of any image and sound with a duration of 1 minute for the promotion of any edition of Filhos da Curta.

6.2 - Filhos da Curta will not cover costs related to exhibition rights, nor fees associated with the films in competition.

6.3 - The participant agrees to authorize the screening of the short film in competition on the date of the festival.

6.4 - It is the responsibility of the holder of the film rights to ensure that their work complies with all legal requirements when it includes third-party intellectual property.

6.5 - The participant agrees with all the points mentioned above.
