The 8th Gässli Film Festival is around the corner! Send us your short film or music video for consideration to present it in our unique open-air venue. Besides having your film screened you will meet industry professionals and might pick up one of the prizes worth 5'000 Swiss Francs!

2016 Terms and Conditions
1. Terms of use Agreement
This Terms of Use Agreement ("Agreement") sets forth the legally binding conditions for the
use of services (“Services”) of Gässli Film Festival (“GFF”) as herein defined. Agreement
constitutes the entire and only legal document between you (“Filmmaker”) and GFF, and
supersedes all prior or contemporaneous agreements, representations, warranties and
understandings with respect to Services provided by GFF and the subject matter of this
Agreement. Filmmaker agrees to abide by all applicable laws and the hereafter stated terms
and conditions by checking the appropriate box on the submission form (“Effective Date”).
Please read the Agreement carefully and print it for your records.
2. Festival Information
GFF is an annual film festival competition that takes place in Basel, Switzerland. Filmmaker
can submit one or multiple short films for consideration to be presented at GFF. A jury will vote on all competing movies and determine the annual winners.
3. Services
Upon acceptance into the GFF competition, Filmmaker must agree to the following:
a) Festival attendance: GFF requires selected Filmmaker to attend all key festival
events directly related to Filmmaker’s work. 2016 key dates are:
• THR 1. Sept. 18:00 – Festival Opening & Music videos premiere
• FRI 2. Sept. 12:00 – Filmmaker lunch
• FRI 2. Sept. 18:00 – Best of Switzerland premiere
• SAT 3. Sept 18:00 – Awards night
Additional events will be communicated prior to the festival. International
submissions are encouraged to attend GFF but can be exempted, due to high
travel cost.
b) Screening master: Filmmaker is required to send any missing deliverable items
including a screening master in high definition video no later than seven (7) days
after selection.
c) Filmmaker introduction video: Filmmaker is required to submit a short introduction
video of no longer than 15 seconds. For samples click here.
d) Basel relation: Some competitions will require a direct relation of Filmmaker’s work
to the region of Basel. In order to qualify, filmmaker is required to indicate such
relation when filling out the submission form and may as well state it in Filmmaker’s introduction video. The following “Basel relation” are accepted by GFF:
• Filmmaker’s place of residence or place of origin in the Basel region
• Filmmaker’s work was filmed in the Basel region
• Filmmaker’s work subject matter deals with the Basel region
• Cast featured in a key role holds residence or place of origin in the Basel region
• Key crew’s residence or place of origin (Director, Writer, Producer or
Production company, Cinematographer and Animator) is in the Basel
region
• Previous prize winner of GFF
• Other well documented reason presented to GFF upon submission
If GFF is held with an official partner region, Filmmakers from such region will
automatically also qualify for all awards that require a “Basel relation”. In 2016 there is no official partner region at GFF.
4. Film Submission
Filmmaker can enter his or her film during GFF call-for-entries period using the submission
form on baselfilmfestival.ch. Postmarked deadlines and corresponding submission fees are listed on the official GFF website. The 2016 submission deadline is July 11. Per submission
Filmmaker is required to pay an administrative fee of twenty (20) Swiss Francs.
All expenses for shipping the screener copy and materials including insurance are the sole
responsibility of Filmmaker. GFF will not return screener copies. Note that GFF will not pay for
any cost arising from returning screeners under no circumstances.
Failure to pay the fee will automatically disqualify film submission.
5. Selection for the Competition
GFF programmers select and invite Filmmaker to participate in the festival’s competitions. Film submissions qualify after the following materials have been received:
a) Completed submission from / acceptance of terms and conditions
b) Screener copy of film, clearly labeled and postmarked by deadline
c) Submission fee payment
d) Introduction video, no longer than 15 seconds, as defined above
e) Other supporting materials listed on the submission form
Further requirements are:
a) Film must be less than twenty (20) minutes of length.
b) Film must be submitted with a link to the film’s online screener / download or as a
QuickTime File burnt on DVD-/+R. If for any reason the screener can’t be viewed,
Filmmaker will be required to resubmit.
c) Film must be available in the English language (original, subtitled, dubbed) if
requested by GFF. All cost to meet such deliverable is to be met by Filmmaker.
6. Notification
GFF will notify Filmmaker by email upon acceptance. Films will be in consideration until
Filmmaker receives an email stating that it has been accepted.
Upon notification of acceptance and within seven (7) days, Filmmaker agrees to submit further information if necessary to program his or her movie for the GFF.
Failure to do so by the given deadline may result in the loss of Filmmaker’s spot in the GFF
competition. Expenses for the shipping of the exhibition master, including insurance, is the sole responsibility of Filmmaker. GFF cannot be made liable for any loss or damage.
The lowest quality screening format at GFF is a Quicktime File in HD-Quality. For optimal
compatibility, make sure to export your film accordingly or contact the festival office.
7. Festival Jury & Awards
GFF will appoint a jury (“Jury”) with a minimum of three (3) members who have professional
knowledge of film, the arts or related media. Each member will vote by secret ballot and
discuss the final winners before awarding the prizes. GFF staff may attend Jury deliberations
for advisory purposes but is not able to vote.
Decisions are final and won’t be commented on.
Jury is obliged to award the following awards:
1. Gässli Grand Prize Award*
2. Gässli Up-and-coming Filmmaker Award*
3. Gässli Best of Switzerland Award
4. Gässli Best Music Video Award
* Basel relation necessary to win (as defined above)
The Gässli Social Media Audience Choice Award may be given to any of the film in
competition. The winner of the Gässli Social Media Audience Choice Award will be determined by SMS voting and announced at the GFF awards night. It is a final announcement and may not be renegotiated by Filmmaker.
Revenue, if any, generated by the audience voting procedure will not be shared with Filmmaker.
Should GFF detect manipulation attempts in the voting procedure, cases will be investigated.
Filmmaker may disqualify from obtaining their awards.
8. Prizes
GFF will provide the winners with the following prizes:
1. Gässli Grand Prize Award consists of a cash payment in the amount of CHF 1,000.-
paid to the winner using his or her provided, valid, bank connection.
2. Gässli Up-and-coming Filmmaker Award consists of a Canon 80D camera and a
voucher worth CHF 500.- from Kulturbüro Basel.
3. Gässli Best of Switzerland Award consists of a cash payment in the amount of CHF
1,000.- paid to the winner using his or her provided, valid, bank connection.
4. Gässli Best Music Video Award consists of a cash payment in the amount of CHF
500.- paid to the winner using his or her provided, valid, bank connection.
5. Gässli Social Media Audience Choice Award consists of a cash payment in the amount
of CHF 500.- paid to the winner using his or her provided, valid, bank connection.
Filmmaker must be present at the awards night in order to win or contact GFF no later than two weeks prior to the awards night, in writing, to request sending a representative to receive the awards. Severe Illness and force majeure override time requirement above but a
representative is still required to be present in order to win.
9. Rights
Filmmaker must be the sole owner of all rights, title and interest in and to the submitted film
and have secured all rights in the chain of titles; He or she needs to have the exclusive,
unconditional right and authority to submit their film to GFF, and guarantee that no third party is entitled to any payment or other consideration of behalf of the film. Filmmaker also warrants and represents that whatever intellectual property including music and/or trademarks currently contained in the film and not original to the production has secured permission to use.
Filmmaker agrees that his or her film may be exhibited throughout the universe in public,
copied, screened, publicly released, transmitted, displayed, streamed, distributed, or translated the whole or a part of the submitted work, any captured scene, footage or title thereof, or any personal information of the applicant to the extent required for its operation and public relation activities through any an all media as indicated on the submission form. Any use of the work for commercial purpose, such as paid distribution will be separately discussed and agreed upon.
Commencing on the Effective Date of this Agreement, Filmmaker hereby grants to GFF the complete, unencumbered, non-exclusive world-wide and perpetual right to to upload,
download, edit for promotional use only, display, and adopt digital images, of the Filmmaker’s content existing on the Effective Date or created thereafter, and to include, incorporate, display, broadcast and exploit such content and images of the content, in and on GFF and future networks, marketing and advertising in any media now known or hereafter devised. In addition to such rights, the Filmmaker hereby grants GFF:
a) the perpetual non-exclusive, royalty free, world-wide license to use and publish
Artist/Licensor’s name (including any professional name heretofore or hereinafter
adopted by Filmmaker), likeness, biographical material, and interviews in full or as
edited or excerpted or any reproductions or simulation thereof on the GFF
network, or in any publication, demonstration, marketing and advertising in order to
promote and advertise the content and/or develop any brand name associated
with Filmmaker, and screenshot of the movie.
b) the perpetual non-exclusive, royalty free, world-wide license, but not the obligation,
to assert, and to defend against any actual or threatened infringement of the
content, and copyrights and/or trademarks related thereto or associated therewith.
This Agreement shall be binding on any successors, licensees, parent companies,
subsidiaries, or corporate entities subsequently created by GFF and/or its principals.
10. Compilations
GFF reserves the right to compile selected short films on DVD or any media known / invented hereafter for the goal to promote the festival and/or fundraise for festival operations. GFF also reserves the right to grant members of the association access to selected short films after GFF as part of the membership benefit package. An additional agreement with Filmmaker must be entered into, should other opportunities present themselves, especially if they are of profitable nature.
11. Advertising
GFF maintains the sole right to engage in any form and type of advertising and sponsoring
deals that stand in connection with the selected films and the festival. Advertising is fundraising and guarantees the operations of GFF. Filmmaker is not entitled to participation nor is he or she part of any decision-making in that matter unless revenue is generated with direct ties to filmmaker’s movie.
Filmmaker may forward a sponsor to be tied in with his or her film. GFF will evaluate a possible
collaboration on a case by case basis. Further documents regulating such endeavors are
required to proceed.
Filmmaker gives GFF permission to use Trailer and short segments of the film as well as any
information submitted through the entry form and press kit for promotional purposes without
any limitation in time throughout the universe.
12. Privacy Policy
GFF respects Filmmaker’s privacy and the use and protection of personal Information. For

13. Dispute
Any dispute about or involving the Services of GFF either party may demand that any dispute
arising out of this Agreement must be settled by arbitration. Place of jurisdiction is Basel,
Switzerland.
14. Indemnification
Filmmaker agrees to indemnify and hold GFF, its subsidiaries, and affiliates, and their
respective officers, agents, partners and employees, harmless from any loss, liability, claim, or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, made by any third party due to or arising out of your use of the Services in violation of this Agreement and/or arising from a breach of this Agreement and/or any breach of your representations and warranties set forth above to be liable to another.
15. Limitation on Liability
In no event shall GFF be liable to Filmmaker or any third party for any indirect, consequential,
exemplary, incidental, special or punitive damages, including lost profit damages arising from Filmmaker’s use of Services, even if GFF has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained herein, GFF’s liability to Filmmaker for any cause whatsoever and regardless of the form of the action, will at all times be limited to the amount paid, if any, by Filmmaker to GFF for Services.
