Festival start: 02 September 2026      Festival end: 06 September 2026

The 10th Kunta Kinte Afro Community International Film Festival will take place from September 2 to 6, 2026, in the city of Medellín, Colombia. This year, the central theme of the festival is: "Resistance and creativity of Afro-descendant peoples".

We invite filmmakers to submit their films, documentaries, and short films addressing aspects of the African diaspora, such as the history of slavery, global Afro-descendant culture, the struggle for civil rights, migration experiences, and the influence of African heritage in various cultural expressions. Through cinema, we seek to rescue and value the stories of resistance, resilience, and creativity that have defined the Afro-descendant experience.

Every submission received will be thoroughly reviewed by our curatorial team.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS: 10th KUNTA KINTE AFRO COMMUNITY INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (FICCA KUNTA KINTE 2026)

Our 10th FICCA Kunta Kinte will take place from September 2 to September 6, 2026, offering five days of Afro film and audiovisual content in person and free of charge. The programming will be diverse, covering all ages and themes, with the goal of bringing the entire population closer to an audiovisual culture with identity. The festival will incorporate digital tools and strengthen cultural and academic offerings, primarily for the Afro-descendant population of Colombia. By innovating and bringing digital technology closer to audiences, the event will foster interaction among Afro-descendant filmmakers, photographers, producers, and artists with the public. Our festival is guided by the policy and philosophy of exhibiting, promoting, and cultivating the cinematographic and audiovisual work of Afro-descendant filmmakers and producers.

The 10th FICCA Kunta Kinte, which has been conceived and built to be held during the first week of September, will address the theme “Ways of Inhabiting Territories.” It is essential to inform the participating productions that the festival format will include screenings, panel discussions, and training activities, all conducted in person. Furthermore, the festival will guarantee screening freedom, allowing for wide dissemination and visibility of the submitted works.

1. The screening of short films, feature films, and movies can be viewed in person at various spaces in the city of
Medellín and, if applicable, other locations in Colombia.

2. The availability of the film will be exclusively for the duration of the festival, within a schedule designed and programmed by the festival's production and coordination team.

3. Film submission in any category is free of charge.

4. Nationality of the works: Both Colombian and foreign works, as well as co-productions, may submit to the official selection. There will be no limit on the number of productions submitted per country.

5. National Afro Cinema Selection: All productions with Afro, Black, Palenquera, and Raizal themes produced and directed within Colombian territory are invited to participate in the national selection.

6. Productions completed from January 1, 2020, until the closing date of this call for entries will be accepted.

In accordance with one of the objectives of the 10th FICCA Kunta Kinte—using memory and audiovisual work as tools that contribute to education in our communities—the team reserves the right to consider restored audiovisual pieces produced prior to October 2010 for their historical memory value.

7. Language and subtitling: Submitted works must be subtitled in Spanish; if the works are subtitled in another language, they must also include Spanish subtitles. Additionally, productions for the children's selection must be dubbed into Spanish.

8. Submission form: Regardless of the method chosen to submit a work, its official formalization requires completing the designated form for this purpose.

9. Email:

10. fickuntakinte@gmail.com

11. Each year, the festival develops, participates in, and promotes a series of local, regional, national, and international showcases. In the event that your work is selected for these traveling screenings, you will be informed in advance.

12. Each participant may submit up to two (2)
audiovisual productions in each category.

13. The duration of the submitted productions must be a maximum of 59 minutes for short films and a minimum of 60 minutes for feature films.

14. IMPORTANT: PRODUCTIONS WITHOUT A SIGNED SUBMISSION FORM WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

15. SUBMISSION METHODS:

* Digital platforms: Currently, the festival receives cinematographic and audiovisual works through the Festhome digital platform.

1. The submitted materials will become part of the archive of the CARABANTÚ Afro-Colombian Corporation for Social and Cultural Development. By sending their works, participants accept the conditions of the CARABANTÚ Afro-Colombian Corporation for Social and Cultural Development, which may make non-commercial use of the materials in activities that the organization conducts within its educational and artistic objectives.

2. All activities carried out by the CARABANTÚ Afro-Colombian Corporation for Social and Cultural Development are free and open to the public. The team consists of individuals who believe in the process and, through voluntary community work, contribute to growing and providing the best to our communities. Finally, please remember:

* The submission form, the film, and the bio-filmography (including a photograph of the director, synopsis, still photos, contact details for the director and producer, film poster, etc.) are mandatory and non-waivable requirements for the submission of a work.

* The Festival Director, with the guidance of the production and curatorial team of the 10th FICCA Kunta Kinte, reserves the right to accept, select, or invite the films that will participate in the festival.

* We commit to promoting attendance and participation in the film sessions through our communication and marketing strategy. Likewise, we aim to promote networking, connections, and exchanges among interested parties.

* The communications strategy includes the use of photographs, synopses, and trailers for the promotion of the film within the festival.
