Atalaya is an international festival that aims to give a voice to films that deal with issues as important as social justice and Human Rights, covering topics such as inequality in all its forms, democratic memory, poverty, solidarity, education, health and well-being, peace, sustainability, and more.
It takes place in the autumn in the town of Casariche, located east of the province of Seville.
Cash Prizes: 1,500€
● Jury Award for Best Short Film on Social Justice and Human Rights: €1,000 and a statuette.
● Special Audience Award: Gift and a statuette.
● Special Award for Best Short Film of the Sierra Sur of Seville: €500 and a statuette.

RULES OF THE 1ST SOCIAL JUSTICE AND HUMAN RIGHTS SHORT FILM FESTIVAL “ATALAYA”

The Culture Department of the Honorable Casariche City Council announces the 1st International Social Justice and Human Rights Short Film Festival 2025, to be held on December 5, 6, and 7, 2025.
The contest rules are as follows:
Individual or collective filmmakers who wish to participate may do so.
− If it has spoken audio, it will be in Spanish or have subtitles in that language. It is mandatory to subtitle the short film in Spanish if it is spoken in a language other than Spanish. subtitles must be embedded in the short film.
− The running time must not exceed 30 minutes, including credits.
Works completed before January 1, 2022, will not be accepted for the competition.
− To participate in the Festival, it is mandatory to send the short film by mail or courier on DVD or USB drive, or to register and submit it online via the website www.festhome.com. The submission period for short films will run from October 17 to November 9, 2025. Short films that only compete in the Sierra Sur Sevillana Best Short Film Award category may be submitted until November 16, 2025.

- If you send the short film on DVD or USB drive by mail or courier, please include the completed entry form (it is important that the authors’ contact information is clearly visible), a photocopy of the producer’s or director’s ID card, and the technical specifications of the short film. You can find this entry form on the Festival’s official website at atalayafest.casariche.es, under the “Inscripciones” (Entries) section, and within that section by clicking the “Ficha de inscripción para el envío por correo postal o agencia de transporte del DVD o Pendrive del Cortometraje” (Entry Form for Sending the Short Film DVD or USB Drive by Postal Mail or Transport Agency) button. MUY IMPORTANTE: para usar esta modalidad de inscripción es obligatorio, dentro de los plazos de establecidos de inscripción, enviar a la organización un email a atalayafest@casariche.es con los datos del cortometraje enviado y se deberá adjuntar copia escaneada del resguardo de envío. The organization will confirm receipt of the submission by email.
- Each short film will be registered in the name of the natural persons listed in the registration form, who will be the beneficiaries of any prize that may be awarded. The organization presumes that the person in question holds the rights to the submitted work; in any case, the organization disclaims any liability that may arise from a participant’s violation of this provision.
- The submission period begins on October 17 and ends on November 9, 2025. For submissions by mail or courier, the postmark, shipping receipt, or the date of submission on www.festhome.com will be considered the submission date. These expenses are the responsibility of the contestants. The organization assumes no responsibility for any damage or defects they may sustain, although it will take the necessary measures to protect them.
- The organization reserves the right to reject a work due to its poor quality.
- Only short films, both documentary and fiction, that address social issues in their plots—reflecting on any individual or collective matter such as inequality in all its forms, democratic memory, poverty, solidarity, education, health and well-being, peace, sustainability, etc.—will be accepted.
- With regard to the competition, an official judging panel will be appointed to award the prizes, comprising professionals in video, television, music, the arts, and communications.
They may declare any prize void and decide on any matter not covered by the rules.
- The audience attending the screenings will choose the Audience Award from among the works screened on December 5 and 6, 2025.
- The following awards are established:
● Jury Prize for Best Social Justice and Human Rights Short Film: €1,000 and a statuette.
● Special Audience Award: Gift and a statuette.
● Special Award for Best Short Film from the Sierra Sur Sevillana: €500 and a statuette.
- The prizes will be subject to any applicable tax withholdings as required by law.
- The jury may declare any of the prizes void.
- The authors of the winning entries or a representative

All amateur short films whose actors, producers, or directors were born or live in the Sierra Sur of Seville (Aguadulce, Algámitas, Badolatosa, Casariche, El Rubio, El Saucejo, Estepa, Gilena, Herrera, La Roda de Andalucía, Lantejuela, Lora de Estepa, Los Corrales, Marinaleda, Martín de la Jara, Osuna, Pedrera, Pruna y Villanueva de San Juan) may compete for the Best Short Film Award of the Sierra Sur of Seville.
