The Ninth Afro Kunta Kinte International Community Film Festival will take place from September 3 to September 7, 2025, in Medellín, Colombia, under the theme “Ways of Inhabiting the Territories.” Please note that each submission will be reviewed by our curation team; the submission period is open from June 10 to August 2, 2025.

We invite filmmakers to submit their films, documentaries, and short films that explore aspects of the African diaspora, such as the history of slavery, global Afro-descendant culture, the civil rights struggle, migration experiences, and the influence of African heritage on diverse cultural expressions. Through cinema, we aim to rescue and highlight the stories of resistance, resilience, and creativity that have shaped the Afro-descendant experience.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS – 9th AFRO KUNTA KINTE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY FILM FESTIVAL – FICCA KUNTA KINTE 2025

Our 9th FICCA Kunta Kinte will be held from September 3 to September 7, 2025, offering five days of Afro cinema and audiovisual content free of charge and in person. The program will be diverse, covering all ages and topics, with the goal of bringing an audiovisual culture with identity to the entire population. The festival will incorporate digital tools and strengthen cultural and academic offerings, primarily for the Afro-descendant population in Colombia.

By innovating and bringing digital technology closer to audiences, the event will promote interaction among Afro-descendant filmmakers, photographers, producers, and artists with the public. Our festival is guided by a policy and philosophy of showcasing, promoting, and cultivating the film and audiovisual work of Afro-descendant creators. The 9th FICCA Kunta Kinte, conceived and developed to take place during the first week of September, will focus on the theme: “Ways of Inhabiting the Territories.”

It is important to inform participating productions that the festival format includes screenings, panel discussions, and training activities, all conducted in person. Furthermore, the festival will guarantee freedom of projection, enabling wide dissemination and visibility of the submitted works. 1. Screenings of short films, feature films, and movies will take place in person at various venues in Medellín and possibly in other locations across Colombia.

6. Productions completed between January 1, 2020, and the closing date of this call will be accepted.
