The jury will be in charge of viewing, evaluating and choosing from among the selected works, those that will be nominated for best work (Dunas de Liencres Award), and for each of the specialities (Costa Quebrada Award). This jury will also decide which works will receive the Dunas de Liencres awards.
The Costa Quebrada awards will be decided by specialised juries (individual professionals or representatives of professional associations or unions or other groups).
The festival organisers may invite a relevant professional from the world of national cinematography (director, producer, actress, actor...) to form part of the official jury and to preside over it.
The jury, in agreement with the festival's organising team, may propose to award a prize to an actor or actress who stands out from the crop of films selected for this year's festival.
The president of the jury will have a casting vote in the event of a tie or any doubt in the final decision.

On 8 September 2024, it was made public that the area known as Costa Quebrada, which covers eight municipalities in Cantabria-Spain (Camargo, Miengo, Piélagos, Polanco, Santa Cruz de Bezana, Santander, Santillana del Mar and Suances), has been considered eligible for recognition as a UNESCO GEOPARK.
With the aim of making this worldwide recognition visible at national and international level, and within the framework of the next Piélagos Film Festival (scheduled for May 2025), the Piélagos Town Council, together with the Government of Cantabria, proposes the creation of an award named after this unique environment: UNESCO GEOPARQUE COSTA QUEBRADA.
This call will benefit from the projection and prestige inherent to the ‘UNESCO’ brand, which represents a social attraction that will directly benefit Piélagos and the entire Autonomous Community of Cantabria.
RULES
The works competing for this award must comply with the following conditions:
- Short films of a maximum of 30 minutes, both fiction and documentary, will be accepted.
- They must include at least one of the following elements, treating and recognising them as the main characters of the film:
a) The landscape of the GEOPark
b) The cultural and/or ethnographic traditions existing in its surroundings
c) The forms of local economic production that take place in the GEOPARK environment.
- The scripts, in the development of their stories, will include and develop scenes set in locations and scenarios located in the UNESCO GEOPARK, or which are linked to them.
- Deadline for submission: from 1 November to 30 March.
- The jury will be made up of members of the Piélagos International Film Festival, as well as a representative appointed by the management or the Governance Committee of the Costa Quebrada Geopark.
Festhome holds accountable fees festivals by holding the payment of the fees of most newer festivals until they have viewed the submissions, held their festivals and other methods.
