Short Cut is a short film festival dedicated to young filmmakers aged 10 to 21. The event celebrates the creativity and unique perspective of the new generation of storytellers.
For its fourth edition, the festival returns with the theme “Have a Great Weekend”, giving participants complete freedom to interpret and create around this idea.
The selected films will be screened on the big screen at Le Concorde Cinema in La Roche-sur-Yon, offering young talents the chance to see their work shown in a real movie theater.
Short Cut is a unique opportunity for the filmmakers of tomorrow to express themselves, create freely, and share their vision of the world through cinema.
COMPETITION RULES
The association "Ripardière Productions", committed to promoting filmmaking in its region, is organizing an amateur film festival aimed at young people aged 10 to 21.
Objectives
– To encourage young people to make amateur films by awarding prizes within the framework of a competition and by screening their work publicly on the big screen.
– To promote the screening of films in a movie theater.
– To foster meetings between amateur filmmakers and the public.
Article 1 – Eligibility
The competition is open to young amateur filmmakers (individuals or groups creating films outside commercial circuits and without CNC approval), within the following two age categories:
• 10 to 15 years old
• 16 to 21 years old
Article 2 – Admission Requirements for the Competition
– The festival is open to films of all genres (fiction, reportage, documentary, animation, etc.) as long as they respect the theme of the edition.
– The theme is defined each year by the organizing committee. It must not be anecdotal; it should be central to the film’s concept.
– The film must not exceed 6 minutes in length (including credits).
– The filmmaker must ensure that they own all audio and visual rights (original or royalty-free music and images) and be able to provide proof upon request.
– Films must be submitted in H264 – MP4 format.
– Films must be sent via Festhome.
.
Ripardière Productions is available for further information regarding admission criteria but reserves the right to refuse any film that does not meet the stated conditions.
Article 3 – awards
The competition includes four prizes per age category:
Ages 10–15
– Jury Prize
– Best Screenplay
– Best Direction
– Audience Award
Ages 16–21
– Jury Prize
– Best Screenplay
– Best Direction
– Audience Award
A filmmaker or team may submit several films.
However, a single film cannot receive multiple awards.
Each prize will be awarded to the filmmaker or filmmaking team collectively if the production was made within a school, extracurricular, or association setting.
The jury may also decide to award additional special prizes.
Article 4 – Registration
To validate registration, the registration form must be included when sending the film via Festhome.
Once a film is submitted, it will be viewed by the festival organizers to ensure it complies with the rules. The organization will also check the registration form and send a confirmation email acknowledging receipt of the film (this may take several days).
The submission deadline will appear on the registration form.
If the organizers determine that the film does not comply with the rules or has technical issues, they may either exclude it from the festival or invite the filmmaker (via the contact email) to resend a new version. The filmmaker or team will have one week from the email date to send the corrected version, regardless of the original submission date.
Once a film is validated, no further modifications will be accepted, including the information on the registration form. These details will be used as-is on all communication materials (website, press, social media, promotional items, etc.).
Article 5 – Age
To ensure fairness, the organization will assign each film to a category based on the age of the director (or the oldest member of the team).
The age considered will be that of the director on the date of submission.
Article 6 – Jury
A jury, whose members will be chosen by the festival’s organizing committee, will view the films and designate the winners.
The list of jury members will be announced prior to the festival.
Article 7 – Selection
To be selected, a film must be suitable for all audiences and contain no scenes that may harm young viewers.
The jury reserves the right to refuse any film that does not align with the values and spirit of the festival, in which case the filmmaker will be notified promptly.
If more than 20 films are submitted, the organizing committee will make a preselection to retain only 20 films to be judged by the jury. Filmmakers will be informed if their film is preselected. Only these films will be eligible for jury awards, but all submitted films meeting the admission criteria will remain eligible for the Audience Award.
Article 8 – Copyright, Author’s Rights, and Distribution
The author retains full intellectual property of their film but authorizes the festival and its public partners to use the film and its images for educational or promotional purposes:
– Each film may be broadcast, in part or in full, on any media or network, without compensation or time limit.
– During the award ceremony, submitted films will be viewable in full on the festival’s dedicated website for promotional purposes.
– Films may be screened for cultural, scientific, or educational purposes.
– Films may also be proposed for theatrical screenings.
– Filmmakers may freely mention any awards received in their own communications.
Article 9 – Award Ceremony and Screenings
The award ceremony and film screenings will take place during an evening event at a venue partnered with the festival’s organizing committee.
The organization does not cover travel or accommodation costs for participants.
As the cinema venue has limited seating, it is the responsibility of each team to reserve their seats. Even awarded teams will not be guaranteed entry if the venue is full and no reservation was made.
Article 10 – Personal Data
Information provided by participants may be used for festival-related purposes.
In accordance with European data protection laws (including the EU regulation effective May 25, 2018), participants have the right to access, modify, or delete their personal data.
No provided information will be sold or used for commercial purposes.
Article 11 – Exceptions and Disputes
The organizing committee alone has the authority to resolve any matters not covered by these rules and to grant exceptions.
Participation in the festival implies full acceptance of these rules without reservation.
Any dispute concerning their interpretation or application will be submitted to the competent courts.
Article 12 – Cancellation
The organizing committee reserves the right to cancel or postpone the festival in the event of a major issue beyond its control.
