UMOREA LAB

RULES FOR PARTICIPATION – SHORT FILM PROJECTS**

UMOREA LAB is a short film laboratory and forum organized by the Lanbarri Association within the framework of the Arrigorriaga Short Film Festival “Humor en Corto”.

The laboratory is made possible thanks to the financial support of the Arrigorriaga City Council, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, and the Department of Culture of the Basque Government, and with the collaboration of OFF ESCAC, Toboggan Group, Music Library & SFX, and YAQ – Distribuidora.

The purpose of the laboratory is to identify comedy short film projects in an advanced stage of pre-production, with a consolidated team, and in search of further development and financing. Submitting a production calendar—including dates for grant applications, possible shooting dates, and expected finalization dates—will be highly valued.

Selected short films must deliver a public project presentation (pitching) before a jury and invited production companies (potential co-producers). The forum will take place in Arrigorriaga on December 19, and in-person attendance is mandatory.

Projects wishing to participate in the forum must meet the following requirements:

Projects must be submitted by a team composed of a screenwriter, director, and producer.

Only comedy-themed short films will be accepted.

Short films in any official language of the Spanish state will be accepted.

The required documentation is as follows:

Script

Director’s statement (maximum 1 page)

Producer’s statement (maximum 1 page)

Detailed budget

All documents must be submitted in Spanish or Basque.

The deadline for registration is December 8, 2025.

A committee of professionals appointed by the organization will select up to 5 projects. Spots will be reserved for projects produced in Basque and for projects in which the majority of team members are women. One or more projects may be submitted per person, but only one may be selected.

Each project will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

Alignment with the comedy genre

Originality and quality of the script

Artistic value of the project

Real production potential of the short film

Once the projects are selected, all chosen participants will be notified. Travel expenses from anywhere in Spain and accommodation for one team member will be covered.

Participating projects will be eligible for the following awards:

Toboggan Award: valued at €4,000 in film equipment and production facilities

Music Library & SFX Award: access to the company’s libraries and advisory services

YAQ Distribution Award: 6 months of free distribution (fees not included)

Three “Connections” awards for participation in the following markets: ICOFF (Vitoria-Gasteiz), Skyline Benidorm Film Festival (Benidorm), and Abycine LANZA Zona Corto (Albacete)*

*Subject to the conditions of each forum and market.

The winning projects will be selected by a jury appointed by the organization, composed of professionals from various areas of the audiovisual sector.

All awarded short films commit to including the Umorea Lab logo in the opening credits of the final copy of their film.

Participation in Umorea Lab implies acceptance of these rules. The organization reserves the right to decide on any organizational aspects not explicitly covered in these rules.
