XIV SHORT FILM FESTIVAL – JAÉN PROVINCIAL COUNCIL AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

1. Purpose and Internal Procedures:
Gender violence is a structural phenomenon that manifests itself as the most extreme expression of inequality, discrimination, and power imbalances between men and women. Its main objective is to act against the aggression suffered by women simply for being women, considering it an attack on human rights, dignity, and physical and moral integrity.

To achieve real social change, it is essential to recognize and combat all its serious manifestations.

Raising awareness in society in general, and among young people in particular, about the existence and severity of these crimes is the first pillar for building a culture of zero tolerance. Only through education, reporting, and collective action can we eradicate this violence and guarantee a safe, just, and equal life for all women and girls.
The objectives of the submissions will be to raise awareness and highlight the situation of violence against women in any of its forms. It is necessary to bring this serious public health problem from the private sphere into the public debate and achieve real social transformation. Documentaries and short films, both real and narrative fiction, of Spanish origin and of any genre, are eligible for submission.

The awards will require approval of the competition rules by the Deputy for Equality, Social Policies, and Youth, or their designee. An extract of the rules must be published in the National Database of Subsidies, and the full text must be published on the Corporation's notice board and in the Official Gazette of the Province.

2. Participants and Categories:
All production companies and directors who exercise due legal control over the works they submit are eligible to participate.

1) Submissions may be made individually or as a group. Works eligible for any award must have been filmed after 2024. Article 11.3 of the General Subsidies Law will apply in the case of participation by groups of individuals or legal entities, public or private without legal personality, and the commitments undertaken by each member of the group must be expressly stated in the application.

2) Submitted works may not exceed 30 minutes in length.

3) Works must be submitted in their original language. If the language is not Spanish, Spanish subtitles must be provided.

4) Participants under 18 years of age at the time of the submission deadline for this call for entries must provide permission from their mother, father, or guardian (Annex III). Those who are members of the jury or those who collaborate with it, as well as their relatives up to the second degree of consanguinity or affinity, or any person with a legal incompatibility, are not eligible to participate in the Award.

Participants will be solely responsible for any infringement of the rights protected by Royal Legislative Decree 1/1996, of April 12, which approves the consolidated text of the Intellectual Property Law.

3. Submission of Works and deadlines:

To participate in the Festival, interested parties must register on FESTHOME (specific platform for registering for film and/or short film festivals that act as a service for submitting short and feature films via the internet). The completed works and the required documentation, listed below, must be submitted through one of these platforms.

Without using one of these platforms, it will not be possible to process your application for participation.

The deadline for submitting entries will be from the day after the publication of the summary of these rules in the Official Gazette of the Province of Jaén (BOP) until September 16, 2026, inclusive.

The submission of entries must be accompanied by the following documentation:
