Descubierto Film Festival emerges as a meeting place between spectators and audiovisual creators of the fantasy genre.
The competitive selection of short films will be interested in bringing together works with fantasy themes with risky visual languages and innovative proposals. On the other hand, there will be a regional film show where the filmography of local authors will be exhibited. In this way, we seek to be a window for stories told from different perspectives.
Additionally, the Festival will organize parallel activities aimed at complementing the cultural programming.

Dear students, filmmakers, and cinema lovers,
We are thrilled to announce the fourteenth edition of FICU LANTERNA!
This year marks the beginning of a journey that goes beyond the mere projection of images; we want to dive even deeper, exploring what lies beyond the screen.
This year's theme, *Beyond the Screen*, aims to focus on the emotions, sensations, and connections that cinema evokes, also highlighting the aspects of film projections that we often fail to see. We want to demonstrate that cinema is not just about the visual; it is a true experience that transcends the limits of the screen.
Cinema is an art that can reach both the mind and heart of people, placing importance not only on what can be seen, but also on what can be felt.
Cinema is a universal language that communicates with everyone, regardless of cultural, linguistic, or social barriers. It is such a powerful medium that through it, we can explore the complexity of the human being in all its wonder, and with this edition, we aim to celebrate its power to go beyond the surface and explore human emotions.
We invite you to participate in this edition of the festival, share your vision, and be part of an event that continues to transform the way we experience cinema.
With deep gratitude and excitement, we await you at FICU LANTERNA 2024, to discover together what lies beyond the screen.
Best wishes,
Carlotta de Pompeis

The Wayuu Film and Video Show was born in 2008 as an initiative of young filmmakers worried about not having spaces for dissemination and exhibition of their work in La Guajira.
Alliances are quickly made between the Wayuu Women's Force Organization and the Jain Wain’juin Audiovisual Foundation (Venezuela).
The young filmmakers David Hernández Palmar, Miguel Iván Ramírez and Leiqui Uriana, with great interest and enthusiasm, show their first cycle of Wayuu cinema on the improvised screens of a wall of the town of Uribia, beginning the Wayuu Culture Festival First cycle of the Wayuu Film and Video Exhibition. Thus, this space was born to promote an exchange where communities, spectators and the general public could contribute critically to the achievements, as well as helping to recognize in us as Wayuu the possibility of telling our own stories.
Founded in 2001, WOW Wales One World Film Festival has long been the only UK festival dedicated principally to films from Africa, Asia, and Latin America, while also holding the status of the longest-running festival in Wales.
For 23 years, the IMDb-qualifying festival has brought a wide range of the very best international films to cinemas across Wales. Its annual programme of feature, documentary, and short films showcases thought provoking, eye-opening films from places you rarely get to see on screen.
With attending filmmakers such as Patricio Guzmán, Helen Iles, Ken Loach, Mark Cousins, and more, WOW has also established itself as the longest running film festival in Wales.
Taking place every year in March, WOW brings the best of Welsh or UK premieres of international cinema in Aberystwyth Arts Centre and other cinemas across Wales.
International and feminist, the festival champions diversity, equality and the inclusion of voices outside of the mainstream. Every year at least half of the programme’s films are made by female filmmakers, and, since 2023, WOW's team is 100% female-led and diverse.
WOW Wales One World Film Festival, in collaboration with environmental advocates and filmmakers, proudly presents our commitment to driving measurable environmental change and fostering climate literacy among future generations.
In 2021, we revamped our 'Green Screen' initiative, evolving it into the dynamic 'Ecosinema' strand. This transformation was marked by our inaugural Ecosinema mini-festival online, setting a new standard for eco-themed storytelling within our festival.
Keeping Ecosinema as a film strand in the festival, WOW continues to showcase eco-themed films in cinemas and often collaborates with organisations such as The Landworkers Alliance and the 'Creating Safer Space' project to deliver special screenings, Q&As and panel discussions to its audiences.

Despite the festival's relatively small size, there are each year many gems to be found among the many short and feature films in the programme. Furthermore, many filmmakers and actors are traditionally present - and a lot of productive networking takes place.
OUR CURATION: ARTISTICALLY-DRIVEN FILMS, INSPIRING STORIES
Film is a unique medium, and NRFF’s mission is to support and champion inspiring, independent artists and storytellers. This includes experimental work, emotional drama, music, dance, and emerging talent (see below).
Our festival is built around ARTISTS and their STORIES. By doing so, we aim to establish an international COMMUNITY of inspiring storytellers. We are not interested in following current fashions or being politically divisive. We seek out stories that are genuinely imaginative, emotional and life-affirming. At the heart of what we do is our passion to tell great stories.
Curating a festival is never easy but we strive to put together a great programme each year in an environment that is warm, inclusive and truly dignified. You can visit last year's programme online at ww.nrff.co.uk to get a feel for the quality of curation we are known for.
