Festival start: 28 August 2025      Festival end: 06 September 2025

The Roman road VIA XIV has crossed the Monterrey Valley for 2,000 years. Today the roads and railways, some of them built on the old Roman roads, and others that run parallel and a short distance away, give us an idea of its importance and validity.

During all this time they have been a path of new ideas, progress and culture. The Verin short film festival wants to continue this path of culture, bringing the gaze of creators from all over the world around carnival, emigration and the border.

Date: August 28th to September 6th, 2025.

Place: Municipal Auditorium and Assembly Hall of the Casa da Cultura de Verín

Cash Prizes: 2,850€

Jury Prize for Best Short Film in the Official A RAIA Category: €1,000 and Trophy.

Jury Prize for Best Short Film in the Official NOVA Category: €1,000 and Trophy.

Audience Award for Best Short Film: €600 and Trophy.

Youth Jury Prize: Non-monetary award.

Short films submitted to the competition must have been made after January 2024.

Participation in the competition is open, and anyone, whether amateur or professional, of any nationality can participate.

Films competing will be valued for being Galician, Spanish, or international premieres. Priority will especially be given to works not previously released in Galicia for the A Raia category. The intention to premiere must be indicated during registration in the comments section.

Special consideration will be given to works that reflect innovative perspectives and a commitment to cultural, gender, or social diversity.

Films under 30 minutes in length from any genre will be accepted. The organization will decide in which category each film will be placed and will notify the authors before finalizing the program.

Each author may register up to three works in the same edition of the festival.

If awarded one of the prizes granted by the Festival, the winners must include a written reference to said prize at the beginning of all copies of the film distributed for screening in commercial theaters and/or audiovisual events, as well as in all informational material. This reference must consist of a text with the type of prize awarded, invariably accompanied by the corporate image (logo and name) of the Verín VIA XIV International Festival, which will be provided by the organization.

Works previously submitted to FIC Vía XIV will not be selected.

Advertising and/or commercial videos are excluded.

The registration fee for a short film at the FIC Vía XIV will be three euros for the standard deadline, four euros for the late deadline, and five euros for the extended deadline.

I. Payment will be made through the Festhome platform or PayPal. Registration will only be effective once the fee has been paid.

II. For preselection, works must be uploaded in the following format:

- MPEG4 AVC (H264 codec).
- Maximum bit transfer rate: 3000 kbps.
- Audio: AAC.
- Embedded subtitles.
- Minimum resolution: 720 x 480p.

Selected films must include subtitles in Spanish, Galician, or English.

All short films must have the following projection format:

- AVI, MOV, MP4, or MPEG (H264 codec)
- Maximum bitrate: 8000 kbps
- Audio: Stereo AAC.
- Resolution: 720 x 576 or higher.
- Subtitles: Shorts that do not have the original language in Spanish or Galician must be sent with subtitles embedded in the image in Galician or Spanish. Otherwise, an accompanying subtitle file in English, preferably in .srt format, must be submitted.

The festival reserves the right to modify the format or reject any short film – after prior notice – that does not meet the technical and projection requirements expressed in the rules or the minimum required projection quality.

Similarly, any short film that requires specific technical and projection needs (Betacam, S-8, S-16, etc.) will be evaluated and authorized by the Festival's organization.

If a short film is selected, its legal representative must send three images, a trailer of the work, a synopsis, a technical sheet, and any other material the organization deems appropriate for use in the Festival's publications, on any media used. They must also authorize the use of the trailer for the promotion of the Festival and the works themselves.

The festival will only contact the representatives of the selected films. The screening schedule for each short film, as well as parallel activities, will be announced before the start of the festival on our website and social media.

Although the festival will not pay screening fees, the selected films will receive promotion on social networks and publications associated with the event.

The selected works will be screened as part of the program for the IX Edition of the Vía XIV Short Film Festival in Verín, which will take place between August 28 and September 6, 2025.

FIC Vía XIV of Verín will accept works in two thematic categories:

The following prizes are established:

Jury Prize for Best Short Film in the Official A RAIA Category: €1,000 and Trophy.
Jury Prize for Best Short Film in the Official NOVA Category: €1,000 and Trophy.
Audience Award for Best Short Film: €600 and Trophy.
Youth Jury Prize: Non-monetary prize.

In the event of winning, the organization will contact the representatives of the short films via email.

Documentation necessary to claim the prize: receipt and proof of tax residence or a similar document. Deadline for submission of documentation: 30 days. If not received, the organization reserves the right to withhold payment of the prize.

Required documentation:

Payment receipt
- Document provided by the festival
- Tax residence certificate (if the short film is not Spanish)

In the case of a tie between two shorts (ex aequo), the prize will be divided among the winners. The monetary value of the prizes is subject to withholding as determined by Spanish tax legislation in force at the time of payment and will, in any case, be understood to be included in the monetary allocation of such prizes.

Prizes are subject to the withholdings in effect in each country under law at the time of the Festival, starting in September 2025.

The physical trophy will only be awarded if a team member attends the final gala to collect the prize in person. If not, those interested in having it sent (postal shipping) must expressly communicate this.

The legal representative of the short film agrees to present works with original content and corresponding rights. The organization is not responsible for subsequent issues in this regard.

Award-winning works may be screened in full after the event, as part of a promotional circuit for the Verín VIA XIV Short Film Festival, as well as in external cycles, always designating the legal representative. These actions will not have a profit motive, and the organization will contact each selected short film team beforehand to inform them about the specific activity.

The official jury will be composed of professionals from the audiovisual field. The jury may establish as many special mentions, consolation prizes, and ex-aequo prizes as it deems fit, as well as declare the prizes void. Its decision will be final.

The Youth Jury will be made up of individuals under 30 years old linked to the cultural or audiovisual sector. They may establish as many special mentions, consolation prizes, and ex-aequo prizes as they deem fit, as well as declare the prizes void. Their decision will be final.

For the Audience Award, voting will be done via ballot, which will be handed out to attendees at each session. The work with the highest average score will be the winner.

The individual or legal entity formalizing the registration of a work in FIC Vía XIV irrevocably accepts the Festival's rules.

The management team reserves the right to modify or expand the participation rules, making them public before the start of the Festival.

In case of unforeseen conflict or breach of these rules, the Festival management retains its sovereignty and reserves the power of final decision.

Festhome holds accountable fees festivals by holding the payment of the fees of most newer festivals until they have viewed the submissions, held their festivals and other methods.
