XOCIVIGA (42) is the oldest festival in Galicia. On the occasion of its 40th edition (2024), the new management, led by a group of young people, decided to restart the event with a new image and transform it into an international short film festival.

XOCIVIGA EDITION 42 (2026)

RULES OF THE AUDIOVISUAL PIECES COMPETITION

Xociviga - International Short Film Festival opens the deadline for accepting audiovisual pieces to participate in the 42nd edition of the festival, which will take place between November 25 and 29, 2026.

1. The following competitive categories are established:

Official Section: Open to the participation of fiction, non-fiction* or experimental short films from anywhere in the world. Those shorts whose authors are of Galician origin and whose main language is Galician will be eligible for the award for best Galician short.

New Creators Section: Open to the participation of Spanish fiction, non-fiction* or experimental short films whose authors are not older than 30 years.

Children's Section: Open to short films from all over the world -silent or made or dubbed in Spanish or Galician- aimed at an audience between 8 and 12 years old, which will be screened in collaboration with primary education centers in O Carballiño and the surrounding area.

online Music Videos Section: Open to the participation of music videos by Galician artists of any musical genre in order to be broadcast for the competition through our website and/or social media.

*Journalistic reports are not accepted.

The works entered must have been produced between 2025 and 2026.


2. €3,500 in cash prizes plus €1,000 in discount on film equipment rental with RCService will be distributed as follows:

Best Short Film - Official Section: Awarded €1,500

Best Galician Short Film: Awarded €500 + €500 discount on equipment rental with RCService

Best Young Short Film: Awarded €500

Best Young Director of Photography: Awarded €500 discount on equipment rental with RCService.

Best Short Film - Audience Award: €500

Best Animated Short Film - Children's Audience Award: €200

Best Music Video: €300


3. The duration of each short film will not exceed 30 minutes, with credits included. Works created wholly or partially using AI are not accepted.


4. The deadline for sending works will be September 1, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.

Registration will be made through the FESTHOME
platform.

5. For registration and viewing, pieces whose languages ​​are not Galician or Spanish must be subtitled in one of these languages ​​or in english.
Works with subtitles embedded in another language will not be accepted.


6. The work's registration must clearly specify who the legal representative of the work is.

In the event of being awarded a financial prize, the legal representative will be the one who will receive the corresponding amount of money.

Likewise, the author or legal representative of the short film undertakes to present works where the images and music are original or, where applicable, have the necessary permission to use them, which they must provide if the organization so requires.

Any payment made to the legal representative designated on the registration form will release the Organization from liability if it were to make the payment to another person.

The designated legal representative is responsible for complying with these rules and the regulations that apply to their activity.


7. The organization reserves the right to use up to 10% of the running time of each selected piece for promotional use of the festival and the works themselves.

Participation in the Festival implies granting promotional media (television, radio, etc.) that request it the right to broadcast extracts of the works (with a maximum of 10% of the same). This clause also applies to media whose dissemination platform is the Internet as well as to the festival's own social networks.


8. The selected works will be exhibited in their entirety during the Festival at the corresponding section times indicated in the official programming schedule.

Acceptance of these rules entails the assignment of a non-exclusive right of distribution, reproduction and public communication for one screening (or two in the event that the work wins an award), without any other use or assignment of any other right.


9. The following juries are established:

Professional jury: made up of professionals from the audiovisual sector. It will be responsible for choosing the official section awards.

New Jury: formed by students of Audiovisual Communication (from the universities of Vigo, Santiago and A Coruña), of Professional Training related to the audiovisual sector (image and sound, production, etc.) or of some other artistic degree.
Will be in charge of deciding the New Creators award.

Public Jury: Formed by the global group of viewers who attend the different sessions.

online Public Jury: Formed by all those viewers who access our website to choose their favorite music video.


10. The prizes may be left empty if any of the jurors so decides and in the event that an ex-aequo prize is awarded, the prize money would be divided 50%.

The jurors may establish the special mentions they deem appropriate.


11. The Organization assumes that the participants are the owners of the rights to the works they present. In any case, the Organization is not responsible for any possible infringements arising from this aspect.


12. The winning pieces will be screened on the last day of the festival. In the event that this is not the case due to problems external to the Organization, the festival organization does not undertake to establish a new date for the public screening of the same.


13. The Organization reserves the right to cancel any registration or take the measures it deems appropriate in the event of a violation of the regulations.


14. If, in the interval between the selection process of works and the dates of the festival, any producer or director has an express conviction for any crime classified as gender violence*, they will automatically be excluded by the organization.

The Association reserves the right to apply this same basis to those convicted by final judgment for any other crime.


15. The Organization reserves the right at any time to alter, modify or suspend the program of the 42nd Edition of Xociviga.


16. Participation in this call implies acceptance of these bases.
