The Roman road VIA XIV has crossed the Monterrey Valley for 2,000 years. Today the roads and railways, some of them built on the old Roman roads, and others that run parallel and a short distance away, give us an idea of its importance and validity.
During all this time they have been a path of new ideas, progress and culture. The Verin short film festival wants to continue this path of culture, bringing the gaze of creators from all over the world around carnival, emigration and the border.

18. The FIC Vía XIV of Verín will accept works in three thematic categories:
HORIZONS. Category that will affect the idea of the horizon as an imaginary and invisible line, distant and unattainable, of great emotional and symbolic violence as a metaphor for migration. On the other hand, the horizon as a line that separates here from there, as a kind of border between the place where we are and any other place.
Recent studies warn that, currently, the planetary limit of environmental contamination and overexploitation of natural resources has already been exceeded, causing irreversible damage to living beings and ecosystems on our planet.
In its VIII edition, the FIC Vía XIV considers it necessary to make its viewers reflect on what we consider to be the last and most important frontier that humanity faces, the impact of the human being hand in nature and climate change.
TO RAIA. Some of the best films in the world are made from the banks of a small and silent river... Given the uniqueness of our territory, the Támega Valley divided by the Raia, and our history of emigration and border with all its meanings in both shores, this category will host shorts by filmmakers from Galicia and Portugal.
NOT GOING. Short films that have no place in the categorized themes will be selected; It is a general category that will include contemporary films, auteur cinema and works that are not governed by obsolete industrial formats.
CHILD CATEGORY. The theme must be aimed at a child audience (3 to 12 years). Short films of any genre are admitted, taking into account the audience to which it is directed.
Short films that do not meet the criteria established in the contest, that are offensive or discriminatory will be disqualified.
Short films may not exceed 10 minutes of footage. The duration of the credits will not be taken into account for a possible disqualification.
This category will not qualify for the public award.
