The festival was created in 2015 and has the goal to become a space for professional development for filmmakers and amateurs that are looking for a platform to show their films and do some networking.

It has different categories for competition open for high school and university students and international filmmakers. In addition, it has his own Videogame official Selection, where developers can use the festival as a platform to diffuse their games and get motivated to keep making videogames.

El Cecehachero Play Player – International VGS and Film Festival

Invites production companies, filmmakers, and game developers from Mexico and around the world to participate in the 11th edition of El Cecehachero Play Player.

This year, the festival has evolved to embrace new creators, formats, and ways of telling stories through film and video games.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

There are no restrictions regarding the theme or subject matter of the short films and video games submitted.

For short films, applicants must complete the submission form or register their project through Festhome or FilmFreeway. A screener file must be provided for evaluation purposes.

All registered short films must submit a digital Electronic Press Kit (EPK) including the following materials:

Project title
Synopsis
Technical information and credits
Cast
Crew
Photograph of the director

For the Cecehachera category, applicants must also provide a valid student ID or latest academic transcript. Additionally, at least 70% of the crew must be composed of students.

The submission deadline is Friday, August 21, 2026.

Films submitted to the festival that are not spoken in Spanish or English must include subtitles in one of these languages.

REQUIRED MATERIALS IF SELECTED

Film file with a minimum resolution of 1080 × 1920 and an aspect ratio of either 9:16 or 16:9, as applicable.

For films spoken in a language other than Spanish, a Spanish subtitle file in .srt format must be provided.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

Winners of each section and category will receive an official certificate recognizing their achievement.

All winning short films will be screened during the festival’s post-event touring program.

Confirmation of registration will be sent via email.

The decisions of the festival’s programming team and curators regarding the Official Selection are final and cannot be appealed.

The decisions of the jury regarding award winners are final and cannot be appealed.

Selected projects will be announced during the festival’s press conference, on the official website, through social media channels, and by email notification to the responsible parties.

Any submission that fails to comply with the requirements outlined in this call for entries will not be considered.

All selected projects will receive a certificate of participation, while winning projects will receive a winner’s certificate.

No submissions received after the official deadline will be considered.

A jury panel will be appointed for each section and will consist of professionals from the film and gaming industries, as well as national and international academics.

Any matters not covered by these regulations will be resolved by the festival organizers.

If a short film is spoken in English or any language other than Spanish, Spanish subtitles are mandatory in order to be considered for the Official Selection.
