Festival start: 06 January 2027      Festival end: 25 April 2027

IACI, Ibicine Asociación Cinematográfica de Ibiza, and Dicho y hecho Producciones S.L. are organisations dedicated, amongst other things, to organising cultural events, notably IBICINE, the Ibiza Film Festival and its Astarté Awards, an international film festival that runs throughout the year, with its main programme taking place between January and April.

IBICINE was founded with the aim of promoting emerging national, international and Balearic film talent, fostering encounters between new creators and established professionals from the audiovisual industry on the island of Ibiza. The festival places particular emphasis on the short film as a creative format with its own distinct identity, recognising the artistic and technical excellence of these works through the Astarté Awards – a statuette designed and crafted in Ibiza in homage to the Phoenician goddess Astarté, a symbol of the island’s historical and cultural legacy; as well as featuring an Official Feature Film Section and an industry programme that includes the Ibiza Film Campus and the Ibicine ScriptLAB, amongst other activities.
In addition to the International Official Short Film Section (SOC), the festival features the International Official Feature Film Section (SOL), various parallel sections and industry activities, including the Ibiza Film Market, the ScriptLab and professional meetings aimed at fostering project development, specialised training and the creation of new opportunities for collaboration within the audiovisual sector.

IBICINE sees Ibiza as a meeting point for filmmakers, producers, distributors, streaming platforms, institutions, students and the general public, fostering the exchange of knowledge, the creation of professional networks and the international promotion of audiovisual talent.

Over the course of its ten editions, the festival has established a programme characterised by artistic quality, a diversity of perspectives, equal opportunities and a commitment to cinema as a cultural and social tool.

IBICINE has been selected by UNESCO as Spain’s representative festival within the international film tourism routes ‘Movie Travel’; it has received recognition from the Consell d’Eivissa; it was honoured with the Business Excellence Award for Best Film Festival in the Balearic Islands by Acquisition International in 2023 and 2026, and with the Hospitality Award for Festival of the Year by LUXlife magazine in 2024, amongst other national and international accolades.

Since 2022, IBICINE has been included on the official list of partner festivals of the Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and is a qualifying festival for the Goya Awards in the categories of Best Fiction Short Film, Best Documentary Short Film and Best Animated Short Film.

Short films awarded the Astarté Prize for Best Fiction Short Film, Best Documentary Short Film and Best Animated Short Film may qualify for the Goya Awards, provided they meet the requirements set by the Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the current rules for the relevant edition. Furthermore, the winners of these prizes will receive a cash prize from the festival.

Furthermore, from 2023, IBICINE is a qualifying festival for the Forqué Awards in the categories of Best Fiction Short Film, Best Documentary Short Film and Best Animated Short Film, and for the Fugaz Awards in the category of Best Fiction Short Film.
The selection committee is made up of professionals from various specialisms within the audiovisual sector, who assess the submitted works according to criteria of cinematic quality, originality, thematic diversity and technical excellence, as well as the stories’ ability to engage with the audience.

The official jury is made up of Academicians and professionals of recognised standing from various sectors of the national and international film industry, appointed by the festival’s management. Its composition will be announced in the Nominees Announcement for this edition, in February 2027. The jury chair will have the casting vote in the event of a tie.

Since its first edition, IBICINE has enjoyed the support of leading figures from Spanish cinema such as Jon Plazaola, Nadia de Santiago, Kira Miró, Inma Cuevas, Paz Vega, Michelle Calvó, Cayetana Guillén-Cuervo and María Adánez, who have served as festival patrons, as well as Belinda Washington, Eva Soriano and other industry professionals who have supported the festival.
The Astarté Awards of Honour are presented annually to professionals and institutions whose careers have made a significant contribution to the development and promotion of cinema. The decision to award these honours rests solely with the festival’s management. Over the course of this first decade, the award has been presented to: the actress Terele Pávez (posthumously), the director Isabel Coixet, the Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media (CIMA), the actor and director Paco León, the actress Yolanda Ramos, the comedian Eva Soriano, the journalist and film critic Cayetana Guillén-Cuervo, international producer and screenwriter Axel Kuschevatzky, FILMIN co-founder Jaume Ripoll, international actor Leonardo Sbaraglia, actor Javier Gutiérrez, actress Cecilia Suárez, director Carmen Vidal, director Toni Bestard, actress Antonia San Juan, Hollywood journalist Bárbara Gasser, and journalist and presenter Elena Sánchez.

IBICINE is made possible thanks to the support of public institutions, private organisations, sponsoring companies, partners, the media and a large team of professionals who ensure that Ibiza continues to establish itself as a leading centre for cinema and the audiovisual industry both nationally and internationally.

The organisers reserve the right to make any necessary changes to the programme, venues, schedule or activities for organisational, technical or force majeure reasons, whilst always endeavouring to ensure the smooth running of the festival and the fulfilment of its objectives.

The awarding of these honours is the sole prerogative of the Festival Management.

SPECIAL MENTIONS

The jury may award Special Mentions when it considers that a work merits recognition outside the official categories.
These mentions are not mandatory and may vary from one edition to the next.

SPONSORED AWARDS

In addition to the Astarté Awards, the Festival may award prizes sponsored by partner organisations.
The characteristics, conditions and recipients of these prizes will be announced during this year’s edition and may vary depending on the agreements reached with each sponsoring organisation.

PRIZE MONEY

The Astarté Awards for Best Fiction Short Film, Best Documentary Short Film and Best Animated Short Film—which qualify for the Goya Awards—will each carry prize money of €1,000, in accordance with the requirements established by the Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Furthermore, other categories may receive prize money or prizes in kind thanks to the collaboration of the festival’s sponsors.

The amount, conditions of award and, where applicable, the individual or legal entity receiving each prize will be officially announced during the nominations announcement for this edition.

Cash prizes will be subject to current tax legislation and any applicable tax deductions.

In due course, the organisers will request the necessary documentation from the recipients in order to proceed with the payment of the prizes.

Failure to submit this documentation within the specified deadline may be interpreted as a waiver of the corresponding cash prize.

STATUETTE

Each category will feature a single official statuette or Astarté award.

Where a category has several winners, the organisers will present a single statuette representing the award.

Winners wishing to obtain additional replicas may request them from the organisers, bearing the full cost of production and postage, on the dates proposed by the organisers.

Should a statuette not be collected during the Gala, or be left behind in Ibiza, the postage costs shall be borne by the award recipient or organisation.

In the event of loss, the organisers accept no liability. Should you wish to obtain an additional replica, you may request one from the organisers, bearing the full cost of production and postage, on the dates proposed by the organisers.

Statuettes not claimed within three months of being awarded may be recycled by the organisers for use in subsequent editions.

FINAL PROVISION

The organisers reserve the right to introduce new prizes, modify sponsored prizes, create special mentions or update the prize money where organisational circumstances or agreements with collaborating organisations so require, without this affecting the smooth running of the festival.

1. ENTRIES

The call for entries for the 10th edition of the IBICINE Ibiza Film Festival – Astarté Awards is open to national and international short films that comply with these rules.

Submission of a film implies full acceptance of these rules and of any decisions taken by the festival organisers regarding any matter not covered herein.

2. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Short films that meet the following requirements may be entered:

- Maximum duration of 30 minutes, including credits.
- Must have obtained a certificate of Spanish nationality dated between 1 October 2025 and 10 April 2027.

- Films whose original language is not Spanish must be submitted with Spanish subtitles.
- If selected for screening, English subtitles must also be provided, unless expressly authorised otherwise by the organisers.

3. REQUIREMENTS FOR SPANISH SHORT FILMS

Spanish short films wishing to be eligible for the Goya Awards must comply, in addition to these rules, with all the requirements established by the Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the relevant edition.

IBICINE shall not be held responsible for any failure by entered works to comply with these requirements.

Short films that do not meet the requirements set by the Academy may be included in the Festival’s Official Selection, but will not be eligible for the qualifying awards; they may, however, be entered into the other categories organised by IBICINE, provided they comply with these rules.

4. ONLINE PREMIERE

With the aim of promoting cinema screenings, short films that have been publicly available for online viewing prior to their screening as part of IBICINE’s official programme will not be eligible to participate.

The festival management may authorise exceptions in the event of extraordinary circumstances.

5. ENTRY

Each film must be entered in the section that best suits its theme or characteristics.

Should a film be suitable for several sections, it is the responsibility of the entrant to select the one they consider most appropriate.

The organisers may change the assigned section if they consider another to be more suitable for the festival’s programme.

Balearic productions must be entered in the Balearic section, regardless of the short film’s theme, as they may be nominated for Best Balearic Short Film, whilst also participating in the Festival’s Official Selection and all its categories. *‘Balearic productions’ are defined as those involving at least one Balearic production company, or where the director or screenwriter is resident on one of the islands.
All sections form part of the Official Short Film Section.

6. SECTIONS

OFFICIAL INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM SECTION (SOC)

All selected short films take part in the Official Short Film Section (SOC) and compete on equal terms for the relevant Astarté Awards.

With the aim of offering a dynamic programme and fostering interaction between filmmakers, industry professionals and the public, the films will be screened in themed sessions, followed by discussions with guests and specialists related to the theme of each session.

The allocation of each short film to a session will be determined exclusively by the festival organisers based on programming criteria. This classification does not constitute a separate competitive category and does not affect the awards for which each film is eligible.

The themed sessions may cover, amongst others, the following areas:

Comedy and Humour
Science Fiction, Action and Fantasy
Social Issues
Gastronomy
Horror, Fantasy and Thriller
Mental Health and Psychology
Balearic Islands
Romance
Feminism and Motherhood
Historical
Children’s and Family

The organisers may modify, expand, merge or create new themed sessions depending on the entries submitted and/or selected and the programming requirements of each edition.

INTERNATIONAL OFFICIAL FEATURE FILM SECTION (SOL)

The Official Feature Film Section (SOL) is open to national and international feature-length films in the genres of fiction, documentary or animation.

All selected feature films will compete jointly for the relevant Astarté Awards, regardless of their genre or cinematographic technique.

In order to foster communication between the films and the audience, the SOL programme will prioritise works which, due to their subject matter, approach or artistic vision, generate opportunities for dialogue and reflection during the post-screening discussions.

Films must, in general, meet the following requirements:

They must not have had a commercial cinema release in Ibiza
They must not be publicly available on online streaming platforms prior to the festival or the film’s screening.

They may, however, have previously participated in other national or international festivals.

They should preferably be submitted by their distribution company or authorised representative.

At least one member of the film’s technical or creative team must commit to attending the gala, as well as the screening and the subsequent discussion. The distributor’s attendance alone will not be sufficient to meet this requirement.

Have an indicative maximum running time of 90 minutes. The festival management may, in exceptional cases, consider selecting films of greater duration where their artistic or cinematographic merit justifies it.

The final selection shall be the sole responsibility of the festival management and the selection committee.

PARALLEL SECTIONS

IBICINE may organise parallel sections, special screenings, retrospectives, educational activities or non-competitive programmes with the aim of enriching the festival’s programme.

The inclusion of a film in any of these activities shall be at the sole discretion of the organisers.

7. DATES AND ENTRY FEE

Submissions for the Official Short Film Section of the 10th edition of the IBICINE Ibiza Film Festival – Astarté Awards are open from 15 August 2026 to 15 September 2026 (both dates inclusive) via the Festhome platform. Direct link on the festival website: www.ibicine.com

The entry fee per film is €8 (including VAT), with no limit on the number of films entered per person or company.

8. FEE WAIVERS

Distributors, professional associations, film schools and other organisations requesting entry codes must provide documentary evidence of their legal status.

The granting of fee waivers is at the sole discretion of the organisers.

9. MATERIALS

Selected films must provide, within the deadline set by the organisers, the necessary documentation and materials for their proper scheduling, promotion and screening.
Among other things, the following may be requested:

high-quality screening file;
subtitled file;
subtitle file;
poster;
photographs;
trailer;
making-of feature;
synopsis;
technical and creative credits;
biographies;
promotional material.

Failure to submit any of the requested materials within the specified deadline may result in exclusion from the official programme, even if the film had previously been selected or nominated.

10. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

IBICINE will apply the criteria established by the Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence tools in the submitted films.

The organisers may request further information regarding the creative process behind any entry where they deem it necessary.
Concealment, misrepresentation or material inaccuracy regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence may result in the exclusion of the entry.

11. EXCLUSIONS

The following will not be accepted:

advertising montages;
teasers;
television episodes;
series pilots;
excerpts from feature films;
works previously selected by IBICINE;
works entered in more than two previous editions without having been selected.

The festival management may reject any work that does not meet the minimum technical or artistic requirements necessary for its screening.

If a final copy is not available by the registration deadline (15 August to 15 September 2026), the production company/distributor must contact the festival organisers in advance to discuss the possibility of registering a Work In Progress.

12. SELECTION

All submitted works will be assessed by each member of the festival’s selection committee.

The committee’s decisions are final.

The festival management reserves the right to amend the programme for organisational, technical or force majeure reasons.

13. JURY

The jury will be composed of academics and professionals from the national and international film industry, appointed by the festival management.

In the event of a tie, the Chair of the Jury shall cast the deciding vote.

The jury may declare any of the prizes void if it considers that none of the entries meets the required standard.

14. WITHDRAWAL OF ENTRIES

A selected entry may not be freely withdrawn once its selection has been officially announced, unless expressly authorised by the festival management.

IBICINE may withdraw a film from the programme where:

there is a substantiated dispute regarding copyright or intellectual property;
there is a sufficiently substantiated claim by third parties;
documentary falsification is detected;
these rules are breached;
circumstances arise that could seriously damage the image, reputation or proper functioning of the festival.

In the event of a dispute between third parties regarding the ownership of a film, IBICINE may suspend its participation until such a dispute is resolved.

15. AWARDS

The list of awards, categories and prize money is set out in the specific section ‘Awards and Categories’.

16. REPRODUCTION AND SCREENING RIGHTS

Registration authorises IBICINE to use the poster, photographs, synopsis, clips, trailer and other promotional material provided for the promotion of the festival, its activities and future editions, both in the media and on social media, in publications, annual reports, on the website and in promotional materials.

Registration also authorises the public screening of the work as part of the official programme of the edition for which it has been selected.

Any subsequent screening will require the relevant authorisation where legally required.

17. DATA PROTECTION

Individuals, companies and organisations submitting a work guarantee that they hold the necessary rights to submit the work to the festival and authorise the processing of the data provided exclusively for the purposes of managing this call for entries, in accordance with current data protection legislation.

18. INTERPRETATION OF THE RULES

The festival management shall resolve any matter not provided for in these rules.

The interpretation of these rules shall be the sole responsibility of the management of IBICINE.

The organisers reserve the right to amend these rules where there are justified grounds for doing so, and undertake to communicate any amendments via the festival’s official channels.
