Camera, lights and... Málaga! Take part in the 1st “El Centro en Corto” Short Film Competition

Do you have a story to tell, with Málaga as your perfect setting? The Málaga Historic Centre Association invites you to take part in the 1st “El Centro en Corto” Short Film Competition.

This initiative aims to promote audiovisual talent and transform the perception of urban space, inviting creators to turn Málaga’s Historic Centre into a living, dynamic character through their stories.

What you need to know to participate

• Who can apply? Any Málaga-based creator, producer or distributor may take part, as well as residents or students enrolled in higher education institutions in the city (University of Málaga, School Training, etc.).

Applicants must be over 18 years old and hold the rights to the submitted work.

• Theme: The theme is open. However, it is an essential requirement that Málaga’s Historic Centre be a main and recognizable location in the work, integrated organically into the narrative.

• Accepted genres: Fiction, documentary, animation and experimental works are accepted.

• Length: The running time of the work may not exceed 12 minutes, including credits.

• Exclusivity: Only works produced after October 1, 2025 will be accepted. In addition, the works must not have been previously screened in festivals or competitive showcases held in the city of Málaga.

Awards and Recognition

An Official Jury made up of distinguished figures from the worlds of cinema and culture will decide the main awards. In addition, the competition will include an Audience Jury. The categories are:

• First Prize “El Centro en Corto”
• Second Prize “El Centro en Corto”
• Audience Award “El Centro en Corto”: Granted to the short film in the Official Section that receives the most likes on the Instagram profile of the Málaga Historic Centre Association (@centrohistoricomalaga).

All awards include a competition diploma, upload to the organizers’ YouTube channel, and in-person screenings of the works.

Dates and Submission

• Submission period: The submission and material delivery period will be open from March 27 to May 4, until 12:00 a.m. Only one work may be submitted per author.

REGULATORY RULES OF THE 1ST SHORT FILM COMPETITION
“EL CENTRO EN CORTO”

PREAMBLE

The Málaga Historic Centre Association announces the 1st Short Film Competition “EL CENTRO EN CORTO”, an initiative created to celebrate and explore the narrative richness of the heart of Málaga. This competition seeks to promote audiovisual talent and transform the perception of urban space, inviting creators to turn the Historic Centre into a living and dynamic character through their stories.

Article 1. Purpose and Scope

1.1. The purpose of the competition is to promote audiovisual culture and highlight the material and intangible heritage of Málaga’s Historic Centre, as well as to revitalize the identity of this area.

1.2. The competition is provincial in scope.

Article 2. Participants

2.1. Any Málaga-based creator, producer, or distributor may participate, as well as residents or students enrolled in higher education institutions in the city (University of Málaga, School Training, etc.). The author must be over 18 years of age and must hold the rights to the submitted work. The organization reserves the right to request any supporting documentation necessary to verify this requirement.

2.2. Each participant may submit only one work. Works submitted by the same person under different pseudonyms or collective names will not be accepted.

Article 3. Work Requirements

3.1. Theme and Connection: The theme is open. However, it is an essential requirement that Málaga’s Historic Centre, as well as its identity, be a main and recognizable location in the work, integrated organically into the narrative or visual proposal.

3.2. Genre: Fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental works are accepted.

3.3. Length: The running time may not exceed 12 minutes, including credits. No minimum length is established.

3.4. Production date: Only works produced after October 1, 2025 will be accepted.

3.5. Exclusivity: The works must be premieres in festivals and competitive showcases held in the city of Málaga. They will not be considered premieres if they are publicly available on video platforms such as YouTube, public Vimeo, etc.

3.6. Language: The works must be submitted in Spanish, with the possibility of being presented with subtitles in Spanish or English.

Article 4. Format and Submission

4.1. The works must have a minimum resolution of 1920x1080 (Full HD).

4.2. The compression format must be .MP4 (H.264 codec) or .MOV. The screening file will be requested from the selected participants in the highest possible quality. It must include the name of the Competition and the organizers’ logo.

Article 5. Registration and Deadlines

5.1. Registration is free of charge.

5.2. The submission and material delivery period will run from March 27 to May 4 until 12:00 a.m. Only one work may be submitted per author.

5.3. Registration must be completed exclusively through Festhome, in the section
